umm nott trying to sound pessimistic here, but what gives. This guy is short, and lacks bulk. It's not like he's insanely fast either. A 4.5 is not absurd these days, you get bigger recievers who can run the same thing. So why did we offer him so early.

I honestly know nothing about this guy, enlighten me

idk about this guy, but Jeremy Maclin was also listed at 4.5 and I think he might be a hair faster than that.

Not every great receiver is 6'3 or taller. And guys can get faster with training. David Givens wasn't the most gifted receiver but in Weis' system he thrived. I don't doubt the our coaches' ability to judge talent. All I care about is they want to be at ND.

plus, he's 16 or 17 years old. he may keep growing!

I don't know a ton about this guy, bur from what I've been told he's quite the gamebreaker, but it'll probably be pretty hard to get him to leave the state.

I think he is one of those YAC guys. He makes the catch and gets all kinds of yardage after the catch!!! Kinda like a Hines Ward or Jerry Rice!!! Those guys are lethal after the catch!!!

He was the player who returned a punt for a td in the Notre Dame Shermon Oaks game on tv. He also runs alot colser to 4.4 and maybe even faster. He is a real burner.

Yeah. 4.5 seems to be a generic number they give out when they don't have a number. I imagine we would start getting "legit" 40 times after the Army All American Combine in January.

(this is not directed at anyone, just sharing my thoughts)

There was a great (as in heated, but not good) debate on another board I read from time to time about the legitimacy of 40-yd times. The electronic timed (at the NFL combines) vs. hand times vs. professional sprint times. I don't wish to ignite that debate here, but comparing 40-yd times is definitely not scientific and I don't think it tells us much about the athlete.

I want quality athletes that want to be at ND. Fit that description, and you're on board with me.

Well with the way Charlie and company have been recruiting the last few yrs. If they feel like he's goodenough to play for N.D. then who am I to argue.

Hmmm, I wonder which thread you are referring to??? Haha, pretty sure I already know.

you'll never get it out of me. ok, I am a sucker for reps. (spinner and stoney rubbing off on me I guess) :eek:grin:

Ha, no need to tell me as I was in the conversation you are refering to. It's that or I'm smoking crack and could be way off base here.

O.K. Lets get somethings straight, these 40 times are a joke anyways and I've seen these big guys that run a great 40 on a track but how does that translate to actual game play? IMO it usually doesn't.

These 40 times don't translate to running routes and how quickly the accelerate after making a cut, it doesn't take in quickness and YES there's a major difference between speed and quickness.

I've heard he's quick, fast and special and that listed 40 time means nothing because these databases and numbers that out there are usually not up to date because I remember last year a lot of the times given for Joe McKnight's 40 was 4.7

OK. I totally remember this kid. He is a teammate of Milton Knox and their game vs Notre Dame Sherman Oaks was nationally televised. He had a huge game. I think in addition to his punt return he had some great catches on slants. All BHS had to do was mix it up between getting the ball in his hands and handing it off to Knox. Their QB was nothing special either. If memory serves me, he is raw and had not been playing football too long. Memory has not always served me though. I am just racking my brain on this kid. With only room for 10-15 kids next year, we better be damn selective. WRs??? Better be 2 of the top 15 in the country, IMO.

I fully trust Weis to identify receivers who can fit his system, and with hard work, become major college stars.

Look at his New England Patriots WR corps -- the guy identified and coached 7th round pick and ND's own David Givens into a solid NFL player, and Deion Branch, a guy considered "slow" before the draft, into a Super Bowl MVP. Branch was a 3rd rounder.

There's two types of speed, straight line and football speed. I don't care if a guy can beat me in a 100 yard dash if I'm faster than him in pads. If this guy got an offer, Weis sees something that he feels will be able to help ND football on the field in the future.

Man, already?! So much for his first offer meaning a lot. They already have 8 commitments in next year's class 6 of which are in the 100, and one is a five star QB. They only two that aren't are Flournoy, and Marquis Simmons and they're both very good too and will most likely end up in the 250.

I know that class is going to be nasty. I think they could take 25-27, down right nasty

Yeah, they had a lot of early commits in this years early top 100, but some fell out like DJ Shoemate... im sure some of them arent what they are cracked up to be. Poodle is just making sure he keeps his talent in state, whether they are amazing (Barkley) or not so great.
