What video game are you playing?

The video game market is a fickle bitch. About 10 years ago I bought a Cheetahmen 2 for the NES for $100. It was a rare, sealed game, but it's notorious for being bugged because the developer never fully tested it before releasing the game. You can't actually finish the game. My buddy, who was also a collector at the time, thought I was stupid for paying that price. Now Cheetahmen 2 (The original, not reproductions) will go for at least 4 times that price, and sometimes in the thousands. I've also got a Caltron 6 in 1 game that my buddy picked up for me at a flea market for $5, that one goes for thousands on Ebay.

On the other hand, there are other games that were once worth serious cash and have since dwindled to nothing. Games like Chrono Trigger and Marvel vs. Capcom II used to fetch pretty good money at the turn of the millennium, and then years later they were re-released and it killed the market. Chrono Trigger on SNES has somewhat gone back up in value, but it's taken some time.

As far as Virtual Boy, who knows if it's value will go up or down. On the plus side, so many of them have turned to garbage over the years, if you have a working one you stand a chance at the value going up if it remains in working condition. On the downside, it was so unpopular you're unlikely to see a lot of people looking for one for their collections unless they absolutely must have it. You typically see values shoot up when collectors start creating a high demand for an item that's in short supply, like a Nintendo World Championship NES cart. On the other hand, you don't see too many game systems on their own that have shot up in value. Typically only rare 2nd editions, like the NES top loader, have garnered value over time.

This is why i wanted it. It was a complete failure. Somewhere down the line they will start to disappear, and someone is going to want the worst Nintendo system ever made, just because it was, "THE WORST NINTENDO SYSTEM EVER MADE" LOL.

I don't understand why Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow aren't available for cell phone use. Dat nostalgia. I'd play the hell out of them.

Pokemon was my generation's "childhood" game. I was 7 when the original Red and Blue versions came out. Senior year of high school (10 years later), all of my friends bought Gameboys and Pokemon Red and Blue on ebay and we played them constantly in class. It would be the middle of English class or History and we'd all be playing Pokemon behind our backpacks. I got detention on prom night because our "dean of students" (i.e. my football coach) tried to confiscate my game and I declined.

This happened at my school, almost on the exact same timeline haha. After football ended, the outgoing seniors started hanging out in the parking lot and waiting for spring football practices to start so we could watch the guys that were taking over the team. One day, someone got a gameboy and pokemon out of their car to pass the time between last bell and the start of practice. The next day, everyone had a gameboy.

We would get a few link-cables out and have battles in the parking lot every Friday until graduation after that. We set rules and everything so that everyone was on an even playing field haha.

No one could beat me because I was the only one that had googled how to legitimately catch a Mew... Still not sure if I'm proud or ashamed.

I was talking to someone about this last weekend over beers. If Nintendo/Apple teamed up and put out an original Blue/Red/Yellow Pokemon game app, I would buy no questions asked. It would be a lock as a money maker.

I might even go so far as to do Gold/Silver, though I think it was overkill after the initial 150 Pokemon.

I haven't got far into FFVIII but IX is my favorite so far. I've been looking at getting the re-releases on playstation of IV, V, and VI. VII was ruined for me when I went to a friend's house back on the day and he was playing where Aeris dies. My favorite RPG has to be The Legend of Dragoon.

I'm currently on AC3 and can't wait to be done with it. I thought about not finishing it after playing it for a couple days.

IX was one of the better Playstation Final Fantasies because it was more like the original games as far as progression and combat. It didn't have some crazy plot either, at least compared to some of the more recent ones.

IV and VI are most certainly worth playing through, especially VI. IV has always been my favorite game all time, but VI usually gets more praise.

V is okay, it uses a job system which isn't for everyone. It didn't get a US release until it was packaged as a re-release on Playstation. If you have to skip one of the SNES games, this would be the one to skip though.

Even though Aeris's death was ruined for you in VII, it's worth playing through anyway imo. It certainly was one of those "I am your father" Star Wars moments as far as the Final Fantasy franchise goes. It's a great game on it's own though.

VIII is a POS, imo. The draw system is such a pain in the ass and tiresome. The main character is a whiny emo, and apparently is disinterested in women. The final boss is kind of just thrown together in the final act. The only thing I liked about the game was the weapon progression/crafting. Do yourself a favor and stay away, this game is when the franchise started going downhill.

Lolz. Wii U is pretty bad isnt it. Vitrual boy was a monstrosity. Have you ever tried to wear one of those things? I was a little kid when that thing came out. It damn near weighed my head to the ground it was so f'n bulky. If those things would have been around longer, Nintendo would have probably started to get sued for neck problems due to prolonged use.

I'm with you. I remember getting the Silver game for Christmas along with a guide... but the extra 100 pokemon to try and get were too overwhelming for me so I quit halfway through the game (at the time, I guess I didn't think of it in the context that I had already gotten familiar with 150).

If you were in grade school in 1998 and didn't collect Pokemon cards or play the gameboy game, you were essentially forfeiting your rights to a fruitful social life.

Haha, I love the Andry Video Game Nerd's review of the console and showing how to wear one. He even tries Duct taping it to his head. When he gets to Waterworld he really starts getting pissed off:

 I'm with you. Pokemon was before my time, as was Power Rangers. I remember being in high school and Pokemon was getting popular. I kept thinking "Glad I didn't grow up in this era."

I grew up in this golden era of kid pop culture. Right as I was getting bored with my Power Rangers obsession, Pokemon came along and saved me from hours of unimportant things like reading, doing chores, doing homework and playing outside.

Voltron & He-Man > Power Rangers & Pokemon

Actually my uncle gave me a Voltron VHS when I was little, and then gifted me his old Voltron toy. It was like a power rangers megazord, but better.

EDIT: Transformers no doubt, and Pogs were dumb. I was a sucker for the Pokemon fad, but I never understood Pogs.

Wasn't there some Power Rangers knock-off in the 90s that starred Joey Lawrence's little brother? Whoa!

I'm pretty sure there was a season of Power Rangers where he was one of them. One of the feature-length movies too.

Be honest... who else is on ebay right now looking for pogs?

I am now...and theres not much to say it looks like.

Looks like theres a lot of uncompleted sales, or failed to make minimum bid. Theres a set of 20 Power Ranger POGs that couldn't sell for $10 lol

Theres a set of 42 POGs that sold for $3.99. Ouch, and some of those were supposed to be rare
