Would I like to see it......YES. Simply because it would be fun to watch, and see how things go. However, I think it does not happen. IU needs someone younger and more in tune with todays kids, rather than a 70/80's kinda guy. Knight should retire with dignity, rather than try and make a point by going back to IU.

If IU gets the hit as hard as it sounds, they are going to be in rough shape for at least a few years. Scholarships lost, post season bans etc are not going to attract a top coach who also plays by the rules. I think getting Knight to weather that storm plus allow him to retire the way he should have would be perfect. THEN they can hire a modern type coach.

In a perfect world...perhaps.

Too many hard feelings with everything that's come out and everything we've seen the past few years.

To me it's not about Knight. It's more about the fact that rarely, if ever, does a coach succeed when he returns to the team that put him on the map. Following are some recent examples of failed 2nd tenures:

John Robinson @ USC
Bill Walsh @ Stanford
Johnny Majors @ Pitt
Joe Gibbs @ Washington Redskins

It just never seems to work out. Bobby is no longer a spring chicken & he wouldn't have his son to recruit for him. Just my opinion.

if they get the sanctions being talked about, I don't think anyone could help their recruiting for a few years. I don't think that there is a coach out there that is as good as what a program like Indiana wants that would come during the sanction period. So they need an interim coach. A strong one to keep the program from sliding into the abyss of UNLV. BK has about 2-3 years of coaching left in him. He wouldn't be a long termer.

There was a lot of ugliness after the firing. On both sides. As an IU grad, I was furious when they fired him but even more angry when they hired Sampson. who didn't see this trainwreck coming?
But Knight loved Indiana. He is the reason that program was always an example of how a program should be run. If he could put his hard feelings aside for the good of the program then i think folks on the other side should too. Indiana has just been humilated this week.

I think he would go for an interim coach until all this crap is over with for 6 months or so. Myles Brand isnt there, and plus, im sure he'd do it to spite Brand anyway... I would love to see him there and clean it up, hes never had an NCAA infraction...

Dick Vitale just said they should name the building after Knight:)

I agree wholeheartedly...the building should be named after Bob. I voted against his return on the poll though I'm sure the fans would welcome him back. He did his time at IU and the way it ended was a disgrace. From a conspiracy standpoint, maybe someone talked with Bob earlier and that's why he stepped down at TT? That would be delicious.

I was in the eighth grade when the Hoosiers won it in 1976. Watched every game that season and its still my fondest memory of college basketball. I was in school at IU when they won it in 1981 and attended many games in 1987 including the beat-down of Michigan on the way to Bob's third NC. Those days aren't coming back anytime soon.

IU is alot like ND, plenty of former glories but fallen on tougher times. I think Charlie has ND on the right path whether the NCs come or not. IU needs to find a simlarly superior coach who is in it for the long haul. The adminstration blew the Sampson hire and really cannot afford another screw-up. And that means better than Alford or some other retread.

yeah, although they did come up to Kalamazoo and beat western, and i went, and watched in the rain and hoped my broncos would come out on top, but they didnt. They are improving though. I was just brought up to like IU because my dad loved bob knight but loved ND football too.

My grandfather was a huge Notre Dame fan. He made sure we were all raised right. and if you grew up in Indiana, you were almost automatically an Indiana basketball fan unless you lived in South Bend or the region
