It was a ten minute meltdown, along with RUSH, HURRY THE SHOT, AND HEAVE AND HOPE FROM THE CHEAP SEATS. ND HAD this game. Then, down the last ten minutes, they shot the ball, on average, at least seven seconds earlier in each possesion than they had been, basically doubled the number of three balls they threw up, didn't make 'em (they shot UNDER TEN PERCENT, and ZERO for 9 from Three Land in the last ten minutes). And I didn't see the Coach of the YEar even TRY to slow them down. Hasn't this been the Achilles heeel of ND basketball for at least five years now? Hurry Heave and Hope?

PS UConn didn't exactly light it up during the ten minute meltdown either. They went 4 for 10 from the field. I think they MAY have one three in there. UConn didn't win this game. Notre Dame panicked, and LOST it.

Yeah the last 10 minutes were pretty pathetic. At least it was close. I guess I'm kinda disturbed at this point. We shouldnt have beaten Marquette last game as well because we didnt even score a single field goal the last 6 minutes of the game. How we won that is beyond me. And the last 10 minutes of the Uconn game aparently continued from the Marquette game. This team is too inconsistent. I dont know what to think at this point. We need to close the fucking game for crying out loud. GOD that irritates the piss out of me. It's fundamentals for crist sake.

NDOM, I crunched some numbers off the ESPN box score (although I did watch th game on TV). Listen to this!

First 30 minutes: ND 65. UConn 60.
ND shooting: 28/51 (55%) 1.4 shots perminute; 2.1 points per min
6/15 from threesville (that's a 3 ball evry two minutes)
NOT BAD

Last ten minutes: ND shooting: 2/22 (9%); 2.2 shots per miunte; 1.3 points per minute
1/9 from threesville) (almost one threeball a minute)

UConn was 4/10 in that last ten. NO big streak.

What happened? Same old story, as far as I'm concerned. They rush their offense. They DON'T wait and pass and work for a good shot. They Hurry, Heave and Hope. AND BREY WATCHES IT WITHOUT STOPPING IT. UConn didn't win this one. ND pissed it away.

Youre 100% right again. Notre Dame is known for pissing games away. Especially the close ones. This is a team that will never be better than a top 15 team. Every once in awhile they may be ranked but it will NEVER be in the top 15. Too inconsistent. Mediocrity at its finest.

let me be devil's advocate. shouldnt we be happy that we played competitively against what may be the best team in the big east in a hostile environment. considering our road trips to marquette and g'town, doesnt this show our marked improvement over the last month. and who is to say we wont keep getting better.

dont get me wrong, this hurts, we should have won and we blew it. just wanted to see what others opinion is on looking at this loss from the other angle.

Nothing wrong with being the devils advocate. But to answer your question see the "bolded" above. "we should have won and we blew it". Last game against Marquette we didnt make a SINGLE field goal in the last 6 minutes and its a miracle that we ended up winning that game. And the last ten minutes of the Uconn game we shot like shit... and see mbooch's post and it will tell you everything you need to know. This shit stems back to last years team. We lost to Winthrop in the 1st round...We lost 5 or 6 games that we should have won last year but we didnt because they shot like shit or relied too much on the 3 point shot. This is a mediocre team at best PERIOD! PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Just watch what happens when we play a few more big boys this year. I guarauntee that we will blow at least 3 more games that we should win. I want nothing more than to see this team win and be a better team but bottom line is that Brey just lets them play and doesnt call a timeout when he needs and he doesnt know how to make the proper adjustments. Since Brey has been here we have only been nothing but an average team who will finish 5th or 6th (maybe 4th) in the Big East and will struggle to get past the 1st round of the tourney and be lucky to get past the 2nd round. Just my opinion. Notre Dame does NOT know how to close a game. A blind man can see that.

well, at least we have more chances against some pretty good teams to prove ourselves. hopefully we can pull them out. like i said before i have doubted them too many times and have been proven wrong to give up now. i know its frustrating though.

We should not be happy about playing it close and losing. To take the next step, there should be no moral victories. I agree that we are blowing - and, almost blowing games at the end. We ignore it, for example, versus Marquette, because we won. I think this is a function of Brey's laid back personality. We are lacking the intensity needed to put teams away as a result of it.

i also hate to say it, but if you look at uconn's remaining schedule, i dont see a loss. so i see them finishing at 15-3 in league play. so it looks like it will probably be nd, louisville, and pitt fighting for 3rd and 4th and the last 2 byes in the big east tourney. luckily we are a game up on pitt and get them at home, so we are still in good shape for a bye.

I'm frustrated too guys and I hate to sound like such a downer about our team but it's reality. We need to be more intense at the end of games and stop relying on the 3 pointer. Give it gody in the middle and let him do his damage. He had 22 points in the first half I believe and only had 8 or 10 in the 2nd half. What does that tell ya? We should have stuck with what works and we didnt. We started to shoot the shit ball and they didnt drop. If you have success in the 1st half do the same damn thing in the 2nd half instead of changing things up like Brey did last night.

Harangody had 10 in the first half and 22 in the second half. They had a lot of good looks in the last few minutes, the shots just didn't fall. We're going to lose everytime we can't make shots. I don't think it was a problem with how we were playing, the shots just weren't falling for us.

Thabeet had 6 blocks in this game. Why is it this guy gets 6-15 blocks everytime he plays ND?

We must have watched a different game. I saw ND shooting off balance, from too far away, and WAY too early in the shot clock. This was a loss based on not getting good shots down the stretch. It wasn't just "bad luck". .
