Rams' Player Charged In Fight At St. Louis Nightclub

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis Rams rookie tight end Dominique Byrd was charged Monday with allegedly hitting a bar patron in the face with a drinking glass.
Byrd was charged with second- and third-degree assault and armed criminal action. His bond was set at $25,000, said chief warrant officer Jeannette Graviss with the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's office.
Byrd's lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, said his client had posted bail and will plead not guilty.
"We're comfortable an investigation will reveal that the allegations are unwarranted," he said.
Coach Scott Linehan said he discussed the matter with Byrd, a third-round pick who has played in three games and has no receptions, before a team meeting on Monday. He said Byrd's status on the team is unchanged and that he expected him at practice on Wednesday.
"It's a legal matter right now and we can't comment on a legal matter until it's resolved," Linehan said. "When it's resolved we'll comment on it."
A 30-year-old man was treated for cuts to the face after allegedly being struck by Byrd, police spokeswoman Schron Jackson said. Byrd was cut on his right hand but declined treatment, she said.
The 22-year-old Byrd played for Southern California last season. He was one of two tight ends drafted in April, with second-round pick Joe Klopfenstein winning the starting job, and he also fell behind undrafted Aaron Walker on the depth chart.
