Nunes stays hot
By Rick Kimbrel, Recruiting Analyst
10 hours, 33 minutes ago

If you had any doubts that quarterback Josh Nunes (6-4, 205, 4.8) from Upland, Calif., is one of the hottest quarterbacks in Southern California then those doubts must be disappearing because Nunes has notched another offer and is getting a lot of recruiting action.

“Josh received his sixth offer this morning ( March 13th 2008) from the University of Utah,” Upland assistant coach in charge of recruiting Mike Esquivel said. “Coach Aaron Roderick called Upland Head Football Coach Tim Salter to tell him the news. Josh had an opportunity to speak with Coach Roderick to inform him that he will be making an unofficial trip to visit the University.

Four-star quarterback Josh Nunes (6-4, 205, 4.8) from Upland, Calif., continues on a tear as hot on the heels of an offer from Cal, the Sun Devils of Arizona State offered him a scholie 24 hours later.

“The past 48 hours have been the best time in my life,” Nunes said. “I would have never thought to have two offers from two Pac-10 Universities in a 48 hour time span.

By Rick Kimbrel, Recruiting Analyst
Apr 15, 7:15 pm EDT

Four-star quarterback prospect Josh Nunes (6-4, 205, 4.8) from Upland, Calif., has had a very busy spring break that saw the entire Nunes family go on a road trip to see four schools that have offered the talented signal caller scholies. The trip the Nunes family went on logged more than 3,000 miles, but it appears it was well worth it.

By Greg Biggins, Recruiting Analyst
Apr 30, 1:56 pm EDT

With scholarship offers flying in from all over the country, it sounds like Upland (Calif.) quarterback Josh Nunes could be close to narrowing his list of choices and also making his college commitment.

Nunes, 6-4, 200 pounds released a statement this morning breaking down the time frame for when he’ll be making his college decision.

“On the day after Memorial Day, Tuesday May 27th, I plan to announce my top five choices,” Nunes said. “Shortly after that I plan to pick my college.

When you have some of the nation’s top schools clamoring for your services then you have to get an up close feel to help make your decision. The talented signal caller from Upland just landed offer number 16 from one of the nation’s best football programs.

Top Performer

Elite 11: Josh Nunes (6-4, 211), Quarterback
(Upland, Calif.)
Nunes proved worthy of his Under Armour All-American status with a great showing both Friday and Saturday. Aside from his striking arm strength, Nunes certainly looked good on the hoof and passed the eyeball test physically with his 6-foot-4, well-built frame.
Known more for his pure pocket passing skills, the ESPN 150 Watch List prospect showed good footwork and the ability to throw on the run with velocity and accuracy. Nunes flashed his powerful arm throughout the day in various drills and demonstrated he could make all the college throws, particularly the difficult deep-out route. What was impressive in person was his ability to apply touch or zip depending on the throw and his overall RPMs on the football.

We would have liked to have seen him drive the ball more downfield at times, but he got rid of the ball quickly and his delivery described everything about his two-day performance -- it was very smooth.

Much like Brehaut, I wonder if we took ourselves out of the race ( assuming we want a QB still)

We're out, according to ESPN

ESPN - Josh Nunes Rankings, Grade, News, Stats - College Football Recruiting 2009

Under Armour All-American Josh Nunes announced in a press release that only eight programs are still in the running for his coveted signature.

"I wanted to reduce the number to five schools but, after long consideration, at this time the best I could do is eight. It somehow feels uncomfortable because I would be blessed and fortunate to play for all the schools that have offered me a scholarship."
"However, I feel I owe the schools that are not in my top eight the respect to continue their QB recruiting with the same respect they have given me. I have had great conversations and relationships with all the schools who have offered me and it was a very hard decision. However, I have known for several weeks of my selection, and I am very confident in my top eight that I have chosen at this time."
"Out of the schools that have currently offered me, my top eight schools in alphabetical order are ASU, BYU, Florida, Harvard, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Stanford and Tennessee. If I am unable to make my final decision soon, I plan on taking my five official visits to assist me in making my decision. I look forward to doing more research on the schools I've narrowed it down to and continuing the process."

Don't know why people are spending time following this kid. Notre Dame was nowhere on his list.

Because he was one of the top QB prospects out west. The fact that ND has little interest and he has little interest just became apparent recently.

When do you want us to start following a prospect? Only after he gets an offer? Only after he commits? There are alot of profiles of prospects here that will never get an offer, let alone commit.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume we won't get a QB this year. So far, ND has struck out with the main prospects it was interested in, but that doesn't mean they are desperate.

CW and his staff have proven very adept at finding what we would consider sleeper prospects. They were not nationally known and didn't pop up on the main recruiting radars until the end of their senior year. But by that point, CW already secured a commitment and it was too late for the other schools.

There are a few more QB prospects the Irish are showing interest in, and not just Newton. If I can, I will get those profiles up also.

I believe CW previously stated he wants 1 QB recruit every year.

Also, Nate Montana was a prefered walk-on for 2008. Nicholas Montana is a 2010 prospect, who has stated he is a USC fan.

Montana's oldest son to walk on at Notre Dame as quarterback

PASADENA, Calif. -- Joe Montana can't help himself. Standing on the sidelines of Maranatha High, a Hail Mary pass away from the Rose Bowl, the Super Bowl legend is stretching his arms out and continuously licking his fingers before getting his hands on a football.

"I'm just getting ready," says Montana, wearing a navy Notre Dame T-shirt, gold shorts and sneakers. "You know, just in case."

Montana's watching his eldest son, Nate -- a senior at national power De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) who will be a preferred walk on with Notre Dame this fall -- throw at the Steve Clarkson Academy and is beginning to have flashbacks.

"I think my wife was hoping they'd pick something else," says Montana, whose younger son, Nicholas, 16, will be a junior quarterback at De La Salle next season. "She kept pointing at me and saying, 'Look at your dad. Do you really want to walk like that?'"

Montana has entrusted the football development of his sons to Clarkson, who has tutored the likes of Matt Leinart, Ben Roethlisberger, J.P. Losman and current Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen. Following in that line is Dayne Crist -- a highly-touted incoming freshman who will be ahead of Nate Montana on the depth chart when they arrive in South Bend. While Montana advises his sons on the finer points of quarterbacking, he handed his boys off to Clarkson after he and his wife, Jennifer, saw a television story on Clarkson and spoke with Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis about the private quarterback instructor.

"I still scratch my head. I mean this is Joe freaking Montana," says Clarkson. "He's got a bust in Canton, he's got MVP awards, played in the greatest games and he trusts me with his most cherished possessions, his kids."

While no one knows the position better than Montana, who won four Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers, he never wanted to pressure his two sons into playing football, almost to a fault as both didn't start playing until they got to high school, with Nate, 18, playing basketball first before shifting his attention to football.

"I actually wish I had done a couple things earlier with them," says Montana, who resides in Northern California's Contra Costa County. "But you get so much pressure from everybody saying, 'You're not going to push them into football are ya?'"

As a third string quarterback on the varsity for his senior season, Nate was 12-of-19 for 166 yards and one touchdown and ran 17 times for 33 yards in limited action. No scholarship offers came his way, but he worked out for several schools before committing to Notre Dame over USC and Stanford. Weis -- a family friend -- said Nate would have a chance to compete for a spot on the team and earn a scholarship in the future.

"In the end I told him, 'Look, don't go to school for me, don't go to school for mom, you got to do what you got to do and go to the school you'll be happiest at if football doesn't work out,'" Joe Montana says, "and he chose Notre Dame."

The decision wasn't surprising considering Nate's options, although it will make life slightly uncomfortable, at least early-on, for the son, who would rather not be known as "Joe Montana's kid."

"I try not to think about it as much as I can," says Nate of the inevitable comparisons. "It would have come up at other schools too so I'm not too worried about it."

Of course, that will be nearly impossible when football practices begin and Joe Montana, whose two daughters, Alexandra, 22, and Elizabeth, 21, attend Notre Dame, starts to roam the sidelines at games or toss the ball around with players during practice as he has done in the past.

"We didn't push any of them into Notre Dame," Montana says. "I basically said, 'I'd like for you just to visit Notre Dame. I don't want you to make a decision without going there because if you say, 'No, I don't want to go there without visiting the school, you don't know what you're missing.' It's just a different place. It's really hard to explain."

The Montana legacy at Notre Dame will likely end in two years as Nicholas isn't expected to follow his older brother to South Bend. "I don't think he's going to be coming [to Notre Dame]," Nate says. "We play games against each other and try to prove which one is better all the time but he can go wherever he wants."

"Well, he's quite a USC fan," says Clarkson with a smile. "How's that for a rivalry?"

After an offer..? Sure but before... Not really. I'm more interested in what players Notre Dame is interested in. Not players interested in Notre Dame. There are a lot of players that the coaching staff stays away from because of lack maturity and a sense of having off the field problems.

that's fine. but alot of people here are interested in regional recruits (i.e. people they hear alot about because they play FB in their city). and some people just like following recruiting in general.

which recruits are going to our rivals is also interesting to some.

so, you'll probably get a flavor of who is being recruited by ND and who is really interested in ND by the profiles.

plus since there's no games right now, we've gotta do something.

notre dame football isnt just about the plays on the field or the players to some. its a lifestyle. an obsession to some. you learn about 16 year olds who may or may not go here and you learn about them read about them and it makes you feel like youre apart of it. twisted to some but it keeps some people level and its not hurting anyone. so if you dont want to read about everyone just check the frofiles about who we are interested in.

That is a most peculiar choice.

He has not visited Tennessee that i know of, but he has offers from many west coast schools that he has visited.

Interesting.
