I'm sure there was already at least one thread on this before, but I would like to know where all my fellow IE brothers and sisters rank our rivals by who you despise the most.

My Top 5 list is:

1. U$C - Of all programs, I believe the Trojans deserve our hatred more than any other. They have found a way to dodge NCAA and media punishment for constant probable (neither will investigate) illegal and unethical issues in their "storied history".

2. scUM - A regional rival who uses comparisons to ND to validate their program and give themselves a feeling of having the moral high ground. With closer evaluation, it is clear they fall fall short of what they claim to be.

3. Free Shoes U, Duh Canes and the Gay-tors - I believe all three of the schools can be counted as one. The differences are minimal and the issues are very consistent (questionable recruiting, player graduation rates, poor sportsmanship and player criminal activity).

4. Michigan State - A program who seems to focus only on ND with no regard for the rest of their schedule. Win or lose, the Spartans will immediately call it a season and let their descent amount of talent underachieve the rest of the season.

5. Purdue - If you are from the northern portion of Indiana, you know how insufferable these "hicks" can be. They act like they have now become a national power and deserve respect they haven't earned yet.

Dis-honorable mention:

Penn State - The fans are moronic and the team hasn't really been any better than us.
Boston College - Catholic school who's last national championship was ...

If the word is HATED I am going to have to look at the list differently
1. Boston College-They suck at life and have messed up a season or two. 1993 we would and still probably have won the NT if not for these jabronies. They have a super inferiority complex and are just annoying.
1B. Michigan State-As of late they have been beating us like it is their job and they are TERRIBLE. Planting the flag makes them even more hated.
3. Michigan-What a bunch of trash talking losers. The sound of their song makes me want bring back my dinner. Nothing makes the year better than spanking their ass early in a season.
4. USC-Too much respect to hate them as much. They are the #1 rival but to be honest we have been out talent, coach, and played by them. They have class unlike the rest of these clowns.
5. UT-This is personal b/c I live in Orange country. If I ever hear about Miracle at South Bend again I might start handing out black eyes like it is my job. Nothing was more gratifying than being in South Bend when Quinn and Co destroyed their sorry asses. I wish we could play them every year and beat their brains in.

Now I feel alot better.

I can't say I hate any of our rivals, or any other team for that matter.

But among the teams I appreciate and respect the least are:
1) The entire SEC (except Vanderbilt) because of the way they make academics a joke, and the abismal graduation rates for their black players. And the fact they claim to be the best conference, but year after year they schedule 70% of their non-conf games against the SunBelt Conference and Div-1AA teams.
2) USC because I live in Southern Cal and it's nothing but crimson and gold and that slick coach they got. They also have problems with integrating athletics and academics.
3) Any college program that does not educate their players and instead pushes them into majors and classes where they're given (as compared to earn) passing grades to maintain athletic eligibility (cough-michigan-cough)
4) Any college program that can't graduate 70% of it's players. If graduating and earning
a degree requires a "C" average, the schools should be held to that same minimum standard.
5) And the Colonel with his wee beedy eyes and that smug look on his face, "Oh you're going to buy my chicken."

As of right now you cannot argue that the SEC is not the best conference in college football on the field. Their teams are superior, even though half their players do not belong in college but that is not the arguement.

I'm with you Kaplan on the UT hatred. I live in orange country as well (except my ten acres) and despise the University of Tennessee. I was also at the game in South Bend when the Irish put the ole butt kicking on them crooks. That is why they wear orange so they never have to change clothes when they go from work release on saturdays back to their home on sunday.

It's interesting to see Michigan up there given our limited history with them.

Despite that I would go with:
1) USC
2) BC
3) MSU
4) scUM
5) Purdue

1. USC--Irritating pretty boys. I just can't stand them...

1A. BC--I hope they never ever ever win a conference title in the ACC. EVER!!! I hate that team in every sport you name it. They are close to being number one over USC. Still not over that Big East crap they pulled... (I know I should get over it already)

3. Florida--even though they are not rivals on the field but on the recruiting trail it's as hot as ever. Scumbag coach. Plus I hate those colors...

4. Michigan--Need I say more? That clown that they have as a coach is making me lose respect for them.

5. Michigan State--They just should not be beating us at all. Plus that flag plantin' crap was classless...

I'm having a hard time putting my least fave-5 in order, but here goes:

1) BC: Glenn Foley is the Anti-Christ, and Mike Mamula is Brian Bozworth's stunt double.

2) Michigan State: Police Academy 2 through 26. Need I say more? Thanks Bubba.

3) scUM: I've got nothin' clever, they suck. I hope we beat them by 70 every year. Brother in law is a big Michigan fan, last few years have been humbling.

4) U$C: Make sense to be #1, but you have to tip your hat to superior talent. They got some solid football players too.

5) THE Oh-HIGH-O State Penitentiary: Only school on my list we don't have a regular rivalry with. Their fans are violent and the tailgate area in Columbus feels like a prison yard. I guess if the mission is to make the fans really feel like a part of the team, then the atmospehre is perfect.

Honorable Mention: Florida - One more 8-4 season and Urban is irrelevant. Sit back and enjoy.

I can't see Purdue being hated at all. I went there (before graduating from IU in South Bend), and don't recall arrogant fans, NCAA infractions or anything like that. That said for me,

1. USC
2. Florida
3. Ohio State
4. Boston College
5. Michigan

I root for almost every team on Notre Dame's schedule when they're playing just to help out Notre Dame's strength of schedule. The only team that I continually root against is B.C.

1. B.C.
2. Michigan
3. USC (Pathetic, but since 2002 (not including Weis' first two years) I've expected us to lose to them
4. MSU (just a bunch of bums on that team in my opinion)
5. Florida (I respect Bowden for how he recruits his way and he can get away with it down there. And Miami is trying to turn things around and I want Miami to be the bad-ass team that we all hate again and its tough to dislike a team thats been as bad as theyve been recently

Another possibility soon could be Stanford, as there were lots of personal fouls and late hits last year and we've now won two tight ones in a row at Stanford.

Junk, I can tell you for a fact that Ft. Wayne is crawling with Purdue fans and they rarely shut up about the "genius of Tiller". :puke:

Hate is too strong of a word. However, I really dislike..............

1. BC
2. USC
3. Michigan
4. Tennessee
5. Florida

2 through 5 are close together and could be flipped around. BC stands alone at the top. I hope we crush them this year!

funny, i go over to fight on state a good bit (penn state) and they frequently do most hated schools surveys. invariably, ND is always #1. i'm not kidding. their hatred for ND is unprecedented. i find it incredibly interesting that only one person in this survey actually cared enough to give them an honorable mention. i guess it shows what a huge group of losers those a-holes actually are.............

It takes both sides to have a rivalry- i remember when we were kicking u$c a%$ for 10 years, i stopped caring about them. Now that we have been getting the otherside of the whippings- they may feel the same.

When was the last time we played them before 2006? Was it the snow bowl in 1992? That was a 14 year layoff, rivals cannot take 14 years off.

Locally, same thing here- both sides have to take part in it- Boise State has beaten Idaho for the last 9 years, and most not even close, so that Idaho thinks they are a rival, but BSu looks to other schools.

Both teams have to think so, they have to play regularly, and they have to make it close. Navy doesn't count, but $c does.
