I can't wait to hear all the Pete Carroll to SD talks.

Wow this is pretty shocking, but if they do interview him, he would really have to take a real hard look at this job. Whoever takes over this team will be sitting pretty, much like Switzer taking over for Johnson.

I am surprised he was let go...I know that didn't go to the super bowl ,but I thought he did a good job.

I don't want Carroll to leave just yet. ND has some unfinished business w/ him & the Trojans & I don't want him walking away w/ a 5-1 record vs. the Irish (incl. 2-0 vs. Weis coached teams). ND may take a few ass whoopings before this happens, but it'll be worth it to see the look on Carroll's face when ND finally gets the best of them. And if it happens soon, the odds are (based on SC's stockpile of talent) that the Irish will continue to be the underdog, so an upset victory over the poodle will make it that much sweeter.

I know where your coming from but for our football future, I want Poodle out. He is a hell of a recruiter and he will continue to be as long as he's at SC. He relates to these recruits and it will not stop. He got like 6 5 stars this year! I want him out and I want to beat SC not the coach! I hate Poodle as much as u but he is recruiting big time talent on both sides. I'm not saying we can't recruit as good as him, it would just help us get the upper hand in recruiting and not worry about Poodles BS.

Wow, I'm shocked. Can't really see the upside to this one. I can't think of ANY coaches of his caliber that are looking for jobs. Looks like a kneejerk reaction and probably a detrimental move down the line.

So you would like ND to 1-2 vs. USC in the next three years, just to get that one victory? I know where you're coming from, we don't really want to back down, but I think it's a bit of a different situation than that.

I saw this thread and said to myself, "No way. Somebody's pulling a mean joke here."

And then I saw this:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=ArYxxej3wol78V6KVJO9iLA5nYcB?slug=jc-marty021207&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

Long-story-short, it came down to an argument between Marty and San Diego's GM A.J. Smith over the hiring of a new defensive coordinator. Marty wanted one guy, Smith wanted another, and the argument got so bad that Smith gave Marty the boot.

Wow. Just wow. A little bit of ego can cause a LOT of trouble sometimes.

ProFootball.com is, indeed, reporting that Pete Carroll is a "done deal" to replace Marty Schotttenheimer as coach of the Chargers.

Profootball.com looks like a clothing place!? Where'd you read it on there?

Wow. Not the smartest move creating a vacancy at head coach this late in the game. You leave your newly hired HC with sloppy seconds and little time when it comes to filling his staff. In my opinion the more rational move (since they didn't can him earlier on) would have been to wait it out for another year, giving ol' Marty one more shot at Marty-ballin' his way into the big one while in the meantime finding his replacement.

To quote a guy on the radio in my hometown this morning... can you imagine being Jerry Jones right now? "DAMMIT!!! If I'd just waited TWO LOUSY WEEKS I coulda had Marty instead of this no-name!" :smilewink

Well Mr. No Name if he stayed with the Chargers would've been the head coach and would have a team alot better off than the Cowboys, so I bet Wade is kicking himself in the ass.

With all the recruiting violations under investigation, this might be a good time for Caroll to leave. And yes, his leaving should make it a little easier to recruit in CA.

Carrol to SD sounds like pure speculation to me. Anyone verify that other than profootball.com??
Not real varification but the local sports radio station in Boston is saying the same thing. They might just be reading the profootball.com but it is worth a note. Seeing as how they are the #1 rated in the country.

Pete leaving usc might not be that bad of an idea from his standpoint. With all the trouble brewing (though mostl likely going to blow over) and the great team at SD. That said here are my three reason he will stay at usc.
1 Money: SD is paying MS 4 million to walk away. How much are they going to be willing to pay Pete? He feels he is a highliner and will want big bucks.
2 The GM. San Diego's GM fired MS because they could not get along. Pete wants full control.

3 He sucks. In the NFL PC has a terrible record. He was handed a New England team coming off a Super Bowl and turned them into losers. As soon as PC leaves NE what do you know Super Bowl champs. San Diego is almost the same cituation.

Although, that might be a reason for him to go back--to show that he can coach in the NFL. And as a note, the NE team that Carrol inherited was coached by Bill Parcells, and the coach that came after Carrol was another pretty good coach that worked with Charlie Weis.

I just can't believe PC would leave USC. What does he have to gain? He's going from being one of the most successful college coaches in recent history to what? Longer hours, a little bit better pay, (which probably hardly matters) and for sure he's gonna have a harder time winning. From all I know of the poodle, this just doesn't make sense.

Of course who am i to disagree with profootball.com?

How about Carroll Head coach Urban O.C.? That would be awesome. New recruits everywere crying.

The recruits wouldn't be crying nearly as hard as their poor players. Poodle was an AWFUL head coach with the Jets, Urban's system will NOT work against NFL speed, and that rah-rah bullshit doesn't cut it in the pros.
