This thread began with a simple question - Was CW "who cares" appropriate? Wonderful topic that could spawn great discussion about the effect a coaches statement can have. Some how it devolved into a thread about race. Not sure why. Recently threads have been zooming off topic. Please keep threads on topic. I am guilty of replying to off topic when I should be ignore them. I won't do that anymore.

This is a primarily a forum for the discussion of ND football. When a thread starts about ND football it should stay about ND football. There is a sub forum - Mondo Politco - that was created for political/social topics. If you feel the need to take a football thread into the racial/social realm please restrain yourself or start a new thread in Mondo.

I say all of this with defernce to Svo. He created this place and ultimately sets the rules. I don't want to overstep my bounds but too many threads are going off into places that they were never intended to go.

Anyone recall how Paterno reacted to Penn State's joining the Big Ten? They were independent for a while, too. Just curious. Maybe he was against the move?

In a week, I'm sure more will come out on all of this. Should be interesting. Non-football related garbage usually is.

Wow, this thread really got off topic. This is a football forum guys. We play Georgia Tech in one week and we're on here discussing racial issues. Bummer!! That's almost worse than my wife telling me her parents want to take us out to eat.........Saturday night. I don't freaking think so. Saturday afternoon maybe, but definitely not Saturday night. Solo, man please. Who cares. That's all that needs to be said. I loved it.

"Not sure why."

Maybe because one of the major contributors here made a post calling Paterno a "greasy dago." Your suggestion is essentially that it's all right to post a racial slur like that in a football thread, but if someone wants to call the poster out on it, he has to take it to a much less popular forum. It's tantamount to a newspaper running an incorrect story as a front page headline, and then later retracting it in a tiny notice at the bottom corner of page 7.

Here's a thought - you don't want a football thread to become about race, don't make racial slurs in the course of football discussion. Paterno sucks, but calling him a "greasy dago" invites racial discussion, just as much as if someone called Reggie Ball the n-word during a Ga Tech thread.

If this site is comfortable with arguably its most prominent poster nonchalantly posting racial slurs, and everyone turning a blind eye to that, then that's fine. I don't think that's the sort of atmosphere this place should go for, but that's just me. I certainly don't think it reflects well on Notre Dame.
