I think DJ will get the starting nod next year. It makes sense. With an overhaul on our o-line, we are going to need a guy to escape pressure. I mean look what happend this year with an experienced o-line. BQ was running for his life in 3/4 of the games. Jones will bring back the ND qb of old who can run. In Jones case, he also can throw the football. You never know but I think it will come down to Clausen or Jones. It sure will be fun to watch to see who emerges.

Personally, I really think that there are bigger litmus tests for determining a starting quarterback than the experience of the offensive line.

I agree; I am glad that ND has this problem. Now if ND can have this problem on D, I will be ecstatic.

I think it'll be Sharpley on opening day, and he'll give way to Clausen by the end of the year. My next guess would be Jones on opening day.

Either way though, I think JC will start by season's end.

I agree, I think we'll see DJ start. We'll have a young team, and DJ seems to be the one that will definately provide a leadership role.

I recall hearing Weis in an interview last year talk about which QB he'd draft Young or Leinart, and Weis said without hesitation he'd take Young if his line was bad because of Young's mobility. When you have a bad or inexperienced line your best chance is to have a mobile guy IMO, just look at the Cowboys with Tony Romo this year.

What did that add to the conversation?

In this situation i can imagine that Charlie, having had a full year to assess the strength and potential of next year's line in practice, already has a solid idea as to how the offense will run next year. Unless he's looking to go with a triple option, the QB job is probably wide open. They can all toss the ball around. They are all well above average quarterbacks.

Frankly, the insinuation here that DD's alleged escapability is the reason he'll start is a bit insulting. He's a good quarterback, not just a good scrambler. If he wins the job it'll be due to more than being able to dodge unblocked DEs. It plays into the equation, but is def not the most sig factor. making reads, leadership, accuracy, then maybe escapability.

Charlie plays to win. The guy he feels gives us the best chance to do so will play.

I dont see how we can speculate about this anymore. Spring ball is months away and I imagine that none of us really know what Weis is planning or has already begun formulating.

I cant wait.

I like the idea of having DD setting up in the Shotgun and giving him a chance to get out of the pocket to create plays. If that's the case, I think we will see a lot of draws to Darius.

But since none of us have seen DD, or any other QB for that matter, recieve meaningful PT, it will be very hard to figure out who will start. I don't think we will stick to just one, or even 2 quarterbacks for the full year. I think we start out with either Frazier or Sharpley but once Charlie sees the pocket collapsing early and often, he implements a change that will play to the team's strengths, which will be running the ball next year.

I have also heard from my inside sources that a kid from California will be enrolling early this upcoming semester, and from what i've heard, he is the shiz-nit. His name escapes me right now, though. Has anyone heard of who I am talking about?

I'm sick of everyone thinking DD will start. Why does veryone think this? Most of the people thinking he will start never mention a guy by the name of Zach Frazer. Why? When he was a higher ranked recruit with a stronger arm.

Thanks for the responses guys. Why even bother posting Irishlegend? I agree that we will have no idea who Charlie prefers until after spring ball. I am so excited. I agree again with Mizzou, we seem to think alike. Of coarse I think Charlie would prefer the normal drop back passer but once he sees all of the pressure the QB is getting, he'll make the switch to DJ. I think he will design his offense around Jones and the running game. The running game will be a much bigger part of our offense as we'll need to control the clock more. Aldridge will get 10-15 carries a game with D-Walk getting 15-20. Hopefully AA can step up and earn carries. Only time will tell....

Answer: Because most fans nowadays have a fetish for mobile quarterbacks.

Honestly, I really think its that simple. Now, ironically, I don't think Frazer will start either to begin the year, I think it'll be Sharpley. But between Frazer and Jones, I probly would lean toward Jones, not so much b/c he's mobile but more b/c Frazer seems SO immobile. I've said this before, Frazer just reminds me too much of Drew Bledsoe, and behind that offensive line next year I don't think that's gonna work. I don't think ND necessarily needs a QB as mobile as Jones, but I don't know if they can win w/ one as immobile as Frazer.

I think Sharpley will start as well, but Jones/Frazer/Clausen will see the field. I think Clausen could eventually start, but he has alot to learn in a short period of time, especially Weis's playbible.

I think Clausen will start by season's end, regardless of who starts at the beginning of the year. I think enrolling in January will help a lot w/ learning the playbook and getting ready for the upcoming year.
