There is no fight of our lifetime, or if there is, it's not this, it's something more philosophical. How many terror attacks were there in the US before 9/11, when there was relatively low focus on these things, and relatively lax security, and Afghanistan was still run by the Taliban? How many deaths? 9/11 was unfortunate and shocking and made for good copy but it was

a) a freak thing, a fluke; literally, a one in a million shot

b) not that big a deal in actual, concrete terms, in and of itself- ie loss of life, destruction of property; this is as compared with normal wars and battles

Terrorism is just the latest political crutch. It's more a PR construction than a legitimate threat. It's a threat like communism was a threat.

It a twisted and deranged way this actually makes sense. I kinda feel the same way about the kkk and the religous right? All four, communism, islamic fascism, kkk and religious right have an ideological/superior belief system. Either you're with them or against them. I'm sort of with ya dude, though you are likely to take some flak over this.

You don't think it was the fire fighters and police responding to 911 calls and their own common sense? I don't really know the logistics of the response, but my guess is that Giuliani had nothing to do with it.

You know what would have been really decisive? If Giuliani had said "okay, there are people on the top of those buildings looking for help... I know it'll be risky, but let's send a few choppers up there to see whether they can't rescue some of them.

Here are instances of 'decisiveness' I can think of from that day:

1. Terrorists taking over planes and crashing them into buildings
2. Passengers taking over Flight 93
3. Firefighters and police officers rushing into the buildings
4. ...people choosing to jump from the towers

None of these involves Giuliani. Any decision that Giuliani made on that day pales in comparison to the four examples from above.

You need to re-read my post. As I explained, Giuliani, as mayor, was the decider. Among his many decisions were his picks to occupy the posts of New York City government. The brave men and women who reported to the scene could only make their decisions because Giuliani had decided they were the people for the jobs. Therefore, everytime the brave public servants on the scene made a decision, Giuliani was really the person making the decisions. Beyond that, when Giuliani arrived and was able to see, as we all did, that the WTC attacks were "not that big a deal in actual, concrete terms, in and of itself", as Clotho pointed out, he could have pulled all emergency personnel out. Any one of us would have hemmed and hawed before deciding it was time to move on, but Giuliani immediately decided emergency teams should stay without hesitation.

His position on the Global War on Terrorism. He is one of the few people - Lieberman is one of the others- that realize that this is the fight of our lifetime. While I'm not 100% satisfied in the way the war is being fought, it is a fight that must be one. I want guys like Santorum in Senate to counter Durbin, Boxer, Biden, et al.

So true, and this is why we need Rick Santorum back for another term. Right now we're faced with an opposition that wants to destroy everything we hold sacred: our freedom, our economy, our savior, our military, our wholesome domestic institutions like marriage. And then there's the terrorists.

I like to refer to the war on terror and gay marriage as the fights of our lifetime 1a and 1b.

Thank you Neville Chamberlain.

Off the top of my head - Acts of Islam inspired terrorism on US interests
1st WTC bombing
Khobar Towers
Kenya and Tanzania simultaneous US Embassy bombings
USS Cole
WTC/Pentagon/Flight 93

Outside US

2004 Madrid Train bombing (just prior to an election with desired effect)
2005 London Train bombing

and there are many more but it's not worth my time trying to convince you because you can't be convinced. If you don't believe that the USSR was a threat to our existence than there is no convincing that radical Islam is threat. But it must be nice to live in your kumbaya utopia

Some people have f'd up priorities.

If you want to stop divorce and the decline of marriage...the answer is simple: outlaw divorce.

Gay marriage is enemy #1 (or 1b) for people who would rather fondle boys.

It comes down to this... When you run the government so poorly for so long (6 years) you need to deflect attention to issues that really do nothing positively or negatively for the people.

Banning gay marriage and fighting steroids in baseball WILL NOT:
1) fight terrorism
2) put food on the table for children in poverty
3) create jobs
4) build infrastructure
5) lower taxes
6) improve defense
7) improve health
8) improve education
9) promote peace
10) improve trade

It IS highly effective at getting attention from voters though. And those who vote for the people who run on banning gay marriage have stunningly misaligned priorities.

I have always wondered, who gives a shit who someone marries? How does that affect you in your life. Gay people have just as much right to be miserable as the rest of us in marriage.;

The Republicans are trying to scare everybody into keeping them in office. The notion that we are fighting the terrorists in Iraq so we don't have to fight them here is ridiculous. Unfortunately, I think the terrorists are here. We need to do a better job of protecting our borders to keep them out. They thought Iraq was going to be easy and boost their popularity. They were wrong and they got to go. Santorum is one of the prime players in this misguided policy no matter how far he tries to distance himself from Bush.

No, what's ridiculous is to claim that we wouldn't be fighting terrorists on American soil right now had we not taken the fight to them in Iraq. Al-Qaeda documents have clearly indicated that the next step was to be broad-scale attacks on American cities. No one disputes this now as the intelligence has established it beyond a doubt. Furthermore, it's been our domestic monitoring program that has kept us informed about all the terrorists within the US. As noted in another post, it's been so successful that we've been able to track Americans who are even considering giving aid and/or comfort to the enemy. Let's not forget that so many times, our enemies come from within. Like it or not, many American citizens aren't willing participants in this war of our lifetime, and those are the people we must watch just as closely as the known terrorists. Rick Santorum gets this and that's why we need him back in the Senate.

If Hillary wins in '08, that is a sure sign that the end of the world is coming. Might as well jump on the fast track to the country going into the shitter. That woman doesn't have any idea what she stands for, she tells people only what they want to hear, and the shit she does believe in is way too far left for my taste. F that!! Anybody but Hillary!!! Her husband did enough to sell this country out, we don't need another Clinton to finish the job.

No the way Bush is handling this war is the problem we have. What politician don't waffle on issue. They all have go by the way the polls are going. So less not be naive when it come's to politics. You can hate Hillary that's your choice. But dont let it be on her chaging position.

If I don't vote for how a person stands on a position, then what should I base my vote on?

Its one thing to do that, but its another to answer a question like this, "are you for or against abortion?", Answer "Yes". Its also easy for her to sit back and with all her other far left buddies and throw stones about how badly some things have gone in Iraq, and offer ZERO new ideas, just say, "we'll do it better, and not say how. Voting for Partial Birth Abortions, is in favor of an underage girl getting an abortion, without parental notification and/or authorization. Those are just some of the things that I know where she stands, yeah she voted in favor of the Iraq War. I have no probs with a person changing her/his mind, but she mostly provides lip service and I don't need that shit, I want a person who I know where they stand. Where does she stand on the NSA program, money tracking program, Iran, Homeland Security, Border Security?

I don't agree with Bush on some things, but at least I know he has principles and where he stands on the issues that are important to me. Every war has had big mistakes, no war ever, ever goes according to plan. You can't compare this war to the first gulf war, they were two totally different missions. Even Lincoln was called all the things that Bush is being called now back when he was president. But look at the way he looked at now.

We don't expect our politicians to take a stand on issues anymore is that it? They can just flip/flop when the want and don't hold them accountable, we just let them off the hook with, oh I change my mind now because it didn't happen the way I thought it would, or it isn't a view held by the majority anymore.

While I am certainly no fan of hers and have zero intention of voting for her...she has been very consistent in her statements and her voting. They match 100%. In fact, they are almost identical to her husband's views. Which are basically centrist views.

This should not be a big surprise given that she did not become a Democrat until she was an adult.

The reason Hillary will not win is because she does not support the views of about half of the Left.
