Sam Young is already starting but why not start Darrin Walls and Rashon McNeil at the corners and even Toryan Smith at one of the linebacker spots.

are you serious? no way. Walls is good, but not that good. He's been beaten more than a few times. Wooden and Richardson are solid corners with a lot more experience than him. And McNeil has hardly even been on the field in the secondary.

And with Smith, he still has a long way to go too.

They'll start with time, but no way they should start now.

Why is it that people seem so ready to write off this season/or the current starters? As far as I'm concerned ND is still in the NC hunt. They had a bad game, Michigan had a good one, and those two things combined are never good. If ND has a game like they're capable of, I think they will probably win comfortably tomorrow. Then all the talking heads will praise Weis and the Irish, etc. Let's not sell the starters short.

I agree 100%... people are losing their heads over one bad game. Not to mention replacing returning senior starters... and I believe Richardson is a 3 year starter at that. You would think that would give them a slight edge over two freshmen.

In 1977 ND won the National Championship after losing to unranked Mississippi early in the season. WTF is this giving up and put in the freshmen BS?

Richardson's a 2 year starter (Ellick and Jackson/Campbell started most of the games in 04), but I agree. He and Wooden are both doing pretty well. Sure, there have been lapses, but to replace them would be worse.

The freshmen's time will come. They will be great players. Just not quite yet.

To my knowledge, no team that was blown out in the regular season has ever won a NC. I haven't done the research to back that up, but I can't recall any off the top of my head. Thus far, 3 times in the "BCS era" a team has been blown out and played in the title game. But all 3 teams lost in that title game.

We really aren't a NC calber team. We don't play NC caliber defense and we don't run the ball like a champion. We can still have an excellent season and there is absolutely no reason to give up on the starters. But if you are still expecting a title run, your heart is more than likely going to be shattered again this season (probably more than once).

Actually, if we want to get into particulars, Richardson started more games (4) in 2004 than Campbell (3) but that's neither here nor there. People are going to have to face facts that we will have to wait a couple years for a NC caliber team but that doesn't mean we're not still a good team with a chance at a 1-2 loss season. Either way that equals 10 wins which is a good step.

I'm not talking about starting the frosh over wooden or richardson. I'm talking about replacing lambert, that's all. He is horrible and i'd rather see a freshman in there cuz walls cant do any worse than him.

As far as starters go, you gotta play the guys that give you the best chance to win each and every week. Lambert is starting because he gives us a better shot to win than the guys behind him. When that changes, I'm confident Weis and staff will make the change.

It seems people here did not fully appreciate the meaning of, not only the Michigan game last week, but also the Ohio State game at the end of last season. This is not a NC caliber football team. Last year they lost by 14 to OSU and honestly they were overachieving by doing so. The Michigan game wasn't "a bad day." It was getting exposed. If ND wants to contend for national titles the next few years, when they actually have the personnel to do so, they'd do well to get as many talented young players PT as they possibly can. The Lamberts and Woodens and Mitchell Thomas's of the world aren't going to have anything to do with an Irish national title.
