Georgia seems to have stupid rulings anyway. It hasn't been that long since that 17 or 18 year old went to jail on statutory rape for having consensual oral sex with a 16 year old.

Teenagers do not think that way. It won't make a dent. We have lost several teens to drunk driving. They all do the "go to the site, cry, place flowers" etc and then the next weekend, party on.

Yep. I think he was sentenced to 20 years. There was another kid with the same situation who not only went to prison for 10 years but was a honor student and had a football scholly to Vanderbilt.

Our police here in my suburb are a little over zealous anyway. We were decorating for a booster club banquet once. The rental place forgot to turn off the silent alarm. This cop comes flying in with his gun drawn screaming at everyone to drop. Now, three moms and 5 kids in soccer uniforms holding balloons and spreading tablecloths in a banquet room should not look like a dangerous burglary in progress but he made his sit with our backs against the wall for 30 minutes WITH his gun drawn the entire time.

That's why people need to come up with creative punishments that'll really suck so next time they'll think twice before pulling something stupid.

Although I think drunk driving is very serious and it is somthing that should be cracked down on.

The teenage drinking just made me insane when my boys were in high school. It is a slap on the wrist around here. The parents even throw the parties or at least ignore them. And when the police do show up, they write tickets. That's it. The only way you go to jail is if you are charged with anything else. The parents are never charged with anything unless it is proven they knew the party was going on AND if they provided the alchohol. I think that is another reason this ticked me off about the severity of his charges.

Right down the street two summers ago, there was a huge party. One kid was very intoxicated and started yelling at the cop who finally showed up after being called many times by neighbors. The kid was put in the back of the squad car where he proceeds to kick out the side window.

No felonies there and he is now in college with his baseball scholly.

That's why they should always be refered to as fetuses when they pull stupid crap.

There are going to be a whole lot of kids that are going to be in for a major shock when they hit the real world with the way things are going these days.

I know I had/have parents/family that somewhat spolied and sheltered me just simply because they loved me and they want the very best for me, but now that I'm grown and look back at it, it probably would have been better for me in the loing term if they weren't quite so much that way. I'm just lucky I wasn't too bad. "Thankfully" my friends that I grew up with weren't so much that way since there were five boys. Plus there was another family with a few boys and we were all brutal to each other. Verbally and physically. We played full contact sports without pads, played forts/war with earch other and used the big green walnuts as amo, chased each other around the house and got in fights over video games scores and taunting, and all kinds of other crap like that. We've now elivated to shooting each other with air soft guns for no reason, but we still play full contact sports without pads, although we do usually wear mouth peices now. However we're still all hard on each other.

For instace when I ruptured my MCL and torn my miniscus this most recent time they all fell down laughing because I hurt my knee again and then after tying to keep it as loose as possible I still went out and played on it and threw 7 TDs, they were nice enough to eliminate any pass rush against me though.

I am in a graduate Juvenile Justice class currently... it cracks me up how much the 'rise' in juvenile crime has led to stricter inforcement... yet it is all really just cyclical... there is a rise in documented cases because of 'get tough laws' youth like these involved in this case are being arrested for actions that could be handled by parents just a few years ago.... so it looks like there is more juvenile crime so policy makers try to get even tougher... not too long ago a police officer responding to a call like this would take the kids home to the parents which in most cases would handle the situation....
