I'm about 25% negative and 75% positive. My issue is that there are a few in here who feel that by us being positive that ND is magically going to go 11-1. "Hey keep it positive and we can be 10-2 or 11-1!" Sometimes I feel like some of you are my mom and she tells me that the acne on my face is not noticeable when I have six whiteheads on my forhead. Sometimes you need to have "realistic positivity." Yea my mom always makes me feel good but maybe something along the lines of "hey we can get acne checked out and get it cleared up real soon" might be a little better in that situation. I see nothing wrong with being postive, but I like positive when its a guarantee, i would prefer 'hope' over being so positive that you feel things are guaranteed locks.

I hope to hell that they go 11-1, i run my mouth all the time to other fans and i tell them that they will go 11-1, but i dont really think it. I talk realistic to my fellow ND fans. Ill say somethin like "you hear Holtz say they will go 11-1? I like the attitude but I wish he would keep his mouth shut and let them do their own thing."

I like a little team spirit, but realistic team spirit. Youre not considered a band wagon jumper if you dont like what you are seeing on the field and question what a coach is doing or if you dont think they can go 11-1. I definitely do not want to see Weis fired but ultimately it is his job to produce (obviously).

Hopefully this weekend will prove to be a 'W' and THEN we can start getting out of hand with 11-1 predictions. I like to stay conservatively realistic until they have the dominant team. That doesnt make me a band wagon jumper, it just keeps me more sane when they lose.

But these are peoples personalities and you are what you are, cant change it.

Now to the Magnitude, obviously my opinion also.

The only thing i really question is if the PLAYERS believe than can go 11-1 or if they feel that they belong on the same field as other teams and its tough to do that when your talent is young. I feel that this game this weekend is so big it is unbeliveable. Not big because its Michigan and its a rival. Big in the springboard sense. I honeslty feel this season and the next 2 seasons rest on this game. It can spring them ahead to a great season which would lead them into a nice off-season or drop them back so far mentally- because they are a relatively young team. They need to win this game and i will be extremely disappointed if they dont win.

Opinions? (especially on the view of the magnitude of this game)

On a side note--- I dont have 6 whiteheads on my forehead.

You're absolutely right, all the way around (well, except for the acne reference!!!). Blind optimism on a message board with other ND followers bugs the you-know-what out of me. "realistic positivity" is a perfect phrase to describe me.

And yeah, this game is HUGE. It's beyond huge. Lou Holts weekend, rivalry, important recruits galore, chance to go 2-0, SPRINGBOARD for the program, etc. I can't wait! We need to be LOUD in the stadium; show our ND pride!

This game is going to set the tone for the rest of the season. Period. If we head out of Michigan weekend 2-0, we have a chance to keep getting better and perhaps make a bowl appearance. If we lose to a Michigan team in transition on offense and adjusting to a whole new coaching regime...in our own building...it's going to make other games tougher from a mental standpoint. However, having said that, I would be very surprised if the Irish do not take the field fired up and really put Michigan away.

that was nice...thanks, and I'm 43 last month and still get a pimple on occasion.I'll agree that this weekend will tell a lot about the players attitude, although at the same time michigan has already lost a game against a team that may or may not be that much better then SDSU in the long run.
Only time will tell on this and although I was a little upset last saturday, notre dame did win and that's all that matters for now.

I agree this game is huge and I am hoping Weis pops a lot the white heads that are currently on the forehead of ND football. Look out when he pops the HUGE ozing one that is our OL run blocking!!!:puke:

You know, weis, if you are not a band wagoner, then whats with the comments of having realistic expectations (not a 10-2 or 11-1 record) and managing what they wll do, yet when the team is struggling (even when it is realistic to expect) you call for Skip Holtz?
In the first half of the first game???
No faith, and what would you have done if they lost? That is a fair weather fan. Everyone has the right to complain, gripe, bitch and moan about how we did dot play well and how we need to improve, but you lose me when your first response is to look to hang the coach at half time.

What would you have done on D-day when the first few waves hit the Normandy beaches at Utah and Omaha? Oh, crap, we got no chance! get back, retreat, retreat. Back to England, let the Germans keep f***en Europe anyway?

I never Demanded Weis' head, i wrote that Skip Holtz post more in humor than seriousness. But apparently it got alot of discussion going. That is the reason I wrote "although my name suggests otherwise" because it is ironic that I would write that. And i figured I would write about him because he is associated with one of ND's great coaches. Not like i was writing "hey did you see GT go up and take care of business at BC?-Lets hire paul Johson!!"

You're gonna tell me you enjoyed watching ND struggle Saturday? My "realistic expectations" when a head coach tells me "this will be a statement game" is that it would be an easy victory. and I know sometimes things dont go as planned.

I guess next time I will add "LOL" and "LMAO" or "hehe" or "haha" so you realize I wasnt serious. Also, if you want to refer to a post, refer to a post i wrote last year after ND lost to Navy ("Relax on Weis"). Then we can talk about who is and who is not a fair weather fan.

So, after watching us BARELY beat SDSU, and USC hammer Virginia by 50 last weekend, you still think we're going to lose once more and then beat USC at the end of the year??? And like always, you give zero reasons for your position, yet you brag about making a blind prediction. That, my friend, is why your donation bar is red. Just give reasons for your take, that's all I ask.

If I knew how to 'negative rep' someone, this would be a time.

We're going to get better and CW will take us there, but c'mon dude, if I'm a UM fan I'm laughing at ND fans after reading this. It makes us look like blind morons. Sorry, but it's the truth. Our own fans have been laughing at their fans for predicting they're going to beat us 31-10, and now we're predicting 11-1? Just...wow.
