Found this on-line. Very interesting.

Here's a look at how the past 10 NFL head coaches hired directly from college programs fared in pro football.

Bobby Petrino Louisville, 2006 3-10 at Atlanta

Nick Saban LSU, 2004 15-17 at Miami

Dennis Erickson Oregon State, 2002 9-23 at San Francisco

Steve Spurrier Florida, 2001 12-20 at Washington

Butch Davis Miami, 2000 24-35 at Cleveland

Mike Riley Oregon State, 1998 14-34 at San Diego

Steve Mariucci California, 1996 59-41 at San Francisco

Rich Brooks Oregon, 1994 13-19 at St. Louis

Dennis Erickson Miami, 1994 31-33 at Seattle

Tom Coughlin Boston College, 1993 68-60 at Jacksonville

I honestly think it's ego more than money. The best college coaches are making $2-3M per season now. At some point you would think that enough is enough.

If you are happy at what you are doing and making $1M plus doing it, why change?

Coaches are always a season or two away from becoming a casualty. That's why recruiting is do or die. It's more money than ego. Why would any coach go to Miami? Or say Spurrier to the Redskins? You are right in some part, tho.
