Wow! Very impressive class! I can only imagine if we pulled in a class like that...global warming is the only way we will be able to compete with these schools in the great climates. Soon it will be too hot in Flordia and 70 all year round in Indiana...scarey thought!!!
The fact that Wright was so turned off by the ND weather was hilarious to me. I'm not dogging the guy, but at least think of a better reason than that. Florida's defense is going to be even more scary in a few years. Them and USC will have 2 of the best defeses in the country next year.
weather at ND shouldnt really be a big deal anyway. The games are generally over by Thanksgiving - years where ND plays at SC , its generally the last game of the year so the season in South Bend is usually over by the 3rd week of November, not exactly arctic weather.
If he was intelligent enough to have ND on the radar, he would know they dont play games in January unless its a bowl game at a warm weather spot.
hmmmmmmmmm 4 years at the beach or 4 years in the snow?! You cannot blame a kid for going where it is warm! I have lived in Ohio my whole life and I still hate the weather!
Major Wright also made another curious comment as to why he selected Florida when he said that one of the considerations was that it (Florida) is very similar to my high school. Wright is a great kid like all of the Thomas Aquinas kids, and yes it is somewhat of a football factory, but Thomas Aquinas as a high school most likely provides a better education than the University of Florida. I wonder what Dan Wenger & Sam Young will think about Wright’s reasons for his commitment.
bull f....n s..t we lost too many people and its because our defense blew chunks...these piss ants can talk weather all they want thats crap...until we start playing like a real team we arn't going to get squat!!! They are going to ....gosh I can't even say the damned name because they kicked tosu's butt all over the field and they have the talent to repeat again and again....this makes me sick we better have some d next year that is for damned sure
Too bad when these guys get drafted by the Giants or Buffalo or New England or the Jets etc etc etc, they'll be too cold to catch a pass or not used to getting good footing in bad weather.
Actually, I was pretty surprised when I did more research into the kind of academics that Florida has. It is one of the strongest academic public schools. And it graduates ~80% of it's players, which is more than you can say for a lot of programs. Which is why I could understand why guys like Zo Edwards, trattou, and Wright would want to go there, as much as I hate to think about it...
right now, we have tons of snow up here in south bend. and while some people hate it, most people seem to be loving it. I bet those Florida kids never get to be in a north quad vs. south quad snowball fight. I've seen plenty of football players playing out in the snow having a great time. honestly, there's got to be a way to turn this in our favor. I know a beach is great, but snow can be fun too... besides, when/if a guy gets to the NFL, he's not gonna have much of a choice if he ends up in chicago or New England or Green Bay. I think it's easier to adjust to playing in heat than adjusting to play in the cold.
and on that thought, would you rather have summer camp in 100+ degree heat or 85-90 degree heat?
but yea, I understand, most people would rather go to a beach, especially if they grew up in the south.
Flea Flicker- I hate to get into the fuzzy world of NCAA graduation stats, but I think the 80% number that you are quoting is the Graduation Success Rate, or GSR, which is defined by the NCAA as "The GSR also allows institutions to subtract student-athletes who leave their institutions prior to graduation as long as they would have been academically eligible to compete had they remained." Sounds pretty funky to me. The latest posted NCAA stats for a four-class average of Football Student Athletes at Florida is 42%, for all Florida Student Athletes, it is 59%, for all Students it is 78%. For comparison, the same numbers at ND are Football Student Athletes 84%, all Student Athletes 89%, all Students 95%. Again NCAA grad numbers are crazy, and I may be misreading them, but I'm pretty sure that the GSR is not a reliable number to use for actual Graduation Rates. Anyway, I apologize for posting this under the Major Wright thread, it is more suitable as a whole other line of discussion, but please correct me if I am totally misreading the numbers.
I swear to God, I'd sooner retire to the South Bend area than anywhere in all of Florida.right now, we have tons of snow up here in south bend. and while some people hate it, most people seem to be loving it.
