Freshman changing positions

Coach Weis was asked if he envisioned any freshman changing positions in the off season and he replied:

"I can see a couple, not many, but I can see a couple tweaks in the positions. Not at liberty to talk about them now but I have some thoughts of my own. But I haven't had time to evaluate that more concretely and then talk about it with the staff yet. But I could see a couple tweaks, yes."

Any guesses?

If Allen really does come to South Bend maybe see Munir split out wide even though he lacks ideal hight. Maybe take advantage of some of that speed against some linebackers.

If DT recruiting doesn't deliver results this year I think we can pretty much bet on an offensive lineman moving to defense. Eric Olsen maybe?

I remember reading that Minter wanted Prince at DB when he signed so now that we have AA and possibly Hughes coming in i can see Prince moving over. I can see Schmidt moving as well.

Instead of this year's freshman o-line men being converted, I would look for either Nwankwo and/or Nuss being converted. With Gray coming in, how about McNeil at safety?

Just speculation, that is true. But, I think defenses do need at least one safety who can cover like a corner. That's part of the problem with Z and the Duke.

That will be Bruton. The guy can fly.

Here are my possibilities:
Luke Schmidt to LB, Mo Richardson back to LB, demetrius jones to WR, gallup or west to CB?

I think moving one of the OL do DT isn't a bad idea. But one thing i think should be kept in mind is that moving the current freshman may depend on who commits this year. i think players would only be switched based on necessity, which makes me think that the WRs will stay WRs and the RBs will stay RBs (because with gray coming in and lambert returning, i don't see the advantage to moving anyone else to DB).

I don't see DJ playing anything other than QB next year. He came to ND as a QB, and he's got the intentions of staying at the position. I could see him maybe switching Junior or Senior year, but only if he's dead last on the depth chart, which I highly doubt.

mcneil at FS i like. He seems taller than darrin - just looks like a FS to me.

and no way Weis is talking about Jones. Why wouldnt he have him in the race for the qb spot. He could eventually move but as of now Weis wouldnt be taking him out of the race before it begins.

One who has gotten raves all year that numbers may permit his moving is Eric Olsen. Have heard he is a beast on both sides of the ball but due to lack of numbers on offense specifically the line he is more needed there.

I'm pretty sure Walls is taller. He's listed at 6'1" and McNeil at 6'. Walls looks taller to me too.

Walls is taller. I'm pretty sure they'll both stay at CB.

i dont see olsen going anywhere, we're thin on OLine and they like him there. I don't see stewart moving either. Prince to D is a possibility but there's no real immediate need there either. If you wanted to move a CB to safety i'd think it'd be Lambert, leaving room for Ambrose, Walls and McNeil. i don't see that happening either.

They're may be more sublte moves too, like Mo Rich to LB. What is Kallen Wade going to do when all the DE's we hope to sign come in?

Eric Olsen is a player. Need to find a way to get him on the field ASAP.

Put on some weight and play better than the guys coming in, be a back up, or switch positions. He played safety early on in high school. I don't see him moving all the way to there, but he's a really athletic guy in general.

I think we only get Gary Gray as a corner in this class. So that will lead to Munir Prince moving to corner and redshirting(5th year) next year. Since we got Armando Allen we can move Prince. I think we also move Schmidt to TE. I think he runs like carlson from watching video on him. It's my opinion that we get Hughes and then still have a shot at Best and McKnight. This will make the move of schmidt to TE that much easier. Anyway just some changes I would like to see.
