A media person (it sounded like Tim Prister) asked Weis about the Dana Jacobson comments. He responded that he was "personally and professionally offended". He went on to say that if it were reversed, two things would have happened to him. He would have been the lead story on ESPN and also he would have been fired.

I, as a fan, needed to hear that Weis was offended. I am glad that he responded like he did.

Guys.... the only reason Dana wasn't fired and this wasn't aired on ESPN was due to my full out efforts in this matter, please give me some respect.

Nice to see Charlie respond to this. I am sure he just wanted to wait after NSD to make any comments so they weren't an area of focus when he is trying to bring in new kids.

Gotta say, ESPN and Jacobson should really be ashamed and embarassed by this and I don't get the sense that either of them are too worried about her remarks. Its a shame that no one is held accountable anymore and a simple insincere "sorry" gets everyone off the hook.

He would have been the lead story on ESPN, but I doubt he would have been fired.

The coverage that ESPN would have shown, OVER AND OVER again, of this incident, and then on all the talk shows about "the ramifications".... this definitely would have lead to him being Fired...especially if he was drunk, slurring his speech, and acting like an idiot.

I simply don't agree. The administration has shown that it cares very little about the way stories are covered in the media. If they were willing to take the heat when they fired Ty, I believe they would have taken the heat over any kind of "Drunken Weis" incident as well, especially if he was to take steps to ensure those actions were never repeated.

I'm sorry Sergeant, but ND would be pushed into doing it. The TY incident you bring up, it was only AFTER they fired him that the media blitz happened. They had no choice at that point. What would they do? Rehire TY? They were then forced to push through the blitz and pretend not to care, not to hear the racial accusations against them.

This would be different. There is a target on Charlie, especially from ESPN, and ND would not be able to sweep this under the rug. I guarantee you shortly after, the whole Ty accusations would resurect in the argument and then ND would be forced to show that this University does not stand for what CW said, in this case saying F Touchdown Jesus. There would be no way to cover this up, and CW would be out the door.

Maybe 10 years ago, but there's a different dynamic at work in this country right now. Notre Dame would have options. They could suspend him while he attended rehab and sensitivity courses. He could be moved to another position within the Athletic Department.

Firing him over an incident such as the one involving Jacobsen also open the door to litigation. I don't know if Weis would sue his alma mater, but I think he'd certainly have a compelling case.

At the end of the day though, I think the incident grew to much larger than it should have been. Any adult who's been drunk more than once in their lives has said something stupid that they regretted the next morning. In this case, the comments were caught on tape and broadcast to the entire world. But I suppose their are some issues that will refuse to go away because people won't allow them to.
