Well, at least Rudolph has looked like he can step in and play right away. I have been reading that Ragone was the smallest of all the TE's, so we aren't losing much as far physical attributes between the two. Hopefully, KR can step in and learn on the job because he is the only big threat TE we have left this year. The other 2 are more blocking TE that I'm not really sure can stretch the field. Still blows.

Kyle has been impressive and I think he will be exactly what we need, I just hope Ragone is able to recover and come back next year.

Luckily TE is a position of depth. If this would've happened to Michael Floyd or Duval Kamara, it would be a lot harder to swallow.

I agree with WWB As long as Mike can recover and come back next year, all will be fine cause next year we could have 2 TE sets with Rudolph and Ragone, that would make for some nice play action situations.

From what i read Kyle was working will the first group already this afternoon, so intially it sounds like that will be the one Coach Weis goes.

Mike was the faster and better route runner compared to Yeatman, who has better blocking skills. so, regardless of Ragone's size, he is the kind of TE who is too fast for LB's, and too big for safeties. this is a big loss.

Luckily TE is a position of depth.

i don't know why everyone keeps saying this. Yeatman (very little playing time, none as a starter), Schmidt (zero playing time at this new position), Rudolph (freshman), Fauria (freshman).

That depth flat out sucks. Injuries to Ragone and Reuland's transfer destroyed the depth that could have been there.

It's a tough loss for sure; going from Ragone to Rudolph (even though their skill sets complimented eachother) is a really nice "tough loss" if that makes any sense.

i was thinking the same thing. schmidt is more of an h back than anything else. rudolph is going to be a great player but sticking a freshmen into major playing time will always bring mistakes and possible bad plays. this injury will set us back some, especially early in the season.

We aren't looking to contend for a national title this season. Rudolph is the most complete player we have at the position (in regards to his potential). I think this is a great opportunity for him, and he definitely has the raw skills to prevail. If he struggles, he'll go into his so. season with significant game-reps under his belt, making his 2009 prospects even greater.

I agree, I think we will be just fine especially since we are focusing on the run this year anyways

As much as I hate to lose Ragone for the season (he is our best playmaker at TE) it is nice to know the injury is coming at a position of strength/depth. Rudolph is a 5 star athlete/prospect, and regarded by many as the best TE in the 2008 class. He's a top 20 on rivals...and comes with a laundry list of credentials.

One 5 star recruit does not mean we have depth, especially since he is a Freshmen...now I am not worried because I do think Rudopl and Fauria are big boys and can provide the muscle needed, but let's face it, Ragone is a big loss... we can only hope Rudolph can step up, now we would have depth if Reuland never left.

This sucks, I was hoping for a big year with Ragone. Time for our freshy to step it up!!! I think Rudolph is more than ready and I think he can fill the void.

Yeatmen and Fauria are serviceable at the position. Toss in a top 20 overall prospect, and a playmaker like Ragone, and you're talking some serious depth. Ragone is a tough loss, but if there was one position we could afford a tough loss it was at TE.

very tough loss. We had been lucky up to this point with injuries.

but remember, the less weapons you have in the receiving game the more the opposing teams defense can focus on stopping the run. a great passing game requires a great running game and vice versa.

I am thiniking Rudolph and Yeatman are now fighting for the top spot while schmift and Fauria will be battling for time as #3

serious depth? based on a top 20 freshman prospect? you guys must have forgotten how great the first year freshman played last year.

You guys are acting like Rudolph can't catch/run. Just because he wasn't a speedburner like Ragone doesn't mean he doesn't have playmaking potential.

A Yeatmen/Rudolph combo (with Fauria playing in junk time) is stellar. Rudolph will see more development time, and it should better prepare him for 2009 -- A year most prognosticators are pegging us as NC contenders.

I am not as worried about losing a receiving tight end as I would be losing a blocking tight end. That will reduce the threat down the middle that we had in Ragone, but it is going to give a couple of very talented (and LARGE) freshmen the chance to get a bunch of playing time.

I never want to see players hurt - EVER. However, last year we didn't have a single injury in the pre-season and we all know what happened last year. I don't think this happened because of contact, I am just saying these guys are giving it their all physically this year and that level of competition is bound to take its toll.

Get well soon Mike! Get yourself back for 2009! God Bless in your healing and rehabilitation.
