I would prefer the Gator Bowl too, it's only 150 miles from Tallahassee to Jacksonville :)

I would just like to see us in a bowl game ..period......I mean IMO The worst thing that could possibly happen is if we had to go head to head with an SEC team...

I hope they get in the Gator Bowl. In the Cotton Bowl scenario I don't think that this Irish team could handle Ok. St. or Texas Tech. Mizzou would be their best chance and I wouldn't feel good about that one either. Not that playing in the Gator Bowl would be an easy win, but probably much more winnable than the Cotton sceanriio or one of the big BCS games.

I'm an Irish homer, but I will be first to say that they're not good enough to legitimately play in a BCS game this year. Win 3 of the the next 5 games and start prepping for the Gator Bowl.

I agree...I do NOT want to play in the Cotten Bowl!!!!! We do not have the firepower to keep up with a Texas Tech team!!!!

You guys sound like a bunch of beaten wives.

"We want it all, but don't hit us too hard"

Eff any bowl game. If they don't win out, they should go home to their mommas at Christmas and figger out what the f they need to do to get their poopycacca together in order to destroy everyone from then on out.

Then go back to class.

I'm not sure which SEC teams will be bowl eligible, but Miss, Miss State, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina and Auburn are all looking average to poor this year. I guess you're assuming we would face one of the 4 good teams in the SEC?

The myth that the SEC has the fastest players and no one can keep up with the "NFL minor leagues" has been demonstrated to be false just last week when WVU ran all over Auburn despite an early 17-3 Auburn lead.

Win out or go home might be one of the dumbest things I have ever read on this board.

I guess you think those extra practices wouldnt help all of our young players? Nor would possibly ending the sting of our bowl game losing streak?

Yea win out or go home, real smart

It's almost psychically impossible for a coach not to want to play in the best bowl offered. If ND gets upgraded bowl-wise, well that's life. We take it. And I hope we do. And I'd go in thinking that we are going to kick the asses of whomever it is we play.

Here's another thing. There's no way an ND turn-down against a more competitive team would stay out of the media. And when it came out that Big Bad ND was running scared against another D-1A team, the program would be a laughing stock. It would give Mark May (and oily Dan Lebatard) ND bashing fodder for weeks.

"Oh, we can't play them! Why, they are so big and so fast! They might hurt us..."

"Let's bake some cookies and read some poetry to reduce our anxiety! And then hope the Little Sisters of the Poor become bowl eligible."

Nah! You guys claim to be fans? You're sissies!

Dude, calm down.

People just don't want to see ND get beat badly again that's all. Chill out.

Although I agree with where you are coming from I can see what some are saying.

We win out minus USC and get are butt handed too us in another bowl game and we are back to square one as far as rebuilding our reputation!!!!! Especially, if we are not close to beating USC! Could be the difference in starting next year in the top 10 or around 20-25...with our schedule we are goign to need all the help we can get next year in the polls!

Doesn't mean we should be afraid to play anybody at anytime. Give them a chance and see what happens...

Sureal,

One of my favorite aphorisms is, "If there are no alternatives, there is no problem."

In my book, that means that if ND as a special case gets bowl invites that are more challenging, then I don't worry about it. Because in reality, there are no alternatives. They have to take the best game offered. So we accept the offer and go knock some heads.

No offense, but speculating about getting beat badly is the first step to getting beat badly. I don't think about stuff like that till it happens.

You make some good points....I was thinking more along the lines of UGA or Vandy....UGA is most likely going to lose a game or 3 still lol.. they have a pretty tough schedule..so that is not completely out of the realm of possiblity..our D just couldn't hang with them...Vanderbilt should not be overlooked... although not the greatest, that would be a good matchup for us imho...

And you're a frickin' moron! Put your damn crack pipe down and quit drinking your "kool-aid" so fast because it must be causing you a brain freeze!

whoa slow down!

only way we make it to a bowl game is if we beat usc, even if we do beat sc we still might not be ranked high enough to make it to a bcs bowl, so lets just win as many games as possible and go to the highest bidder like always, who cares what the opponent is, yeah i would love to get a bowl win but why not try to break the curse with a bigtime bowl?

I could care less who we play or what bowl. We better not get blown out. I will take a lost if the game is competitive. Next year BCS bowl and a win.

new yawker,

That's it exactly. ND should be matching up with high quality teams. Even if they don't win, they should match up in a competitive way.

Your point makes the implied avoidance strategy articulated by some here really stark and really stinky. If Charlie can't get 'em to match up. Then shovel some of the Ty bile over to him.

But let's see for sure.

You hit it right on the head for me! I totally agree with you here. Bring on the best, take your best shot, and go for the brass ring. If you come up short, at least go down swinging against the best. I would rather get my ass kicked by the biggest baddest bully on the block rather than beat up on the skinny kid from the computer club.

I think you guys are giving this VERY young team too much credit. Losing big at USC and then big in a bowl game will not be good to the future of ND. I am not too worried about it because 8-4 and a bowl win looks like the end result this season! I would love to go 10-2 and a bowl win but I am a realist and do not like koolaid!

But you need to beat up the nerd to hone your skills first!

The only thing you learn by beating up the nerd is how to beat up nerds.

We learn when we play the best......win or lose!

Exactly right! If last season didn't destroy the hearts and minds of the team, then losses to SC and in a bowl, even if upsets, won't do it either. I will never concede that this team will lose anything or lose to anyone. You only get better by playing the best.

I used to play basketball down at the courts in Laguna Beach. Many, many pros would play there during the summer. Never once did I hear anyone of them attribute their success during the season to their days playing at those courts. Trust me, around those guys, I was the nerd and I don't think beating up on me helped their season in any way, shape, or form. Irish 52 said it best above! We learn when we play the best.

And, can we PLEASE give the mother f'ing "Kool Aid" references the death penalty. They are so overplayed and cliche, it is ridiculous. Let's lock the "Kool Aid" reference in the same vault as "Where's the beef?" and "Word Up!" and "Yuppie".
