Saw this on NDN.

We know not why, but we can surely all speculate.

Ok, don't know if this is related, but I'm in the IT field, and have friends that work at the ND DIT and they have requested the media room be ready for Thursday, and requested a "select" group of local media to attend. My friend says this is unusual unless there is some big changes. I think I smell smoke, I just hope it's Minter's ass!

If you read on the recruiting board, they are saying they think either 2 or 3 coaches are gone. Minter is one of them!!! I hope Weis has replacements already to name on Thursday. The other thing is that Weis has not had his LSU post game press conf. I want to know what he has to say after he has reviewed the tape.

This will either be great news, or horrible news. I take Charlie for his word, I don't see how he could possibly go back on it like someone like Saban, so I'm not too worried that he is leaving or anything.

I think it has to be Minter being fired, there is no other logical explanation for it. God I hope that is what it is...

On II today, it says that we contacted the UCLA DC about a coaching position about a month ago, he declined, but something is definetly up . It would seem logical that since that story was released, the next step is that there needs to be an opening for such a coach to fill. We can only hope.

That would be sick if we got that guy. Their D is stout.

I think Tito Ortiz would be a great fit. Maybe Ken Shamrock to toughen those bitches up in the secondary.

Would they hold a press conference to announce the resignation/firing of an assistant coach?? The only other thing would be him leaving, which would amaze me.

Okay everyone, let's not get our hopes too high about [NAME REDACTED]'s dismissal. I just don't want to be crushed if it doesn't happen, nor do I want to jinx having [NAME REDACTED] canned.

i'm not sure they'd hold a press conference JUST to announce his dismissal. they would, however, hold a press conference to announce his replacement.

I was thinking this too. I'm afraid this could mean something that none of us thought would happen... I'm not going all doomsday, but I wasn't aware that they held press conferences like this to let go of coordinators...

We wouldn't know. It's been a long time since coordinators have been let go.

Even if they don't they hold conferences to announe hirings.

Sound argument...

Final thought

I think Nick Saban suffered from Steve Spurrier Syndrome. Winning in the NFL isn't as easy as a great college coach may think, so it's back to campus life where you can coast at 9-2 in an off year. For that reason, Pete Carroll and Charlie Weis should never leave the college game. They have better jobs right now at Southern Cal and Notre Dame, respectively, than what they can find in the NFL.

Michigan, Ohio State and Texas are also better head-coaching positions than any you'd find in the NFL. The Cowboys are about as marquee a franchise as there is in the NFL – and they've run through four coaches since winning their last Super Bowl in 1995. And a fifth coach could be on the way. Green Bay? Four since their last Super Bowl in 1996. New York Giants? Four since their last Super Bowl in 1990. Washington? Six since winning their last Super Bowl in 1991. Oakland? The Raiders are soon to be on their fourth coach since appearing in their last Super Bowl in 2002.

Stability wins in coaching. You can find it in college. You rarely find it in the NFL.

Well he would be announcing a restructuring of his staff. If some of his staff are moving on to other positions and he is getting new position coaches, I have no doubt he would hold a press conference. That's how he works.

I don't know what the press conf. will be about, but I hope it's a new coordinator. Watching ND play defense makes me sick to my stomach. I watch opposing DB's jam us at the line to throw off our timing. Then I watch our DB's play 10 yds off the receiver. I also watch opposing receivers running through 15 yd gaps in our defensive alignment. Anytime we play an elite team with a solid defense, we are toast. Our personnel has something to do with it, but those guys play hard and up to their abilities. There's nothing done to throw off the timing of opposing offenses. Nothing. I haven't posted much since that USC debacle. That LSU game is why most of the defensive recruits ran the other way. One game doesn't make a difference, but three games against elite opponents where your defense gives up an average of 44 points does. I wouldn't want to play for that defense either. The minute our defense shows improvement, that's when we will see elite defensive recruits putting on ND hats instead of everybody else. Until then, there be nothing but lamenting over one lost recruit after another. It will take time, but I think at this time there needs to be a change of guard at the DC position. I can't stomach receivers running wide open across the middle or the sideline anymore.
