Per ESPN:

ESPN 150 Watch List athlete Cierre Wood talked about his recent commitment to Notre Dame with the Ventura County Star.
"Their academic standards are high. They graduate over 98-percent of their students."
Wood also asked the coaching staff if he would redshirt as a freshman and was told that probably won't be the case, "They aren't afraid to play young guys. I will get my chance."

Additionally, ESPN's Billy Tucker described Wood's skills and how he'll fit in with the Irish, "Wood is arguably one of the better athletes in this class and there is no denying his high school rushing production. Great land for the Irish in terms getting an excellent skill prospect, but we are not certain he is the game changing back the Irish have been looking for."
"Actually, we are not sold on the high-cut Wood as a true in-line running back, and think he may be more productive at the next level utilizing his great receiving skills in the slot or his excellent range at safety."
"Notre Dame finished with a top-10 recruiting class in 2008 and landed a major prospect today (Saturday) as it begins to build it nucleus for 2009."
"Wood chose ND over in-state UCLA and the Bruins close proximity to home. While early, the decision must sting newly hired UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel a bit as he tries to land his first offensive recruit and top-tier prospect for 2009."

Woo Hoo. Now you can see espn starting to find any chinks in the armor and getting reasons to drop his ratings. Let em eat cake.

Cierre ran a 10.8 100 meters as a frosh, and to go along with his great speed he has exceptional vision and athleticism so he should be one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the nation in the Class of 2009.

For comparisons and questions relating to C. Wood's 4.67 40yd, Golden Tate ran a 10.93 100m in the Tenn pre-lims before getting injured. Which was the fastest at that point. So if Cierre really ran a 10.8 as a Frosh, there should be no concerns about speed. Tate info is from here....Player Bio: Golden Tate :: Baseball

I'm honestly not sure where the 4.67 forty time came from. The slowest time I seen recorded on him is 4.57 and that was over a year ago. It's being said that he is now closer to the low 4.4's It's hard to tell, the only thing I noticed was he pulls away from defenses on his highlight film.

I am sure our staff has analized him well. I will say that he is very shifty and elusive. I was not overly impressed with his speed. He did not really run away from defenders. He does look to be great at breaking tackles. Nice thing is that our RB recruiting is now done for 2009 with Wood and Riddick.

Jones did you see his jr films he pulls away flat out. IMO he looks faster than the clips I've seen of Riddick

Someone else mentioned that he reminds them of Lee Becton. I agree after watching his film.

Looks plenty fast for me. Now is not the time to play the espn card and look for any nit to pick. He's Irish- love what we got.

This a huge pick up! I know we are currently stacked at RB. But they are some of the best athletes on a football team, and would have an eaiser time switching positions if need be.

it cracks me up on the usc on the board they say they didnt want cierre at all. If they would have gotten him they would be saying how good he is.

Just like JC last year (or technically 2 recruiting years ago). Before he commited to ND, he was awesome, everyone wanted him, etc... Then when he commited to ND, he was overrated, failure, etc...

This will really make you drool. He ran a 10.6 100m in his league championship track meet. In the race he beat Patrick Hall a USC commit who is considered a burner. He also won the high jump.

Cierre Wood will make this team a championship contender in two years, Trevor Robinson told me so

I am just going to enjoy watching them develope over the next several years. I will try to let that soothe any of my ruffled feathers at the probable stubbed toes between now and then. Or not.

I know i'm gonna regret posting this, what with all the Chicken Littles we have, but here it goes:

"In the boys' meet, double winners included Steven Graham of Santa Paula in the 1,600 and 3,200; Cierre Wood of Santa Clara in the 100 and Joey Bui of Villanova in the long jump and triple jump. Wood later scratched from the 200 after tweaking a hamstring in his lunge for the finish in the 100.

if it's any consolation, i tweaked my hamstring bad a few weeks ago, and I'm already back to running 10.6 100 meter runs. 10 minutes 6 seconds that is. ;)
