Garrett was on Power Hour last night, and had a very nice interview. He said he would like to decide by the start of his Sr. season, and it looks like it is going to come down to a three-way battle between Michigan, Ohio State, and ND. He has already visited many different schools recently, and many more have interest in him, but those are the three he would like to visit one more time before he decides.

I think those three are his leans, but based on the way he sounded, I don't think he's down to three. I think other big ten teams like Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin aren't out of this thing yet. Wild card being Arizona State. But the three you mentioned gipper sound like they have the best shot, I agree.

Alex (Gary, Indiana): Darius, how involved are you with recruiting? Are you trying to get any prospects to commit to ND? Welcome to the family...

Darius Fleming: (3:12 PM ET ) Steve Filer. He's a great player. I would love for him to come to Notre Dame. And also Brandon Newman from Louisville. He's a really cool guy. He would fit in. Garret Goebel I'm at camp with him right now. I'm looking forward to playing with him. ......whhaattt???

Garrett would be a great addition to this class. I think he would be a great fit for ND.

You could be right about the 18th or 19th. I just saw he was visiting south bend at the end of the month, so i just assumed it was around the 31st. It would be nice to see Goebel and Newman on the line together!

Garrett is now up to 22 offers. They include Penn State, Virginia, Iowa State, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Miami, NC State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Arizona State, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, and E. Michigan

ND appears to be in his top four along with Michigan, Ohio St., and Miami given this quote from Garrett.

"I'm going to work with my Dad this summer. I'm also looking at taking some unofficial visits this summer to a handful of schools. I know for sure that I'm heading down to Notre Dame on May 30th. I'm also looking at trying to get out to Ohio State and Michigan and maybe Miami (Fla.) if I can. I'm also looking at going to a few summer wrestling events this summer."

I heard Pocic handled Goebel pretty well at the Maine South QB 1 Camp last weekend.

Goebel is the hottest Illinois prospect right now among the undecided recruits.

Already has been stated that he will visit this month and will visit OSU and UM before deciding this summer. That basically spells out his top 3 right there.

The blurb on Irish Eyes is that he had a very good showing at camp this past weekend. I could definitely seem him as a DE in our scheme and I hope he commits.

I think we stand a great chance of getting him. Michigan and OSU will have a good shot at him, but he comes from a Catholic league - this could easily end up like a Sean Cwynar instance.

So a trip to SB tomorrow and a return visit to our camp? hmm sounds good to me. He'd wrap up our D-line recruiting for this year( not including holding out for a guy like Forston.)

I hope at that point he commits to ND, I really want this kid.

I'm with you Ricochet. We've already got the prototype NG ... maybe even the last two years with Newman and Ian Williams. Goeble is a DE in the 3-4, a different type of guy. After watching his film and reading reviews of his work, I think this is the guy who we really need on the D line. I know a lot of folks are talking about Hunter and Forston, but I think Goeble is the guy we really want this year. That may be overstating what you said, but that's what I think.

The way I see it is more the merrier especially with ND missing out on most of the DL targets the past couple of years but I still want ND to get Ethan Johnson for DE as well and there is no way I pass up Forston either but Goeble is impressive and a good fit IMO.

Never mind. I have since found out that he declined his invitation because he'll be at O$U for part of that weekend.
