The new "doomsday defense"

Today I heard the most interesting description yet of Notre Dame's defense, from senior cornerback Ambrose Wooden.
“Every day you go out, you try to focus on certain things, try to get better at certain things and Coach Brown and Coach Lewis they just help out, and (so do) all the guys around you," Wooden said. "It’s like a family, it’s like a cult. We’re just all together trying to focus on one goal.”
So I guess you could say the defensive players are definitely drinking the Kool-Aid. (Sorry.)
Anyway, Wooden and senior linebacker Maurice Crum said they're encouraged by the progress that's been made on their side of the ball and are looking forward to putting this new-look defense on display in just over a week.
Wooden not only sees improvement, he senses it.
“If you’re out at practice, you can just feel it. It’s so intense," he said. "When you go through those bag drills, it’s just so high-tempo, high-pace. Everybody’s just so focused on getting better that day. The sky’s the limit. I think a lot of guys can see that right now.”
Crum said the difference is evident not only in the team's play, but in its mindset.
“Just our attitude overall is changing and we’re starting to realize what we bring as an individual and starting to put that together so we can play as a unit," Crum said.
Training camp can be a wearying experience for the players, but now that the Irish are game-planning for Georgia Tech, Crum said he has "a little more juice in the tank."
He even dreamed recently about running out of the tunnel on gameday.
"So you know it's coming," Crum said of the Sept. 1 season opener.
