Jake Locker out indefinitely
By MOLLY YANITY
SEATTLE P-I

Quarterback Jake Locker suffered a broken right thumb in the Huskies 35-28 loss to Stanford and is out indefinitely.

The sophomore from Ferndale levied a block on a Stanford safety Sean Wiser as Jordan Polk was dashing down the sideline on a reverse that went 27 yards.

Locker played two more snaps before walking to the sideline and giving way to redshirt freshman Ronnie Fouch.

...

When asked if it might be a possibility for the Pac-10 reigning Freshman of the Year to play a position other than quarterback with the injured thumb, Lappano said, "Oh God, you've been talking to him! I heard he said that. He can't play tailback with a cast, but he would do something. That's the head man's call there… but (Locker) would (play elsewhere!)"

Good morning, sock puppet. I think you must have had a long night, as you appear to have confused IRISH Envy for some kind of Washington Husky board. Sober up, and then you can come back.

Yes, a poster with a brain.

Yes, a poster with a brain.

I guess I needed to spell it out for the previous poster.

As you imply, especially given it is a road game, it is a MAJOR deal that Locker is out. (Although the game is not next week.)

It the guy played for Florida, he would have won the Heisman last year.

You don't have to spell it out. The problem is, the first post in this thread, the copied and pasted story about Locker being out, is not the original post. You originally posted some rant about how USC had cheap shot Jake Locker, and Ty Willingham needed to be fired. Let's be intellectually honest here, and not go back and change posts to make others look bad.

Jake Locker being out is an immense help for an Irish victory when we do play them. He's the best player they have hands down.

Agreed, but you hate to see bad luck impact any team. Does beating Washington sans Jake Locker provide much satisfaction? We want to beat them with their best shot, as we would any team.

By the way, does anyone think Ty-ger won't be coaching the Huskies by October 25 when the Irish come to town?

To some extent, I agree we want to play them at their best, but on the other hand, I think any game where we build confidence is a good thing. Now, I am not saying that Washington will be a pushover without Locker, but it definitely limits their options significantly.

As for Ty, I would be surprised if he was fired prior to the ND game. However, if they are 0-7 after ND and heading into SC, he might be in big trouble. How many verbal commits does UW have right now? Looks like he will leave another cupboard completely bare.

I just hope that when we rain down 50 points on him all this racial BS when he was fired here disappears.

When we get older and stronger, yeah, I want to feel cocky enough to think I can beat the best every day of my life. (Notice the change from "we" to "I"?) Today, right now, at this moment, I will take any "hint of improvement", even if it involves an ND loss. Last year taught me to shove my missile into my poop shoot. I didn't like it too much.

Funny that you ask if Ty-ger will be coaching by Oct 25. I spoke long distance to my father yesterday and told him that I really was nervous about the Willington game this year. He asked me "do you think he will still be the coach?"

They cannot dishonor the man by firing him midseason. Willington agreed to coaching against a tough schedule. Their administrators' faults for thinking they can beat the best every day of every minute of every second. Sometimes even positive egos run wild.

It is past my bedtime. I am getting dangerous.

To myself.

LMI...

The first post you see here, now, is not the same first post that I responded to. The original first post was some rant about how USC had cheap shotted Locker, and how Willingham needed to be fired. AFTER I posted, the o.p. went back and edited his post, to make it appear that he had simply posted a news story about Locker. Sorry that I didn't quote his rant in my response.

All I know is, I would say everyone here can agree we should never under any circumstances see this in a post about anything ever again. :) Just...ew.

Locker has said he is interested in playing safety. I believe a number of schools recruiting him before he commited to WA said they wanted him as a safety.

what's interesting about that is a few things. 1) if Locker is being moved to saftey and would start, even though he hasn't practiced or played there since HS, what does that say about the quality of safeties Ty has been bringing in? 2) What does it say about Ty caring for his players? This guy has a broken thumb and he can't make the executive decision that it's better for his health that he not play? At safety, Locker would be hitting all game long. Hitting and taking hits is guaranteed to shorten a QB's career. 3) Locker is all heart; he wants to play and win. that I respect.

Poor guy went to the wrong place then.

Locker is a straight-out STUD. He scares the hell out of me every time he plays the Bruins. Personally, like one poster said, I get a lot more satisfaction of beating a team at their best, and WASH will definitely not be at their best if he's out.

Can someone help me understand how letting your dual-threat QB play defense and absorb and deliver hits while rehabbing his THROWING hand is a good idea?

What does anyone know about his backup? Serviceable?

He's a thrower. They'll be pass happy now, because they lost their best running back (Locker). They basically lost their team when Locker went out. The back-up can throw it though, so our pass D needs to play better than they did vs. Purdue...

In theory. We gave up 350 to Painter and won by 17. I'm taking Purdue in a PU-UW matchup, so I like our chances if we stuff the run and keep applying that pressure, especially to a rookie QB.

Stanford and UNC first, though. Just looking ahead.
