I would never play for him, but I love the guy sometimes. Especially when he is yelling at the media. This incident is a non-incident. If this was the Southeast Missouri St coach, there would be no story.

i agree but you have to admit the time he was on the court chokeing the kid was way out of line .the only thing i dont like is how they tryed to spin it by saying he was only trying to tell the kid to keep his head up. you can see what he is saying and its not a shot of confidance he is yelling at the kid .

I played sports all through high school and some small time college basketball and that is absolutely nothing compared to what myself or teammates went through. It is only because it is knight that is was mentioned. Absolutely not worth the media attention. Go Irish!!!

We do NOT need more Bob Knights.

However... this particular incident sounds like much ado about nothing. Not even the player is complaining. The media is clearly making a bigger deal out of this just so they have another story to play with.

For Bob Knight, this was actually pretty tame.

Sure we do. ND has one- don't see any of us complaining, do you? Or you can have a Pete Carroll, who wins, sure, and is a hell of a coach- but recruits and harbors criminals, and sends criminals to the NFL.

Bob Knight is fine.

I didn't bother me at all. The media just wants a story from an easy target like Knight. My basketball coaches growing up used to throw us around and scream in our faces. I actually enjoyed it because it made me a more fearless player. That's all Knight was trying to do. I guess I like the old school kind of coaching style.

The guy is a jerk and has serious inferiority issues. He was either hugged too much or not enough when he was a kid.

I'll say this for him, he never took in the dirtbags. You went to class, you graduated. He took a Texas Tech program mired in off the floor mediocrity and cleaned house.

We need more like him in that kind of way, but his personality and the way he handles himself I can do without. And that goes well beyond on the court issues. My second cousin was a writer in West Lafayette and Indianapolis. There are some stories about Knight that would shock you.

Knight isn't there to make friends of writer hacks (vultures who make a living off of reporting non-news about basketball games and such) or make friend of rich alumni or administrative types, or even his own players. He's there to produce successful young men. And win games. And he does.

Bring on all the horror stories you like about how he's treated sportswriters. Here's another horror story- there are thousands of men in this country who make a living writing non-news articles about fucking SPORTS while actual people with talent or people who do meaningful work can't make ends meet. THAT is a horror story. Not that some hack got his feelings hurt by an outspoken basketball coach with emotional issues.

Got nothing to do with writers or this treatment of them. Interesting you assume that.

Dig deeper.

Like I said, he wins and graduates players so therefore he gets a pass for being a completely belligerent jerk? Plenty of coaches do what he does and do it without putting their hands on people or acting like complete assbags. John Wooden won games, championships and plenty of guys got degrees under his watch.

I agree that the whole story isn't a big deal. Already forgotten, maybe thanks to Bo Schembechler's death and the most hyped 81 point spectacle of all time. The guy brought it on himself, right or wrong. I'm not a fan by any means, but this was blown out of proportion because of who did it.

If you're dad hasn't done that to you at some point in your life than something is wrong. The kid should look the man in the face and acknowlege that he is speaking to him. Show some respect especially when Knights gets that face going. That would scare the shit out of most people. Maybe thats why he didn't want to look up. He didn't want to wet his pants.
