You forgot that lil ole' game that SAVED our BCS hopes vs. Stanford.

Dude, you're right. I can't believe I forgot that one. I was physically sick watching that game until the last drive. Good call. Now watch, I bet I know someone who won't be able to stop themselves from replying with a "well, if he played better during the game, he wouldn't need to have a comeback."

He had as much talent around him last year as he had his first two years. He had a starting NFL running back on the team his freshman year.

I'm not comparing him to Brad Smith. Read more carefully. I'm saying that Brad Smith and Jay Cutler were "once in a generation" talents at their respective schools, as far as QB talent goes. Both of those schools wasted those guys. For ND, especially with Weis at the helm, we'll miss Brady, but there shouldn't be a dropoff for more than a year, if that.

As for being a product of the system or not, how can you say he isn't? We haven't seen him in the NFL yet. I think he'll be fine there, but you can't say for sure. Stovall seems to have been a product of the system. He wasn't good before Weis showed up, he had his year, got drafted high, and is now a non-factor for Tampa. As for Brady, we'll see. I think he has all the tools, but I don't think it's the same with Weis QBs as with Tedford QBs. Tedford has a system that makes QBs look good- Weis makes QBs good. So he's the product of a coach, just as Tom Brady was.

As for off the field, I've heard from people who've met him that he's full of himself and a dick.

lol

Hey man, I tell you what, I'll put you on the cover of every magazine in America, label you a "Golden Boy" at the nations premeir football college. Have people talking about what big biceps you have. Then you come back to me and tell me that your ego wouldn't be inflated a bit.

As far as being a bit of a dick, I'll ask my sister this weekend, she's a senior at ND and I'm sure has an opinion of her own. But there is really no need to toss out derogatory comments, especially when it has nothing to do with you, just, "a friend got this impression, so I'm going to spread it over message boards."

What year? 1992 Reggie Brooks finished fifth to Gino Toretta. That was the final season Bettis played.

I don't recall Bettis even placing in a vote for the Heisman.

I might be old and senile, but I could swear Jerome and Rocket were Heisman finalists for the same year. Can anyone verify this or am I hallucinating?

Jerome was well respected, but never got heisman talk, for ND, it was all Reggie Brooks.

Bettis would have been like a freshman when rocket graduated, right?[/

I must apologize...it must be my selective memory because I could have sworn that Bettis and Rocket had at least one year together. I'm weak on the stats...so you could be right.

He's a great QB, but I can't ignore that he was bad for two years until Weis showed up, at which point he got good, and then levelled off- making me think it's part talent, sure, but mostly Weis's coaching. He's not some Jay Cutler/Brad Smith "once in a generation at this school" kind of QB talent. He was a mediocre QB (at best) who got the break of a lifetime, IMO, and made the most of it. I expect Clausen (or DJ, or Frazer, or Sharpley) to pick things almost right up where Quinn left them. By his second season starting, whoever the starter is should be putting up numbers just like Brady put up last year.

As for Brady as a person, I've heard good and bad.

You are stupid as hell. If I'm banned, then I'll just get banned. Weis is a good coach, but he's not the one on the field making the plays. Brady was talented his first two years. It's kind of hard to complete 65% of your passes when you're getting drilled every other play. How many times did he get absolutely clocked from his blindside? The line play was atrocious those first two years. That's probably one reason why he was just "mediocre". Then he was playing as a "true freshmen".

As for off the field, I've heard from people who've met him that he's full of himself and a dick.

This sort of thing actually gets me riled up. I KNOW Brady Quinn. We're not best buds, but he lived down the hall from me, went to a Christian club on campus several times where I led music, and still says hello to me by name when we pass on campus. A dick? No way. Not ever. That's just wrong. People sometimes place things like that on other people because they EXPECT him to be that way, but that's not Brady.

Case in point, I worked with Young Life as an undergraduate for four years. YL is a outreach program that caters to local high schools. We decided one time to try to have a ND football themed club. We got Josh Schmidt (walk-on FB, a very good friend of mine), Derek Curry and Brady to all come to our club. And not just for community service (see, tOSU, Miami), they came free of obligation, just as a favor to me and a help to these kids, and played the games, even pulling of a hilarious improv comedy sketch with us. Then each spoke at the end, sharing with these HS kids they had just met that night.

Brady is a warm, centered, and down-to-earth person. Anyone who says otherwise simply has not actually MET him, talked with him, or spent any amount of time with him.

i've read a lot of clotho's recent posts. Seems to me that he just spouts off at the mouth. I will not take anything he says seriously. I met a guy named David from Notre Dame in the Atlanta Airport last December. He was a member of the swim team and had just graduated. He knew Brady and quite a few other football players. He was realistic... he said some players are what you would expect.... rowdy, raunchy, womanizers.... what have you. But he spoke so highly of Brady's personality. He said he was very down-to-earth and just fun to be around. He said that if he didn't follow football, he would've thought that Brady was just a really likeable guy.

Now that I've said that.... I remember sitting down with my dad for the Pitt game last year. I said, "Man, I don't know if I can take another year of watching Brady get blasted and throw more interceptions than touchdowns." So, I've happily eaten my words. Brady has been the face of the Notre Dame revival. He is a team leader that works hard for his due. I can only say great things about Quinn, and yeah, I'm really going to miss watching him play. It truly has been a delight.

Thanks for that. I'd consider that a much more accurate description of the guy's character than... "As for his character, I'ver heard good and bad".

Clotho must be one of those "Head-butting" types, that thinks someone is a shady character if they aren't just like him.

I'm gonna miss them all... Rhema, Brady, Zibby, Jeff, Ndukwe, Landri, Victor, Richardson, Bob Morton, even the guys who didn't play much... the list goes on and on. and then consider the guys who might leave even with a year left (including Zibby), and it makes it even sadder.

The point is, he isn't. People might assume that because, well, people like to assume things. But talking to him and being on a first name basis without being on the football team, I would never ever say, "he is full of himself." He's more like Bobby Morton (someone I know a lot better) than anyone else. Confident? Yes. Full of himself, absolutely not. Brady's sincere faith keeps him more grounded than a lot of people might think.

LOL, that would be Dave Moisan I bet, we were in a band together. The lead singer of our band was roommates with LB Derek Curry. Ah, those were the days.

With Brady leading the team you know you have a chance every Saturday to win no matter how great the odds. He is one of a kind and it has been a pleasure to watch him play. So enjoy today my friends as he leads the Irish one more time in the house that Rock built.

I didn't say he was the product of a system I said he was the product of a coach. Which means it'll likely stick, which is why I'd draft him first and not worry about an Aaron Rodgers or Akili Smith or Andre Ware or Ryan Leaf problem.

What is wrong with Aaron Rodgers? Lets not call a guy a failure before he even gets to play. Is it his fault that he is a backup to a NFL legend?
