committed to USC but will still visit ND

Now why would he "commit" and still plan on making his other schediuled visits? Not saying he didn't, but from a logical sense wouldn't you think that a recruit would NOT commit to someone IF they still plan on taking visits to other schools? Maybe he wants a free vacation to the BEST overall university in the country just to see what he will be missing (ahem ... one helluva good education)!?!

Ok, here's the whole story.

After the rah rah, we party all the time visit with USC during the OSU game, Shaq appears to have been caught up in all of Petey the Circus Master's hype and said he was going to commit.

However, he appears to have done so without talking it over with his family, since Mom very quickly told Scout that Shaq IS going to take his visit to ND on the 27th. That is still the only visit he has scheduled. She also said he is going to announce his final decision in January.

Those things have caused Scout to list him as a "soft" verbal. if that's how he or his family sees it we won't know until after the visit or possibly january.

there were reports that Shaq was getting tired of the recruiting process and wanted to verbal some time ago.

Wasn't it Shaq who was rumored to be wanting to verbal to ND a while back but one of the coaches told him to wait??

well part of that can be confirmed. Shaq definitely wanted to announce a while back because he was tired of the recruiting process.

However, it is only rumors and speculation that led (mostly) ND fans to believe that verbal was to ND. I have not seen anything from him or family that the verbal he wanted to give some time back was to ND or any other school.

I wonder if the verbal he wanted to give was to USC, but ND talked him into taking officials. Why would anyone talk a kid out of verballing to their school?

I'm not surprised he is a soft verbal to USC, any kid would immediately soft verbal after being in that sort of atmosphere in a destruction of Ohio State on prime time television. Give this kid a few months, let him take his ND visit, take in a game at the stadium and than decide.

Exactly, I remember Jimmy Clausen himself said he wanted to be a Trojan after seeing first hand the "Bush push" win at ND.

I thought he wanted to verbal to USC or was it UCLA, and we talked him out of it

Let's hope the next move is for ND verbal!! I hope you don't have to put USC verbal EVER.

i think if he chooses ND, a quick ND verbal is unlikely, even with the upcoming visit. As of now he plans on making his final decision in January, though I suppose that could change.

Evans is a soft verbal to USC...whatever the hell that means. Still supposed to visit ND shortly...but I think he's a goner. Also saw where Lalota commited to Michigan just before we beat them. Understand he was a soft verbal to MI for some time and never told anyone....so much for integrity. Hopefully, Ikard will decide to sign with ND..I think he's a better DE anyway.

nope ---v

there is a reason i am not changing his status to "USC verbal."

Lalota...Understand he was a soft verbal to MI for some time and never told anyone....so much for integrity.

how can someone be a verbal if they never told anyone?

i'm not just trying to argue over the semantics of your sentence. i read nothing of the sort. plus, if he told no one, then he didn't lead anyone else on. it's not like he led people to believe he was an Irish verbal.

that i can't say with any certainty. i can say that he has publicly affirmed that he is taking the visit to ND next saturday. he also says his final decision on a school will be made in January. so until he signs on the line, i guess we still have a shot.

I'm not saying ND doesn't get him but its never good for a person to commit to another team. Even if his parents want him to go to ND as a senior in high school myself that doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot he'll do what he wants

Its not over until its over, the thing with Shaq is, does he want to rot on the USC bench for a few years? Or does he want to make an immediate impact on a team like Notre Dame and start opposite Michael Floyd next season?

USC has some serious depth at receiver, and have recruited a I believe 4 receivers in the top 25 for this upcoming season.

If he wants to play, an academics are on his mind Notre Dame is the school. If he wants to stay close to home, he will pick USC.

He whispered his commitment into Pete Carrol's ear as opposed to telling the media.

ok there are at least three receivers above evans on the depth chart Floyd, Kamara, and Golden. Also walker and goodman are no slouches. Just because someone is a top recruit doesn't mean they will immediatley start. The other receivers have a year on him and to expect him to start as a freshman is ridiculous. also if depth was the deciding factor for all recruits ND would never get a rb. In fact some USC players dont even need to start to make it in the NFL three years from now when ND hopefully is great again everyone will be arguing about how stupid some kids are for going to a bad school to start they should go to ND take some bench for three years come start as a senior win a NC and then go to the NFl it all comes down to what the recruit values and as of now he values what USC can give him over what ND is offering. Still i hope he comes to Nd but dont assume he worries about depth or anything you would worry about he is his own man and will do what he thinks id best

I'd be happy to remove Kamara in favor of something else.

why all the hatred towards the our biggest red zone threat? have faith in our guys, especially the guys charlie is putting on the field. tate is definately having a coming out year, but kamara already has two touchdowns also this year so lets not try and sit the kid already. he made one mistake on the INT the last game, but he is not the reason we lost.
