Running up the score time!?

Don't you guys think it's time we score as many points as possible from here on out? I know Charlie doesn't normally run the score up out of respect for the opponent, but I think we really need to for the remainder of the season. I know we will probably have a battle with USC, but if the opportunity presents itself don't you think we should put it on their ass? It will only help our chances to get to the NC game(along with other help).

What are your thoughts?

A 30 or 40 point win over Army will mean nothing more at this point than a 20 point win. Beating USC by any score, even only 1 point, is the key. As is a little bit of help from some other teams.

LSU beating Arkansas+
Arkansas (or FSU) beating Florida+
WVU beating Rutgers+
Michigan beating Ohio St+
ND beating Army USC= a title shot.

If that stuff happens, our scores matter little. I would hope the team wins comfortably this weekend. But I'd hope it be with class against an opponent that deserves full respect.

If they don't cover, it will be "umimpressive".

I'd get the starters out with a nice lead in the second half. No sense losing someone else.

Don't forget though, this is Senior Day. I think the seniors could be in a little later than normal this Saturday, even w/ a nice lead, and understandably so.

I don't expect dirty play from Army, but a fluke injury could occur.

I don't think that there is ever a legitimate excuse to run-up the score. It's disrespect to your opponent (Mack Brown and Bobby Petrino: are you reading this?), whether it be Army or USC or Michigan or OSU. The things that I am most proud of in Irish football: clean program with scholar athletes and classy behavior on/off field (which includes proper disciplinary action to those who break rules... unlike the Urban Meyer's and Donna Shalala's of this world).

I would love to see Brady win the Heisman as well, but I agree w/ Charlie... I'd much rather see him leave the game safe and have the most successful future possible in the NFL.

And I agree with scooper: our entire National Championship entrance rests solely on the USC game, but I don't think that the other games, if the outcome is not as he listed, will hurt the Irish that much.

You're correct. Those outcomes don't have to be as I mapped them out. But it wouldn't hurt removing all doubt.

Charlie's not gonna run up the score, ESPECIALLY on Army. He's said countless times the amount of respect he has for the service acadamies and that he will not run up the score on them for "style points"....they wont score any more than 42 TOPS

As long as the win is comfortable, running up the score on Army would not at all affect the national title race. He won't pull them in and ask them not to score, but he won't run it up for the sake of running it up, either. And when the lead is comfortable, I suspect we'll see a lot of guys getting into the game.

I went a little overboard there, but I still think we need to go balls out. Take chances and go after SC, especially on D. Now Im not saying we should blitz all the time, because our corners cant handle that, but we need to attack at all times. On offense we need to look deep early, try to hit a big play and start the game off on a good note, instead of a shitty note like the Michigan game. We need to hit them fast and get in there head early. Shut down the crowd early and send them packing by the fourth quarter. This is it fellas we have a shot.

I think margin of victory does effect the polls to a certain degree. What about the voters that don't see the game and only look at the final score, believe me it happens. The fact is ND will win by plenty this weekend and there will be no need to run up the score. Weis won't do that and has too much respect for the service academies.

I was really meaning that if there was a chance to run it up on USC, I think we should. Hell, they are ranked 3rd. If we hammer them it would help with the NC bid.
