Well, it's all true. Not much to add, a well written article. Shame it doesn't matter.

The reader comments are the best. Look at the tOSU responses. They don't even make sense. Troy Smith is better than BQ because Brady lost to USC 4 times and Troy "lit up" ND in the Fiesta Bowl? Last time I checked, Troy Smith never played USC and BQ doesn't play defense. Good job Bucknuts.

how about the comment from this idiot:

You couldn't possibly have seen any OSU or ND football games this year. I don't care about the statistics. If Brady Quinn and Troy Smith were on the same college team, Quinn would never take a snap.

And all those post by that Tim guy. Wow, dude is a damn fool with his reasoning.

WOW. Why are they whining when Smith is going to win it? Perhaps they realize that Brady is more deserving too.

i like one OSU poster that said "i can't believe you are comparing smith with the likes of weinke, weurfel, and ward".

i can't believe it either. that is such an honor for the future "Greater Columbus Enterprise Salesman of the Year". Charlie Ward should be furious.

This article is great. My hater buddy can only say, "He makes some good points, but, but, but, but I go back to the Michigan game and but, but, but Quinn also has good talent around him with 2 first rounders and but, but, but you could make the same argument for Colt McCoy about stats and but, but, but....I still think Troy Smith is better. When asked why, he just shrugs.

Their NFL careers will answer the question who is the better QB. My money is on Quinn.

OSU's opponents, not counting their games against the Buckeyes, were 73–59, while Notre Dame's were 75–48

That's a win % of .553 to .610

God bless factual information.

Are we all in agreement that Quinn deserves it more than Smith? I'm not. Quinn is a special player, he moved well ahead of zibby as my favorite ND player this year. But I really don't think he deserves it more than Smith (i will go and smack my fingers with a ruler for writing this). But I do feel that Quinn is second by a large margin over 3rd though.

My biggest gripe is there are hard numbers to argue on behalf of Quinn and not so for Troy. A lot of generalities and only focusing on the UM head to head and NOT the PSU or MSU head to heads. The argument that Troy is better because OSU is 12-0 versus 10-2, when that really means nothing when comparing individual performance. And of course the tremendous throw against PSU when we ignore the rest of the game where his performance was hardly Heisman worthy. People that think Troy is better don't really have any solid facts to support it. They simply say,"I don't care about stats, opponent records or who has surrounding him, Smith is better."

Darren McFadden.

I really think it depends on how you define the Heisman, just as the article says. Where I differ from the writer is, he seems to think its some kind of sin to define it as "The best player on the best team" as it has become. I look at it as a rather ambigous award to begin with, so it really is all public perception how you define who deserves it.

Now, the one thing I do have a problem w/ is how that public perception has been controlled and manipulated by a certain 4-letter network. But still, its up to the voters.

That's a good point, I agree. But I think Troy has played distinguishably better than Brady in big games. I think he played bThat is the criteria I use.. Like I said I love BQ but Troy is a big game player that has produced wins in bigger situations.

But in the end doesn't Brady really win, since he'll be 1 or 2 in the draft and Troy might not go in the first day? So good for Troy and even better for Brady.

True, Brady will win in the end. But imagine if Brady had an OSU level defense and breakaway speed rb's. He'd be a big game quarterback then.

I think he would for sure. The kid has all the intangibles to be a big gamer and a successful NFL QB for years to come. But I think it would be a slight injustice for Quinn to get it over Troy. I would be tickled pink if it happened though.

Brady has done as much as was humanly possible with what he's been given. This ND team has done well because they have had better coaching with Charlie. I believe if Brady had the offensive line from OSU--there wouldn't be a discussion about Troy Smith being a better quarterback. He will go first in the draft and at the end of the day there is no question he deserves that.

To those who say the Heisman is losing credibiltiy I just look at 2 of the more recent winners of the trophy; Eric Crouch and Jason White.
