Ripken took a single day off after setting a record for not taking days off. Bonds takes more days off every week than Cal did in years.

Yeah, it's easy to do that when you take steroids.

Fellas I'm not a Bonds fan but it's hard to ignore these numbers, which apparently don't have this seasons stats computed into them yet. The numbers are fairly similar except for hits to BB and stolen bases. Bonds did win 8 gold gloves to Aaron's three and he has 7 MVP's to Aaron's 1.

Is Bonds a piece of garbage? Sure he is. But these numbers dont lie and like it or not these numbers arn't going anywhere.

If the numbers werent tainted I could respect him....this is coming from a former huge McGwire fan....as a kid I collected every McGwire card I could get my hands on...I had the same batting stance as McGwire(with very different results) and it killed me when he pretty much stonewalled in front of the government commitee...I lost all respect for the guy.... I have a hard time understanding how anyone who respects baseball can respect Bonds

The common argument that I keep hearing in defense of Bonds is that steroids don't help him hit homeruns or they don't help with his eye-hand cordination. However, I don't think many people are arguing that Bonds isn't a powerful hitter or has a good eye, yet the fact remains that by taking the steroids, Bonds enabled himself to recover faster in order to keep his arms and legs strong enough to blast out 73 and enabled him to be able to bomb homeruns at the age of 42.

Its very true that taking steriods aren't going to make you hit a ton of homeruns if you are the average guy, however a narcosistic jacka** can stay in the game long enough with the aid of steriods in order to break a sacred record.

Sorry for the rant, I just am getting more and more upset with how close Bonds is coming to breaking Hank's record....three more and it wil be a very dark and sad day for baseball.

Not saying that I do respect Bonds but you still have to go out and hit the ball thats what it comes down to. Are his numbers obscured sure they are, but I just disagreed that Aaron was the more complete player.

I agree that that Bonds could have been considered a more complete player...however when you are altering who you are to the extent that Bonds could have it is hard for me to not weigh that in heavily. Yes, he still must hit the ball....however...more ground balls may have passed through...more balls in to the gaps...more stolen bases...his body not wearing down like other players his age...could he have been greater than Aaron, absolutely however there are way too many things he has brought upon himself to put that in question

I just don't understand why he did it though. I could if it was some guy who was really struggling and needed to have a big year to stay on the ball club, but he was arguably the best player in the game before this. I guess it depends on when he started using also. The sad thing is that they are reporting that there are other types of steroids that are undetectable by testing right now. The game is tainted and when it will stop, who knows?

He did it because he is a selfish jackass. He realized it could help him get into the spotlight more often. He used to be a 30/30 guy, which is one of the most under appreciated achievments in baseball, but one of the most beneficial to teams. He no longer cared about his team or teammates and decided it would benefit him more to be a spotlight guy. Its a shame, sports have become so much more driven by personal achievment than team achievement.

I think he's an ass. He should apologize for cheating, leave baseball, and never darken the doors of a stadium again. I say all this and I don't even follow or enjoy baseball that much.

People mock me for following cycling, but at least they are trying to do something about the doping problem. Doping tests and penalties in American sports are a joke.

I used to really dislike the Patriot's, until I found out that they were one of the few counterexamples of this in sports. Now I can't help but cheer for them.
