Jordan Futch is another Top 100 LB recruit from South Florida who may receive an offer shortly from the Irish. Futch falls into the category of Forston, Hunter, Shugarts, etc., who many expected to commit immediately upon being offered by their favorite school. In Futch’s case, like Forston, the lock school was supposed to be Miami. However, Futch also has not signed on with the “U” despite Hurricane fans saying that it is a done deal. Futch lists ND as one of his favorites, after Miami, in every interview that he gives, and he is in fact planning an unofficial visit to South Bend in May, even without an offer currently in hand. He has also said that he hopes to make a decision in late May, after his visit to ND.

Jordan has two connections to Notre Dame, he is from the same high school as 2007 ND recruit, Emeka Nwankwo, and he is best buddies with 2008 ND offer and fellow Rivals 100 South Florida LB, Etienne Sabino. It appears that Futch & Sabino will be making unofficial visits together to USC, (who has also not offered him yet), Florida & ND in the next month and a half. Futch’s official offer may be waiting on a decision by one of the other Irish offered LB’s such as Hale or Sweat to make their verbal commits elsewhere.

In a story posted today by Mike Farrell, Futch is quoted as saying that he has an ND offer. This has yet to be verified elsewhere, and even Rivals who usually adds anyone to the ND offer list if they say they have one, has not yet added Jordan to their posted list. An interesting development, if true, because of the Jordan Futch/Etienne Sabino dynamic.

In the same article, Futch lists Miami, Florida, & Wisconsin has his current favorites.

According to a Cane site, Futch is close to making a decision (as early as May 19), which if true, would seem to indicate both that he does not have an ND offer, and that he has no plans to visit South Bend.

A caveat on this news is that the guy reporting is pretty notorious for saying that recruits are Hurricane locks, and he fully expects that if Futch makes an announcement in the next few weeks, that it will be Miami. He is the same guy who virtually guaranteed Cane fans that Marcus Forston would commit to Miami at their Spring Game, so anything he reports has to be taken in that light.

One thing that does appear to be consistently happening based on recent reports about Futch and Sabino is that they no longer appear to be coming across as a recruiting tandem, possibly because Sabino continues to pick up higher profile offers than Futch. Sabino in addition to having an Irish offer is also holding offers from USC, OSU, & LSU, none of which has offered Futch. Also, there seems to be a growing consensus based on unpublished "inside info" (how wonderful) that Sabino is a heavy UNC lean, and Rivals now lists UNC as the only school of "High Interest" in Sabino's profile.

Bottom line does not look promising for the Irish on the Sabino/Futch trail, and given the uncertainty on the status of all of the other Irish offered LB's, I am a little surprised that we have not seen any new offers recently for LB prospects. The most likely reason for that is either the Irish apparently have no interest, (e.g. Jon Major) or they do not want to make an offer to a LB who might accept on the spot (Brett Nagel?) until they are sure where Filer, Sweat, & Beal are heading. All of which means that there may be little activity on the LB front for the next few months which I am sure will be the cause for much anxiety on the Irish message boards.

Now that the Sweat thing is finally over now we can make an offer to this man right here. If he is to get an ND offer it'll probably be this week don't you think?

The only thing about Futch is that he is another one who was supposed to be a Miami lock. They expected him to commit at the end of his spring football practice on May 19, but it never happened. Maybe Nwankwo is in his ear to hold off a little longer to see if he can get an ND offer, but this kid isn't going to lose sleep over not having one with his offer list, and if an offer is not coming soon, it does not seem that ND would have much of a chance here, if they have any at all to begin with.

I would not mind a Sabino, Futch package deal to wrap up LB recruiting.

No more offers.

Filer or Sabino or bust.

I don't disagree with that, and I think it's unlikely that Futch will get an offer, but what about Hale, didn't you see that ND is now in his Top 4. Ha Ha, we might as well be in his Top 100.

Filer and sabino are the 2 only realistic shots left, but dont u think putting another offer out there to futch or whoever continues to put the heat on others to decide. "If your looking we are looking"

I think the "if you're looking we're looking" applies to guys who have committed and then gone on other visits.

Uncommitted prospects are, of course, "looking". They haven't decided their choice yet. The ND Staff, of course, is "looking", because we want to fill our class.

I don't see why we wouldn't offer Futch or some other LB. We are playing a #'s game and every recruit that receives an offer from Weis has had that made aware to them. Weis told Newman don't worry, take your time but if spots start to fill up I will call you to let you know. Same goes with LB recruiting, first come first served. We can't just sit around hoping for Sabino or Filer. What if both don't come here? Then we have 3 LB commits and we're yelling "Why did we put all out eggs in one basket?!" Filer, Sabino and whoever else gets an offer will be aware of the situation and spots filling up it's up to THEM to not let that happen.

Looks like Futch is keeping his options open as he is planning on taking a lot of unofficial visits this summer, and now appears unlikely to commit until September at least. No word on whether ND is one of his stops, but either way it is good news because if he is a Plan B LB, it gives the staff more time to decide whether he is a potential offer.

Is this opinion or fact?

It's his opinion. The idea is full court press on those two guys this summer and if one of them wants that final LB spot, they get it. If they don't there will be plenty of time for plan B. For all of our anxiety, it IS still only June.

I doubt there is anything on the horizon. Neither of those guys appear to be near a decision.

Scoop, it's easy to get happy feet right now as a ND fan cuz of ND's success in recruiting so far this year. Everyone just keeps wanting more and more, but u're right, it's only June and we have 14 commits, I never thought I'd say that!

Typical, 2 days ago he said he was planning on taking all kinds of unofficial visits this summer, today he commits to Miami.

-------Good Miami rack up all that instate talent and FSU. UF is gettin rocked early on and hopefully can't poach after a slow start this season.

Another recruit thats on defense for Miami, so what's new. They'll have a good defense but we all saw how well they did last year with a good "D".

Good for him. He should be a fine LB at Miami. Wish him all the best.

If we didnt' already have 3 LBs signed up, I'd be really worried about putting all our eggs in one basket again, but I feel much better this year. For the record, I hope and think we'll get them both (just my opinion)

--------Theres one spot left at LB with a few offers out. It's not really putting all our eggs in one basket if we're in good position with all of them. It's time to be picky, we've been spoiled with a commitment every week since february.
