I've been adament that if Michigan beats OSU, a one loss ND should get the title shot. But, let's flip that and say OSU beat Michigan in a close one, ND wins out and the SEC teams each lose another one (along with Rutgers). I would have a hard time, considering head to head, seeing ND getting the shot over Michigan, setting up a title game re-match with OSU and Michigan.

Now, suppose USC beats Cal and UCLA, thus winning the PAC 10. ND would finish with one loss and be an attractive BCS possibility.

Having lost their Big 10 rep, and their second team as well, the Rose Bowl would get first choice among eligible BCS teams. A one loss ND team might be hard to pass up for them. That would set up a title game and a Rose Bowl featuring re-matches of a couple season ending games.

Just an interesting possible scenario.

If the USC/ND game is a classic one, and neither get into the championship game, that's a very real scenario, though I never really thought about it before. For some reason, I think people would be more OK with a rematch between two teams, as long as it isn't for the national title.

I don't see ND going to the Rose Bowl if they win out yet don't get picked for the title game. I think the loser of the OSU/Mich game slides into the Rose Bowl as more of a traditional Big Ten vs. Pac-10 match-up. One loss for either is not going to eliminate them from the BCS bowls, might as well count them both in. And I am pretty sure the Sugar Bowl gets first pick as far as at-large bids go and I don't see any bowl committee passing on a BCS eligible ND team, ND fans travel and draw ratings, its like throwing away money to choose someone else. I think if we see a re-match of any kind its going to be Mich vs ND for the title, or OSU vs Michigan, it all depends on how the games play out.

There should really be a playoff. And I say this knowing full well that in a playoff, this particular ND team would probably finish 8th, at best, whereas with the BCS system, they could very well finish second.

But all this stuff just sucks. It's no fun, it doesn't pick a real champion. It's all just politics and meaningless.
