this is semi-old news, but I just thought I'd make it known. Ruth got traded from Detroit to the San Antonio Silvers Stars for Katie Feenstra. I think in a lot of ways, this was Detroit trying to clear up cap room.

Ruth won two championships with Detroit, including one last year, and was the Finals MVP in 2003. She also won a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics.

San Antonio isn't a very good team, but perhaps Ruth will be able to help them turn it around. She had a somewhat scaled back role the last few years in Detroit due to being surrounded by a bunch of very good players. I'm hoping that she'll be able to take up more of a superstar role again in San Antonio.

btw, there should be a WNBA logo section. I would buy one:)

well, this is the Irish hoops section. and I see nothing for Irish hoops alumni, so here it is. and last time I checked, Ruth Riley is a pretty big name in ND basketball history.

She is? I've never heard of her. As the case for most female basketball players.

Relax man, wasn't questioning your manhood or anything..just shocked to see a womens basketball comment going on

look down a little bit. there are plenty of other threads about women's basketball. and during the soccer season, there were plenty of threads about the women's soccer team.

and as for Ruth, she was the Naismith Player of the Year in 2001 when ND won the national championship.

and finally, you shouldn't assume that everyone here is a man.

I was disappointed that she got traded. I thnk she was one of the greatest players ever at ND. On the Shock she was definately my favorite, but lately she hasn't scored as many points as she used to and she fouls out of most every game. While I still enjoy watching her play I think Detroit will be fine without her. I always think of how she made those clutch freethrows in the National Championship. That made me wish I could play ball for ND, but I was short and couldn't dribble.
I appreciate this because I didn't know about it. The Shock is my favorite WNBA team. Thanks for writing this don't listen to those other guys .
