-----Mike Hart is all power back and nothing else. Also I don't think USC, Auburn and many others would've offered him if they thought his talent wouldn't cross over to college. It's usually college players who don't translate into the NFL well.

That's what I thought. So in that respect, he probably won't be like Hart and has more of a chance to be like Reggie Bush.

I think the translate part is getting taken out of context here, sure he will be able to play at the next level but I don't think what we see on his films is the type of player that he will be at the next level.

As for Mike Hart, well alot of people thought he wouldn't amount to nothing coming from New York and playing in class D - the lowest conference that state has. But there were some that liked Hart alot and who did the compare him to? Barry Sanders is who, his highlight films look very similar to Calton Thomas but when he got to UM he adjusted to way the game is played and was an impact freshman that went from being a flashy Barry Sanders type into the RB he is today. I'm just pissed that a good kid like that would go to UM.

The point is while he may be a quality college RB I wouldn't say that he would be the same type of RB that we see while he's playing HS ball.

Notre Dame, Auburn, Iowa, Rutgers Clemson and I GUESS you can throw in WVU in there too. Those are his main schools he's focusing on right now. See who is missing? USC, I guess him wanting early playing time is the reason for that at least he is the only smart one that can see that. Our staff says he could definently see the field as a freshman. He says he'll probably take all of his officials. All these RB's that we are targeting (Cyrus, Williams, Thomas) are not deciding anytime soon and that might leave them left out because we could be up to 19 committments by the end of next week and after that (Floyd) could be 20!

Thomas excluded USC because of the distance. I think Auburn is a real big player here.

Carlton just visited Georgia and Clemson. He already puts both in his top 5. But I believe those are the only visits he's been on. He's going to Auburn on July 14th and hopes to take an official visit to Notre Dame this fall.

CT says we're his favorite and recruiting him the hardest. I knew this all along and Scout never wants to put us as high interest. But for some reason about only a week ago he was favoring two other schools? I don't think so. He wants to decide in Oct.

Scout now has Notre Dame at high interest for Carlton. Also is looking to come up in September for the MSU game.

my question about thomas is how come no offers from fla.,miami,and fsu? he really only has 4 offers from the big boys - usc,nd,georgia, and auburn.

as i said he has offers from ONLY 4 BIG TIME PROGRAMS! HOW COME NOT MORE BIG TIME PROGRAMS HAVE OFFERED?

If you seek the truth, bust open your gumball piggy bank, go down to the bank and get a money order...send it off in care of Rivals or Scout or any of the other rip off artists...and hopefully they'll be able to help you.

I'm not sure if anyone on this board could speak on behalf of the 3 Florida schools. (besides, what does an offer from Florida really mean anyways?)

However, you should have faith in the coaching staff's ability to recognize talent. Last year I don't think that Kerry Neal had many big time offers when he committed, but the staff went after him HARD. Same thing with Dever and you could find a long list of others.

Rockne, you asked this same question about 6 pages ago in this thread, and this was my answer back then, and my opinion has not changed on the subject. I'll post it again, so you don't have to go back and find it. It may not be the correct answer, or the one you are looking for, but it's the best explanation I can come up with.


Don't forget that Thomas is a little bit of a "diamond in the rough" though and I do not give much credit to the Cockwad in recognizing these type talents. Usually, he just plays follow the leader, and he may still offer Thomas, probably after he commits somewhere else. I'm not so sure about Miami & FSU though, they do not throw offers around like Urban, and for Miami especially Thomas does not fit their typical RB mode. FSU also may not waste an offer because they figure in the end they would not be able to compete with Florida, much less ND & USC for Thomas. Don't forget that Thomas comes from Polk County which is hard-core Gator country. The other Florida schools do not do well there in recruiting.

IUB makes a great point. Hype plays into much of the recruiting scene and if offers aren't made fast quality player can slide into the shadows. I am a firm believer that there aren't a whole lot of programs that a very successful with in-depth player research and in their defense there really isn't much time to do that with all the players nationwide and all the other programs shooting for top tier guys. I think its very easy for coaches to run after guys that have the big news attached to them, which means for those kids that aren't super hyped they may not recieve a ton of offers. Look at all the quality guys that have seeming fallen through the cracks of major program recruiting and turned into stars. Recruiting is an incredibly difficult process that promises nothing in terms of on-field success. So I am sure for every over-hyped recruit that has received tons of offers from all the big schools and has fallen flat in his career there is an under the radar guy who proves to be a vital asset to the team that researched and recruited him.
