I don't know if those figures are accurate, but the passing defense wouldn't surprise me as being highly ranked. Most opponents haven't had to pass much, either because the run was effective or they were ahead and trying to run the clock out.

That is the first I have heard of us having a rush offense all year. Are you sure they play of Saturdays with the rest of the team?

As long as ND does not turn the ball over early this game won't be as close as many are thinking....Navy is not going to be even 1/2 as good on defense as Purdue...the same Purdue defense that surrendered over 460 yards to the Irish.

Sharpley is the wildcard here (and also one of the reasons I was a much bigger fan of playing Jimmy this week). I would look for huge days from Parris, Kamara, Tate and Allen. If Aldridge is healthy and playing the whole game he could break 100 yards for the second time this year.

Still, I simply can't shake the feeling that Evan is capable of blowing this game all by himself this week. All it would take is a couple of really dumb throws that get picked and the ND offense could start to hang their heads...he has not shown me that he is a leader capable of stopping the blood letting such mistakes would open this week. Not that Jimmy HAS shown that kind of leadership either - but he does not seem to throw as many head shaking passes either...

Stats are essentially meaningless when you have an ND team that has so little success on offense to fall back on this year. One of the biggest problems for the Irish this year (aside from o-line play, inexperience and coaching) has been the cumulative affect of the offensive woes to date. This has been pointed out by many, many observers - when things go wrong for ND this year they simply seem to get a lot worse instead of better. The team has no experience to fall back on, no instances of success (even the spurts vs. MSU and at PU ended in losses) to draw upon to stop the bleeding.

Last year (and the year before) the team not only had Brady and Shark and Darius and Co.; but they also had a wealth both winning and close losing (MSU 2005, USC 2005) experiences. They were able to draw on those experiences in tough times to produce some memorable moments - UCLA 2006, MSU 2006, even Tennessee 2005 is in this category - where they actually drew together and stopped the bleeding of horrible performances in time to eke out wins.

The question is can THIS Irish team find that same intestinal fortitude that the 2005 and 2006 teams had?

If the offense can put together a few scoring drives hopefull that will give them confidence that they can have success. But you're right, they could cause self-inflicted doubt by turning the ball over early.
