I know he is super annoying, and can be repetitve with his catch phrases, but I LUV him!
(plutonicly of course) . Some of the announcers for ND in the past on NBC have been kinda dry and not so interesting. At least he brings it every night, which is more than most do (except marv albert- sic ).

He can get really, really annoying, but I still like him. I like the passion.

Thats how I feel. Annoying. But i think he's alright most of the time. Love the passion he has for the game, and he just seems like an all around good guy.

I think he's had a couple kids go to ND.

and a couple son-in-laws, including former Irish QB Tom Kruger. He spoke at a pep rally this year and obviously really, really loves ND. Apparently he has a fund that provides scholarships to some band members, cheerleaders, and the leperchaun. It was a good pep really. Digger, Dickie V, and then Paul Hornung with his pants incident.

Yeah, both of his daughters went to ND, and they both married guys from ND. He admits that he's a fan of Notre Dame and Duke because he thinks they both do things the right way, and they do it with class.

Yep, he was out for Penn State (and a couple other games if I remember right). This was gameday outside the Basilica:

Yeah, I think he's pretty cool, but his voice gets annoying. If he weren't an ND fan, I'd dislike him more than John Madden. I think his daughters went to ND, I saw at the Washington State game a couple years ago with his grandchildren.

He can be annoying but at least he comes through as being sincere & not taking himself too seriously. There's no doubt that he loves colleg b'ball & all sports for that matter. You never hear him say anything negative. Corso seems to be his college football counterpart but, IMO, is cornier b/c I don't believe he's as knowledgable about the coaches & their teams as much as Vitale is. Dickie V makes it a point to do his homework and may be bias towards a few institutions but I don't think it affects his picks as much as Corso. Vitale at least acknowledges his biases. Corso comes across more as following popular opinion for the day & is only fully knowledgable (that's a stretch) on his favorites, like Florida St. He considers saying "closer than the experts think" as going out on a limb. But I'm bias too & Vitale likes ND & Corso (& the rest of ESPN) do not like the Irish so that definitely influences my opinion since ESPN favors ND about as much as CNN favors conservatives.

I think the not taking himself too seriously is the key thing.

Also, if I remember correctly, one or both of his daughters played tennis for the Irish. I know for sure one did.
