I liked it. No punches were thrown, just some chest thumping. These are mostly 18-20 year old kids. Typical of how they act when they are pumped up. And I haven't seen a pumped up ND team in awhile.

I heartily agree! All of last year, the Irish came out like emotionless robots. Football is about physical agression and emotion. You've got to come out CRANKED UP as Pastor Troy would say!:bbanana:

one thing i have a gripe about is NBC's HD picture. in the middle of the 3rd quarter it started to get all choppy and didn't stop. they have two games to broadcast a week and they can't get it right. it happens every week.

It did my heart some good to see that. Hey, Stonebreaker, Zorich and the teams during the Holtz era weren't nice guys. They were bad asses and I loved those teams.

This is a damn good Stanford team that ND just beat.

Based on what? Their 3-3 record? Their wins over Oregon State (in the first week of the year, not the same team that beat USC), San Jose State, and Washington? Stanford is a better team than last year, for sure. But they are FAR from being "a damn good team".

They did not start the "skirmish". They were defending themselves. stanford initiated all stupidity throughout the game.

Ya, it shouldn't have even been a game. The defense needs to keep getting better ESPECIALLY against the run!

A win's a win friends! Getting married next weekend. The best possible wedding present I could get would be an Irish win!

The D gave up a grand total of 7 points until the refs started dictating the game.

Please. Both teams were penalized 8 times. The D was giving up yardage the whole game long. Don't make excuses for them. They are a great group of guys(it seems), but they need to get better.

Based on the game I watched on my TV screen. I know what I am talking about. :)

I have not looked into San Jose State, but Oregon State and Washington are solid teams.

Trust me. Your ND football team beat a very good Stanford team.

Excited for you!

(But I think your best wedding gift is when she says "I DO".

Best wishes to you.

Good point, I agree. I initially thought it was when she accepted the proposal. I'm pumped. She told us no TVs, there aren't any in the establishment. My best friend (whom I go to the game annually with) said he's sneaking a TV in. I told him long as I don't "know" about it it's ok!

7 pts is misleading. ability eventually evens itself out over the course of 4 quarters. Stanford moved the ball all game; ND was bailed out by timely turnovers/mistakes.

The defense has FAR to go. On the other hand, the offense is materializing into one of the better offenses in the country. The offense has been great since the second half of the MSU game.

The idea of a team being confident and showing emotion as some intangible element that leads to victories, seems kind of far fetched to me.

I think "emotion", "confidence", "fire", etc is a product of winning, not the other way around. When teams win, they have something to be emotional, and confident about.

You are looking at stats. Wrong. I called it early in the 2nd half when I noticed that refs were starting to balance the stats. In the 1st half, they called it like they saw it. In the 2nd half, they tried to balance the stats.

I disagree completely, but respect your opinion. You've got to be fired up, at least in my experience in athletics.

My only gripe about this game is that we took our foot off their necks.

Now see, Jake. You're starting out all wrong. You don't want to set a bad precedent. I was just at a wedding, two weeks ago, where the groom told his bride that he would be there as soon as possible, AFTER the game. As it turned it, we got him there on time. But he was not worried in the least. Precedent, my friend..........precedent.

Ouch! Thanks for the advice! I don't plan on missing ANYTHING to do with the wedding, so don't be worried. I do however, need to know the score occasionally.

Hard work and repetition creates confidence. People saying they "hate you" creates emotion. The combination of confidence and emotion will lead to destruction of the enemy. (But I don't know who you are responding to with your post.) The D is as good as I have seen in years. And they are young! Imagine...

LOL. You seem a bit confused. Hard work and repetition creates confidence. People saying they "hate you" creates emotion. The combination of confidence and emotion will lead to destruction of the enemy...

Natural athleticism, tangible progression, and victories lead to confidence. When you get confident the fire and emotion comes naturally.

It's silly to me how people toss around intangibles "kids a winner, kid has emotion, kid plays hard, kid is confident" .. I dont care how many kids are out there screaming at the top of their lungs, pounding their bare heads into their locker from being so psyched... skill will win 95% of the time.

When you have skill, victories, etc.. you have something to be confident/cocky and emotional about.

Agree for the most part, like I did for some of your last post, but...

People don't make those comments in your 3rd sentence unless they have witnessed it. Kids screaming at the top of their lungs are either wannabeez or highly emotional confident kids preparing to destroy an enemy that has disgraced them.

More skill, more confidence, and more emotion will win 100% of the time, until the refs get involved.

You say "When you have skill, victories, etc.. you have something to be confident/cocky and emotional about."

I agree, but once you have reached that level, you will probably be perceived as a mellow fellow. They just don't know the fire is contained inside. I think of Zorich. I think of Tony Rice. I think of Maurice Stovall. I could keep going...
