Guys,
I have heard from many guys this past week moaning that Charlie is not turning it around as fast as some coaches. Here is something to consider. When CW took over, we were at a point with our talent that has NEVER been experienced at ND. Although, other major universities have seen similar situations. Look at what Stoops did at Oklahoma, Poodle at SC, Callahan at Nebraska, Urban at Florida and dare I say Ty at Wash. There is one thing in common with all these guys. They filled voids and depth with multiple JC transfers. There is a big difference between bringing in an 18 year old Freshman and a 20year old in physical development. They go thru a huge maturity. With a 20 year old JC kid, he is physically capable of handling the beating. Consider these numbers.
Consider these numbers and how depth chart holes were filled.
Washington 2005 & 2006 there were 10 JC brought on to the roster. This is a fast way for Ty to fill the roster so he can golf more.
USC 2002 & 2003 the Poodle brought in 6 JC players. This helped jump start his program.
Florida 2003 & 2004 Zooker brings in 9 players which help Urban win title in 2006.
Oklahoma 2005 and 2006 Stooops brings in 8 JC players, amazing how they are all the sudden ranked number 3.
Nebraska 2004 and 2005 Callahan brings in 18, yes 18 JC players. No wonder they say he has a deep and talented team this year.
We all remember Oregon St. coached by Erickson who beat us so soundly in the bowl game. He turned that program into a power almost exclusively with JC kids.
My point in all this is that via the JC manner, a coach can turn a program in less time than it will take for CW. I appreciate the way we handle the ND program and do not want to go down the path of others, but doing so will require a bit more patience. We cannot simply plug holes with JC kids as other tend to do. Imagine where we would be this year with just 2 JC talents on each side of the ball. A DL body. A stud LB. On offense, a big and fast WR and one monster tackle.
Keep the faith!!!! We will be back on top again soon.
