Mike recieved an official offer today. The only other team to offer was Auburn. Here is the good news he said that he wants to play football up north and his father played ball with CB years ago. His father has alot of respect for CB and the family knows quite a bit about ND. He is supposed to make a summer visit.

I feel good about our chances here. Wanting to play up north? His dad his friends with CB? Those two factors coupled with CB's recruiting prowess has me feeling very confident as of now.

This kid is a tremendous talent. In only 5 games he recorded 56 tackles 8 sacks and forced 4 fumbles. All that from the SS spot is incredible

I've wanted us to offer him for a while now, he seems like the prototypical safety that ND likes. tall, fast, and physical.

Good sized kid with some gaudy stats for the amount of games, I would love to see some film on him. Anybody know where any is?

from the sounds of it ( i havent seen any tapes yet) but he sounds alot like laron landry out of lsu. a punishing back who can read the ball too. plays well close to the line and can cover over the top if needed. i say if its between us and scUM we have a shot. my only worry is what is dick rod gonna say to him to try to turn him in thier favor? we have to have a lean with this kid. nd=nc? whats the story with this kid?

Sadly, whatever it takes, even if it isn't the truth. I would love to see this kid banging heads for the Irish. He's been one of my favorites so far.

I like our chances- If it is down to ND and Mich, then after looking at his scout profile, he is only listed as having an offer from ND and Auburn- none from scUM.

Yeah, I love the size and speed he would bring. And w CB and Tanuta coaching... man he could cause some serious damage to receivers on the crossing routes!

My guess 75% ND - 25% Mich He loves CB and his dad is very good friends with him. Who would be his position coach at ND? The answer is CB. The only thing that gives me the slightest worry is that some kids hit the campus and think this isn't for me. Case in Point Etienne Sabino, we led with him last year until he stepped on campus. obviously this is a rarity but it does happen.

but if the kid doesnt appreciate the campus what is he going to appreciate about college. hell play football and just go to class. the atmosphere there is the best in the country. fan support, sports, and everything else that makes it what it is.

Two leaders for safety
By Jamie Newberg, Recruiting Analyst
Jun 3, 8:58 pm EDT

Mike Jones is a hard hitting safety from Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater High School. Jones, 6-3 and 200 pounds, recorded 56 tackles, eight sacks, forced four fumbles, and had 10 pass deflections last season as a junior.

“I love the contact,” Jones said. “I have the speed to get to the ball. I just think I have that game speed. I make a lot of plays and read and react quickly. I think I am good in coverage as well but I know I need to work on my hips.

“Most schools are recruiting me as a strong safety but I know I may grow into a linebacker. It’s doesn’t matter to me. I just like to play.”

According to Jones he has six scholarship offers. Auburn, Notre Dame, Michigan, Wake Forest, North Carolina, and UCF have offered.

“I really like Michigan a lot. I like Notre Dame too. They are my top two schools.

“Michigan has always been good. They have a huge fan base with a big stadium. It’s crazy. I have not been up there yet and I will go there this summer or maybe the fall. I think I fit in with their defense from what I know. I can fit in just about anywhere because there is versatility to my game.

“Notre Dame is a smart school and you need grades and better be able to handle the academics. They have a great fan base. I love coach (Korwin) Brown. I would like to play for him. He’s a real fiery guy.

Charlie's philosophy on DBs- "We try to build position and flexibility between the safeties and the corners, which allows to you do a couple of things. Make sure you have enough depth at corner and safety, but at the same time, being able to not get mismatched by people by put being multiple wide receivers on the field where you don't have guys with coverage ability."

It is being reported a couple places that some confusion exists over whether Mike has an official, written offer.

Hopefully he will and would commit to the Irish, but until then I'm gonna remove "official offer" from his name.

i am still hoping he has the offer. he is a talent in the backfield of the defense. do you thinkk they are persuing one saftey over the other?

Not sure, but it seems like they have a plan of taking 3-DBs this year. Based on the offers out there, they seem to want one CB and two safeties. But that's just where the recruiting places project them. A safety could play CB as well.

A couple of the bigger safeties being recruited could end up playing a role like Harrison Smith played this spring, as a safety much closer to the line, almost as an OLB.
