Yeah, I mostly agree.

Although, like Oklahoma in 2004, I see that OSU-UF game as a joke. One team literally did not come to play.

Every team Florida played did better than OSU...all except Western Carolina...

The Bowl game did not prove anything, but I do agree OSU's schedule was NOT a strong one.

Yeah, at first I bagged on UF for playing Western Carolina, but then I read an argument that after the schedule they played, they deserved such a respite. With that in mind, Florida proved to be more battle-tested than OSU & thanks to USC they got an unexpected shot at the Luckeyes. And I'm not one to throw a lot of props around to an SEC school. That conference usually does a fine job of that on their own...usually ad nauseam. Most of those SEC schools should remember: Just b/c you PLAYED a seemingly tougher schedule, doesn't put any more of a shine on the fact that you LOST the games that make your schedule so tough. Look at Arkansas, for instance. Helluva tough schedule (Florida, USC, LSU, & Wisconsin) but who did they beat? Three teams out of 14 games that had winning records (Auburn, Tenn. & So. Carolina). Then the Gators & Bayou Bengals roll in their respective BCS games & all of the SEC also-rans come out of the woodwork touting those wins as proof positive that the SEC is the premier conference & that they were SEC wins. Uh...NO. They were proof positive that Florida & LSU are 2 of the best teams in the land, but conference affiliation doesn't mean you get to ride the coattails of the best teams...especially if you had a losing record or lost your bowl game.

I don't like it because they were DivI-AA. I think for a premier program its lame.

My point with WCarolina is that OSU got just BARELY more yards than WCarolina. Let's be honest, we know OSU is better than that. HOWEVER, what this bowl game proved was that Hunger beats Cockiness everyday.

UF played their hearts out...and OSU never showed up.

Looking back, if this was regular season I think UF would STILL HAVE WON...but it would have been a real game.

Why candy coat it? Weis doesn't have a big win. So what? He's still done a good job (not great) and is positioning nicely for the future. Why do you feel compelled to look back at the last 2 seasons through rose colored glasses?

Because I look for a POSITIVE in everything. I like to hang my "hat" on ND's wins. In the absence of an important win over a ranked opponent (at the end of the season), a BCS win, or a bowl win, I make due with patting ND on the back for every win over a ranked opponent (in-season ranking).

Your statistic discredits ND's wins because for a win to be a "quality" win, the team has to be ranked at the end of the season. I look at every win as a HUGE one and of those wins, some are more important than others because the team was ranked at the time.

I look for good in everything. I don't wait for the season to be over to say which wins were good ones....they're all good ones.

You don't have to tell me that. I agree. Every win is good.

I just wouldn't go around boasting about Weis' record versus ranked opponents because when you take a good look at it, it stinks. It's like boasting to your buddy about meeting a blond hair blue eyed girl with lots of money and neglecting to tell him she's 300 pounds and psycho!

By the way, I am not trying to discredit ND's wins or Weis' accomplishments. Just trying to be objective.

I'm cool with that. I totally understand where you're coming from and I agree. I by no means boast to anyone about the in-season wins versus ranked teams, but I like to look at it as an extra statistic that goes on throughout the year. I'm a huge baseball fan and they count every possible statistic...guess it's just a habit that I look at every one in football too and find some type of positive in all of them.

By the way, you wouldn't happen to know any blond-hair, blue-eyed, 300-lbs girls that are multi-millonaires, would you?...haha...j/k.

I'm with Solo, I don't like making up and fluffing up stats just to make things "LOOK" better, and I'm not a fan of others doing it either...

Weis is 1-5 against the top 25....Beating a team that can't finish in the top 25, isn't beating a top 25 team, if they were a top 25 team, they would have finished there....conversly beating a team outside the top 25 that finishes in the top 25....IS BEATING A top 25 team

Dude, it's not "making" up a statistic. It is a REAL statistic. They are different statistics. One is an in-season record against teams that were in the top 25. The other one is a post-season look at wins that were against a team that finished in the top 25.

The debate is on which one is more accurate. Both statistics are useful. One (the post-season stat) is the most useful, but cannot be used during the season at all, which is what makes the other (in-season stat) useful to gauge the team's progress.
