I was just wondering if anybody knew any info about some of our seniors that might petition for an extra year of eligibility. I know Carlson, Laws, and Zibby all can petition. Do you guys think these guys are going to stay or go. Just was wondering what everybody thought, I would like to see those guys back, it would give us some depth.

I would say Carlson should go, his stock has got to be pretty high after the season he's had granted he recovers from the injury fine. Zibby should go too if he's a projected 1st rounder.

I hope TT comes back at RB next year. Everyone else should come back if invited.

You said invited, do they have to get invited to petition for another year?

I like to follow the draft and from what I hear zibby is not a 1st rounder, maybe not even a second rounder.

I may not be correct on this but I think the head coach decides weather or not I guy can come back for a fifth year. For instance a walk on WR who never sees the field in 4 years, then Weis has the option to invite him back for a fifth year or wish the young man the best of luck in the business world. That's how I've always understood that. I could be wrong though, maybe anyone who want to come back can petition.

We could use Zibby comming back but he was getting beat so many times and the sloppy one armed tackles its hard to want him to come back.

Good point, and I agree with you and whatever scout dosen't think Zibby's a first rounder. Mel Kiper had him in his top 20 or something though, so that's why I said that.

I guess as a special teamer??? Only way I can see the NFL touting him that highly is as a PR/ backup safety. I love Zibby, but I don't think he's a first round safety pick, but I'd love to see him prove me wrong because I don't know shit really. Good luck to Zibby if he goes.

I really hope Carlson comes back but I doubt he will, I saw a mock draft that had him going in the first round. But I will continue to hope.

Word about Carlson. Good news is that's 2 years in a row we've had a TE that highly touted. TE U for a long time

I read somewhere the Carlson was going to stay, but I wouldn't be surprised if Weis talks him out of staying, especially if he's a 1st round pick.
TT, I imagine, is coming back. No way he'll play in the NFL at RB if he doesn't start there or at LB with only a year's worth of experience.

Why do you think Weis would talk him out of staying? He truly is a great man if he does that, get whats better for the kid and not just worrying about himself.

That's what he did with Fasano last year....told him that TE's typically won't rise much more with another year, so best to go in the 2006 draft.

Yeah, but Fasano couldn't hang on to the ball for shit so that probably made it easier.

Fasano wasn't as good a receiver as Carlson but he was definately a more complete TE. He was one of the few guys that actually fit the "nasty" mold. I think because of the injury Carlson will be back. It's so strange that we're all big Zibby fans (and I am) but we all realize our D could benefit from some fresh blood at safety. He really hasn't played that well this year. I'm sure some of the CB's would like a centerfielder out there with them.

I pray that Thomas comes back with the sole purpose of getting 7 real carries a game next year while having young guys fill in at LB.

Laws is the biggest recruiting get that Charlie has left to convince. Problem is its a weak draft year for DT and it's not like Laws is going to have an easier time getting noticed on a less talented D line next year. He might have to go for his own sake.

Laws would be huge to have back next year and I think their is an OK chance he will come back. He could probably go from a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick this year to a 1st or early second next year. Thats how charlie bases his recommendations to the players. He has said that their affect on the team does not play a factor in his recommendation.

I think Carlson is 50/50 .I think he could be a first or second round pick this year so that may have an affect, but when you see him in his interviews he just appears to love his time at ND and may want one more year. We would love to have him back as he would probably be the only real impressive weapon (with experience) returing on the offensive side of the ball (sorry Darius), but if he leaves we'll have so much talent at that position, that it won't be a huge drop off.

I definitely hope Thomas comes back, and I'd love for him to keep getting carries, but I don't see it happening (him getting carries that is). We have Walker, Aldridge, whom everyone seems to love, Prince, and now Allen. I don't see Thomas getting into the mix too much. Although it would be great if he did. I still think he should come back even if just to play LB though and for his leadership.

The leadership part is what we're going to need the most next year. Talent is one thing, but being in the trenches for a few years will mean a lot to the young guys on the team. I certainly hope TT comes back for that aspect alone. Carlson will be effective in his role no matter what should he decide to return.

Todd.

i still think Thomas is our best running back. I understand its hard to say considering his limited action but i really do believe it. And, let's just say a couple of the current ND defensive players, guys who've been playing significantly for years now, told me to my face last year that he's the best on the team.
