My take on the Pitt game...

Wasn't sure what thread to put my thoughts in...keep in mind that I haven't watched the broadcast yet and my comments are based on the view from the seats. So, on we go...

  • You can put this loss squarely on the offense.
  • It seemed to me that the defense really played their asses off keeping us in the game when the O couldn't move the ball in the first half.
  • I know the TOP difference is only 3 mins but the guys on D looked dog tired about halfway through the 3rd. I would have guessed that the time of possession differential would have been much greater.
  • Why we didn't do a QB sneak on 4th down I'll never know. Why the fuck we wasted two timeouts trying to get that bs play off, I'll never know either.
  • Why the hell didn't we run the ball more? Again, not a huge imbalance between the run and pass (going by number of plays) but it seemed like we could have run on them all day long.
  • Why the hell does it take Maust so goddamn long to get a punt off?
  • Jimmy still seems to lock on to his primary receiver and never give anyone else a look....results: batted down passes and double covered receivers.
  • Thought the crowd did very well with making noise. Dunno how it was in the south end, but it was much louder than the past few years in the north end.
  • Like other visiting bands, the Pitt band showed a total lack of class by continuing to play while the ND band played the Alma Mater.
Finally...there's really no reason we should have lost this game. This is the first time I'd seen ND lose in person...what a shitty feeling. I was really pretty pissed and wanted badly to punch something.

I don't regret the long trip though and my sister and her family finally got to see a game at ND. She, her husband and 2 kids had a great time. A walked their asses off on Friday and Saturday. Kids had no trouble falling asleep either night. :)

Thanks for the in-house perspective. My dad and sis were at the game as well, and sitting right behind the Pitt band. I hate when bands play over ours (or any home team for that matter). recognize who's house you're in mother f'ers. Enjoy your steep tradition at Ketchup Field. The Condoms are good at that low class move too.

Are you serious? Yes, the D played their asses off, but we dominated both sides of the ball in the first half. Pitt's D played well and forced us to punt a few times, but we won the field position battle. Then, we put 14 points on the board in the second quarter, giving us the 17-3 lead going into halftime. That's not "keeping us in the game," that's what I call a comfortable lead that should've turned into a Irish win by 20 points.

It was in the third quarter where the offense f'ed it up. Our D did sub-par, but they were on the field too much. Pitt took advantage of it, and then it was back and forth til the end.

I agree with u 100% there but the game should have never went in to overtime now dont get me wrong here i am a big notre dame fan but i have not seen them play a full 4 quaters all year if we could do that we should be sitting at only 1 lose right know and that is michigan state!!!! I still believe and I am ready for a bowl win this year and let that take us into next year for a great year. GO IRISH!!!!!

Hell yeah, I'm serious. The D held Pitt to a FG after the blocked punt. Possessions in the 1st half:

1st - Nice drive, stalled near the red zone. FG
2nd - 5 plays
3rd - 6 plays
4th - 5 plays
5th - Great drive ending in a TD.
6th - No drive or domination needed, started on the Pitt 13...TD.

Sorry, I just don't see how we "dominated" on offense when half of our drives went nowhere. We had 2 good drives and took advantage of a great interception that put us practically at their goal line. Our defense was on the field way too much in the 1st half.
