So he can't get a good education at any school on his list except for Notre Dame?

I mean, all three of his top schools are good schools. If he's willing to work(and he appears to have a great work ethic), he'll get a great education wherever he goes.

Getting a good education isn't about where you go, it's about what you put into it.

I agree with you that it's definitely possible, in principle and in practice, to get a good education at any of those schools. That said, there's a reason why - considerations of money and location aside - kids who want a good education prefer to go to, say, Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke, or Vanderbilt over, say, Florida, SC, and OSU. Hence the skepticism about his real motivations ...

I never said that. But if he cares about getting a good education there are plenty of MUCH better schools.

Florida ranks #49
Ohio State ranks #57

USC is a better school than those two: #27
ND is #19

Stanford, Northwestern, Vandy, Cal, UVA, UCLA...all are better than the three he has on his list.

So he's blowing smoke. He picked the 3 best football teams in his estimation. He is simply not telling the truth about his priorities.

That's not totally true. I agree that USC can give you the same level of education that ND can. But let's face it, better schools have more resources, better professors, and generally give a better level of education.

Etienne will be making his announcement on Nov. 13. He will be choosing between Florida, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Southern Cal.

If I had to guess I would say that he'll end up at either USC, Miami, N.Carolina, or Florida

Studies show exceptional students tend to do well no matter what university they pick among major American universities and that students who are supported well (through scholarships and academic services such as composition editing and math tutoring) tend to do better than those who are not well-supported. There is a strong relationship between the amount of money a university puts into these "Extras" and the level of improvement in a student in the 4-5 years they are there.

The bottom line is that if a student wants to take advantage of university, then at any major university in America he can do so.

Also, ranking a school globally is silly if you're that "serious" about education.

I also want to say that the big reason to attend Notre Dame is the alumni-base and connection to certain industries.

Etienne's HS teammate recieved an offer from Ohio State today, and he quickly accepted, thus intensifing the rumors that he and Sabino are a package deal. With Hale leaing toward WVU, and OSU having already lost out on Beal, and Filer it looks as though Cheaty McSweaterVest may have caved to get Sabino. If that wasn't enough Sabino just informed Miami that they're now out and he will be choosing between Ohio State, and USC. I'd be really suprised if he didn't end up at Ohio State.

Of course the major factor that brings ND down in these college rankings is relative lack of major corporate grant money coming into the graduate departments because they are smaller than many of the larger schools. Conversely, a school like Michigan's outstanding performance in the graduate realm and it's larger corporate funding bring it up in the college rankings.

Thus when it comes to solely undergraduates, I'd put ND above their USA today ranking, and put a Michigan lower. Actually, for undergraduate education I honestly wouldn't hesitate to put ND up in the top 5, what with class sizes, professors who are teaching oriented, etc. My graduate research here is well-funded corporately, but overall the grad school is mostly what brings us down in those rankings.

Stoney wins! Of course, I've actually never posted in that thread, it's not as much my style.

Word is out that Etienne gave his verbal to Tressel last weekend during his visit, and he will publically announce for them later today. It looks like the package deal rumors were true.

Not sure I agree about the package deal argument, but I saw ES to OSU coming from a mile away.

So I guess the fact that they just recently offered his high school teamate a week or two ago and he then verbaled very soon after is just a coincidence?

Reportedly he will pick up the sweatervest of his favorite team on national tv to announce where he will go....

But being serious, although you may have a point about the CB prospects buck - I do think this is at least partially a package deal.
