ESPNU All-American Game in Orlando in January

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recru...ory?id=2915873

Joe Montana, Emmitt Smith and John Elway all jubilantly said they were going to Disney World after winning the Super Bowl. This January, the nation's best high school football players will head there too for the first ESPNU High School All-American Game.

Says No. 1 prospect Julio Jones about his senior season, "There is no such thing as the perfect game, but I am striving to have one."
The game will air nationally on Jan. 5 on ABC at 2 p.m. ET. The nation's top two prospects, Foley High School (Ala.) wide receiver Julio Jones and St. Peter's Prep (N.J.) versatile quarterback Will Hill, are among the players who have agreed to play in the game so far.

"It is both exciting and overwhelming," said Jones, who last year caught 75 passes for 1,306 yards and 16 touchdowns.

"It's fun -- it lets people around the country get a feel for who I am as a player," said Hill, who last year led his team to the N.J. state championship. "I won't pay too much attention to the cameras though."

That won't be an easy task. Besides the game itself on ABC, ESPNU will televise the week's practices and ESPN2 will air a special skills competition on Jan. 4. Players will hone their skills against the nation's best, and fans will get a glimpse of the college and NFL stars of tomorrow.

"It's very important to find out just what your talent level is when facing the best players available," said Hill. "It lets me know what I need to do to get better."

Will Hill will choose between Florida, Florida State, USC, Maryland, Michigan, Miami, Rutgers and Virginia.

"It is very important to compare myself against the best players at each position and I really want to prove myself against the top cornerbacks," said Jones, who last year had 137 yards and two touchdowns in a matchup against LSU signee Phelon Jones.

ESPN Scouts Inc. will select the 75-80 players who will participate in the game.

"Both Jones and Hill are as good as we've seen," raved ESPN.com and Scouts Inc. national recruiting director Tom Luginbill.

"Julio Jones is a freak at wide receiver. Over the last three classes, there hasn't been an offensive player as physically dominant as he is at wide receiver. And Will Hill is fun to watch -- simply a big play waiting to happen."

Wide receiver A.J. Green helped Summerville High School (S.C.) to a 12-1 record last season.

Forty players have already been selected, including other star prospects like Van High School (Texas) running back Jermie Calhoun, an Oklahoma commit, and Summerville High School (S.C.) wide receiver A.J. Green, a Georgia commit. The remaining players will be nominated during the upcoming high school football season, giving players who have big senior seasons a chance to participate.

"We look forward to growing this all-star game into one of the country's premier sporting events for amateur athletics, while also giving even more prep athletes an opportunity to showcase their talent on a national stage," said Burke Magnus, vice president and general manager, ESPNU.

While they gain unprecedented national exposure, the players also stay at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex, take a trip to Disney World, enjoy a New Year's Eve celebration in Orlando, view the BCS Championship Game together and participate in an awards banquet.

Right - It's very difficult to shamelessly plug Disney on ESPNU. I wonder if the game MVP gets to go on rides with Mickey Mouse.

Everyone needs to go out and get DishNetwork. Both Channels come basic in their 180 plan...Hell, I got Dish specifically to watch the Air Force debacle on CSTV! :)

That may eventually happen, but at least for the next few years all that will happen is that the individual games will weaken.

Last year when Rivals teamed up with Offense-Defense, there was a somewhat limited impact on the Army game (cause theO-D game got launced kind of late). Now with an Army game, the Offense-Defense game (which interestingly was carried by the U last year), and now the ESPN game all at about the same time, I expect that this will lead to another stage of recruiting.

The AA game has already announced that Pryor and Scott are committed for the game, and they will be a big draw because they are the established game right now. However, with Thrill and Jones committing to the ESPN game, I smell a debacle as these games start clogging recruits' emails&cellphones with messages to play in 'their' game.

On the bright side, it will give more recruits a chance to play in this kind of format......you just won't get the absolute best against the absolute best!

It says on scout that Arthur Brown will be playing in the Army All American game. Does anybody know where to find a list of the commits to either game?

Scout will eventually provide a list of the participants (doesn't seem that they are tracking them yet); also, the bowl site - U.S. Army All American Bowl - WELCOME - will have the information soon (but they still have last years info listed)

Got an inference from a Scout teaser that Dayne Crist has an invite to the Army AA game (they reference the premier high school all star game). Irish may have a load of players at the various (3) games (based on current status/ranking). IMO this is the potential breakdown:

Very High probability
Crist
Rudolph
Blanton
Clelland
Johnson
Fleming
Newman (highly ranked on Scout)
McDonald
Cwynar (gotta believe that Lemming picks him for the Army game)
Slaughter (Lemming likes Jamoris)
Cave (highly ranked C in Scout and Rivals)

Good Probability
Hunter (will need to climb a little; not sure why he is ranked where he is)
Fauria
Golic (#4 rated C in Rivals - shot at the O-D game)

Maybes
Goodman
Posluszny (with a comeback from injury)

Unlikely
Williams (not a high profileright now; but lot's of time left)

On top of these guys, we may still get Floyd (Lock for a game), McCarthy (pretty much a lock), Filer (Lemming would pick him for Army game)

I already know Cave is playing in the ESPNU one...and Hafis was Rivals 2nd team All American this year. They haven't seen a shred of film on him which is why he has a 3* ranking. Kids an absolute beast.

I have edited my earlier post....meant to indicate my comments were based on current status (with the exception of Poz).

Have you seen Hafis play?? 'cause he is the one guy that I have seen absolutely nothing on. I don't really care about the rankings per se, 'cause CW/CB wouldn't have gone hard after Hafis if he didn't have 'it'.

The only thing the exposure does is potentially limit his opportunity to play in an all-star game. But, there is still several months of play before they lock down all of the spots.....

------No I haven't see him play, but I know the school he plays for and it's a very good football school. I've heard alot about him how he is relentless and just takes over games.
