I'm sick of people being so critical when we lose a game. This team is good, not great by any means. Calling out Charlie, Jimmy, and Latina is just rediculous. What I saw on Saturday was Mike Haywood trying not to lose the game rather than trying to win it. That was our problem; we had no emotion or will to win. So when I hear all this criticizing every coach and player, I cringe. It is so annoying. Golden looked incredible, and Floyd was good too. We're not going to win every game. I love Notre Dame football, but I do not love our fans.

Defend the players and CW all you want. The OL is another story. It is a coaching issue.

But who leaves Latina on the coaching staff? Oh yeah the head coach Charlie Weis. Its just as much his fault as it is Latinas.

like we added depth to defensive coaching we probably need an adjustment on the offensive coaching staff. not sure what charlie's allegiance is to latina but it probably needs to end. time will tell as we go through this season.

Excellent post!

I've been an ND fan since 1972. I've seen them at their worst and I've seen them at their best. I have never given up on them and have no intention of ever doing so. Everyone with half a brain should know that it takes time to develop players. Some players catch on faster than others. Everyone expected this year to be better than last, and it is so far. This time last year, we were 0-3. Are we better than last year? Hell yes! Will we be better next year? Hell yes! The sky's the limit with this team. All it takes is time. If you're so impatient for this team to win an NC this year or even go 10-2, you might as well jump off the bandwagon now. We don't need fans like you. We need fans who will stand behind our team no matter what.

To anyone who wants Weis fired, give it a rest already. Have any of you ever thought about what will happen if that did happen? We would probably lose over 3/4 of the guys he's recruited. They committed to ND because of him. Do you honestly think they'd stay around and wait to see who their next coach would be? If I were them, I'd go someplace where the coach is established and there's no talk of him being replaced. IMO, CW's the guy who can get things done. To think otherwise is naive and downright idiotic.

I'll step off my soapbox now, and everyone who disagrees can go ahead and disparage and ridicule me. I won't sic the mods on you nor will I stand by and let fair-weather fans attack our program.

What has Charlie Weis done with this program since taking over? Nothing. Hes run it into the ground.

Umm. . . Back to back BCS bowls? The best bowl Ty got us to was the Gator Bowl. I'm not a Weis supporter, but I'm not ready to fire him yet, either. I will probably make up my mind one way or another after this season.

Isn't a fair weather fan somebody who is around for the good times and invisible during the bad times? Anybody who cares enough to keep supporting, watching and supporting/criticizing ND is not fair weather. The fair weather fans are the people who were ND fans in '05 & '06, disappeared in 2007, showed up again for the 2-0 start this year, and are gone again. The fairweather fan is a "Notre Dame fan" when there's a revival or a period of sustained success. The fair weather fan is "just a fan of college football" when Notre Dame is going through down times.

I'm not a fairweather fan. I watched the whole game this weekend. I've got a new ND hoodie on the way to my house and I'll be wearing an ND t-shirt to classes tomorrow. That's not fair weather.

People who can recognize faults and weaknesses are not lesser fans than those who don't.

As far as ND being a good team....let the stats speak for themselves:

Offense
Rush yards per game: 112th
Passing yards per game: 70th
Total Offense: 108th
Pts. per game: 90th

Defense
YPG: 67th

So those stats are indicative of a good team?

I have been called a "Fairweather" fan my whole life. Even though I have been a Notre Dame fan since the 1st time I stepped foot on campus in 1984. I have gone through the good, bad, and UGLY yet my Notre Dame flag is still flying on my flag pole in my front yard.

Now then, Do I say some negative things about how the coaching is or how the players are playing??? HELL YEAH I DO, but that doesnt make me a fairweather fan. I'm not saying all of you are calling me that but some are and you know who you are. It's a good way to let go of some steam or "Vent" if you will.

I'm also the first to say something good when I see it. This is a place where you can say almost anything you want and shouldnt be called a "Fairweather" fan for it. GO IRISH!

W/L : 2-1

its a better team than last year thats for sure, and i think he was referring to the fans that want a new coach after starting a year where we pretty much all expected to be a "middle of the road" team and now we are showing that we are that good but not excellent yet team and everyone wants a new coach.

there is no such thing as a perfect; in football or anything else.

you are either improving or getting worse and this team is improving.

I have been an Irish fan for a long time. I may even be too old to get involved with this internet stuff. I had to sign up after reading some of this garbage about how bad this team is. Also about how Weis needs to go. I thought Willingham got a raw deal. I think it is premature to give Weis the same treatment. I have been proud of the Irish teams for the most part for many years. I enjoy watching them every saturday. I enjoy the fact that when they are interviewed you can understand what they are saying and they stay out of trouble for the most part. I think college football is a game of emotion and sometimes emotion can put you on top (a blowout) or on the bottom (getting blownout). Coaching is a big part of the college game. I think, given time, we will be proud of the job the staff has done. I like the fact that Weis has a grasp on tradition and the college experience. I would let my kid play for him. We still need to remember that these are kids going to college that happen to play pretty good football. Not football players that are slacking thru college.

The one thing I can be critical of is the choice that Clausen makes on his passes. Can they not throw a seam route? Or a crossing route. It is obvious he mostly throws that sideline pass. He is very accurate on the corner route and my guess is that he will get better. He has a strong arm. (that out pass is a dart) I still like him for the future but I think we could change a little on "where" we throw the ball. I would also like to see better run offense but you need to pass to open up the run and vice -versa. I like the defense and I think the o-line has made great improvements. I like this team now and for the future.

Who cares? We got smashed in each of those games, Weis is a loving pant wearer who cant do jumping jacks due in part to a torn MCL and ACL or develop lead into gold. Maybe he should go back to medical taping?

Everybody knows that ND gets into BCS bowl games not because they deserve it, but because it will get great TV ratings and attendance totals. So citing BCS bowl losses as an example of progress is rather short-sighted.

Should Hawaii fans brag about making a BCS bowl?

No. Not at all. I have to say that is not even close to what I was inferring. Ever hear of Alan Page? Ever hear of Chris Zorich? Ever hear of Brandon Hoyt? Ever hear of Tim Brown? Ever hear of Jerome Bettis? All great players, all great human beings, all very intelligent contributing members of society. I could go on and on but I think I made my point. Why would you say that? And honestly, I am not sure of how many kids are white or black on the Irish. I was simply implying that our football players are above average kids.
PERIOD!

The W/L are smoke and mirrors my friend. We stuggled to beat San Diego State who, the previous week, lost to an FCS team! Michigan handed us that game....how many of their turnovers did we even CREATE? We could very, very easily be 0-3. Forget about the W/L, look at our team rankings this year vs. last year and tell me you think that this team is improving. Usually, W/L are not a deceiving stat but you need to look past the record into the numbers to decide if there has been improvement. You are going to see, as the season plays out, that there is no actual improvement. If we wins more games you can point to the soft, and I mean SOFT, schedule. This looks like the exact same team I saw last year.

It starts up front and neither our offensive or defensive line is doing a damn thing. I don't know what purpose was served by having the lineman get their weight up to 300lbs. Maybe working on technique would have been better. Right now they appear to be five corpses who have been propped up into a standing position. They aren't mean, they aren't nasty maybe they're intelligent but I doubt that as well. We can't run the ball, Clausen is averging two interceptions a game and our defense is getting pushed around again. Ringer went for 200 yards and I don't want to think what McGuffie would have done if Michigan would not have been playing from behind....he may have went for 250 yards.

posts like this just fan flames and are not helpful. that's fine you don't like Weis or think much of his record. but please try to make an effort with constructive responses.

Are you saying your glad we have more white players than the average power house school?

that was entirely uncalled for. the poster you responded to had no race implications in his response.

ND gets into the BCS pretty much because other conferences have used their BCS allotments. IE 2 teams per conference. And because we are in the top12. There is no way we get in finishing lower than 12th, especially with the rise of Non-BCS conference teams.

Fairweather fans are a lot different than critical ones. I have a personal and emotional attachment to this team. Its great when your team wins, sucks when they lose. I understand that you will not win every game you play, however to say that next year will be the year is getting old.

Should Hawaii fans brag about making a BCS game: Yes, they should. They came from a non-BCS Conference and put together a great season. They should cherish it and their program isn't storied, doesn't carry high expectations and has 0 NC's.

Should ND fans brag about BCS appearances: Yes, if we ever win one.
