Mark Cuban - still awesome

Fined a quarter of a mil for yelling, "F*** you! F*** you! Your league is rigged!" at David Stern after - well, after another rigged game.

I love this guy, and only hope he buys the Cubs as has been rumored. And he's right. The NBA is a farce. It's not an honest competition. Keep fighting the good fight, Mark.

He's obnoxious. He's belligerent. He's spiteful. He's what I want a team owner to be.

He has money hungry caricatures but, I do believe he really is all for the teams success, and not just selling tickets.

Bull. Any fan of any team that wouldnt want this guy as an owner of that team is an idiot or a liar. And in this instance as in most, he's right, however obnoxious. The NBA is a fixed league, much of the time, and especially in the playoffs. "Then why don't the stars always advance?" Because it's not outright fixed. The refs do what they can, though, to advance a Lebron, a Kobe, or to make sure that Shaq and Wade advance past no-name Chicago. It's the least entertaining of the four major sports leagues in large part due to the officiating. Shaq has fouled on every offensive possession of his career. Call it. Iverson has carried the ball every timr upcourt. Call it. But they don't because those two are stars. So what if they can't play the game within the the rules? No other sport's officials pick and choose which rules to enforce and when to do it. All other officials do their best to call any infraction they see, and don't just wait for an unpopular player to mess up.

It really is a horrible league. After Hakeem retired I lost what interest I had. I just hope Cuban wins this title so he can buy the Cubs and spend time there.

On the Dan Patrick show, David Stern just said that Mark Cuban didn't say that to him. Apparently, he was fined for going on the court and cursing at the officials after the game.

I bet he would have been fined a million bucks if he told that to the commissioner. And he still might if the Mavs get some more bad calls that result in another loss.

i'm from dallas....love the mavs, always have. i LOVE cuban and for a couple reasons. as stated before he's insane and all about his franchise. he wants to win more than the players (some times). but what i love the most is that he doesnt just bitch and moan and end up getting fined. he has matched every dollar he's been fined as the mavs owner and donated that sum to charity. i think it shows his true character. he's just like us. what if you could OWN nd football. you'd be just like him...

i know stern's would be priceless bc cuban said he'd accept the trophy naked. and knowing cuban....you never know what he's willing to do. i was working on a radio show in high school when he stopped by (1080am the ticket) and bet someone $100,000 to change they're name to "dallas mavericks" permanently and get the logo tattoed on their arm. i think he'll strip down. GO MAVS!!!!

I gues that person didn't change their name? That's quite tempting for a lot of people I know. You can still go by your first name as people know you, but legally, you'd have to sign, Dallas Mavericks.

You'd be Mr. Mavericks!

I thought it was funny, but I read his blog...he says he never said anything. In fact, he was ripping the Miami Herald for having no facts.

They claimed that the Police made him take down a Go Mavs banner from his boat.

Problem is: he has no boat.

I'll agree that he's a good owner in the sense that he'll do whatever it takes to produce a winner. Aside from that I can't stand the guy, he annoys the hell out of me, and is a ridicously sore loser.

How can anyone take this guy seriously anymore, he complains about the officiating after every single game. So whenever he complains about officiating I just tune the guy out like most do now.

It would be very interesting if he buys the Cubs.

He's not a sore loser. A fan who constantly blames the ref is a sore loser. A vocal and visible owner who does it? He's hoping that what he says gets heard, and has a tangible (positive) impact for his team. In other leagues (except maybe baseball, in littler ways) this sort of thing wouldn't work, but the NBA, as I said, is rigged. If the Mavs win tonight, and the refs are kind to them, Cuban will have succeeded. Nothing to do with being a sore loser, just tactical.

I don't think you know what tactical means. Hint: it doesn't involve tact.

Beyond that I didn't understand your post.

think about how many people don't know what tactical means. obviously a joke...i'm not a retard.

pro cuban = tactical

anti cuban = tactless

tact...tactical = comparable visually. just loosening it up. and try avoiding the intellectual throne you were on.

If this ass clown of a human being shows up in Chicago, I'm moving. Money can't buy you class, pal. I'll at least give him credit for standing on the court last night and applauding the Heat as they celebrated their win. Judging from his demeanor last night, I think he is already regretting his little temper tantrum the other night after Game 5 and tried to get some dignity back last night. His applauding the Heat was a good start.

He's an OWNER. Why is he constantly the story when it comes to his team? I was indifferent about Cuban up until this series. The biggest stage in professional basketball and he made a total jerk of himself. This guy never really bothered me at all up until the other night. Avery Johnson might be a young, inexperienced coach but Cuban has a lot to learn as an owner. Maybe during his next NBA Finals he'll carry himself a bit better.

And his attitude permeates down to his team. They're nothing but a bunch of crybabies. Dirk attacked an exercise bike after Game 5, the most defense he's played all year I might add. He did punt the ball into the stands, flashing what is I'm sure some brilliant German soccer skill. With his height, he should consider goalie.

Perhaps if the Mavericks stopped shooting jumpers and driving to the basket, they'd get to shoot more free throws. Their own coach said last night they "fell in love with the jump shot." Didn't a questionable call get them past San Antonio, a series that went 7 games after they were up 3-1? If the NBA is rigged, let's go back to Spurs-Mavericks 2005 and start there.

Shaquille O'Neal wins with Wade, Kobe wins nothing. Life is good, L.A. still sucks. There is a lot of good about Mark Cuban, but his bad typically gets into the news more. I can't say if that's right or wrong, but that's what it is.

I will say I am glad that the Heat won last night. For no other reason but that Cuban did not get a ring. His head would have swelled so much. He already thinks he is bigger then life and a champ ring would have made him even worse. I do like his passion for his team and the fact that he will do as much as he can to help his team be at the top but just think he is too much at times.

Him going to the Cubs would be such a Catch22 for me. Would love to see some real management that would help the Cubs compete more the once a decade but not sure if selling your soul is the right move. I think it would be about as bad as letting Steinbrenner take over!

Then good riddance to you. The only difference between Mark Cuban and Charlie Weis is in the "class act" act Charlie puts out there for the media to try to stop whatever ND hate he can. At heart he and Cuban are the exact same type of guy; namely, winners, and the same type of winners. If Weis were an NBA owner, he do exactly as Cuban does, just without all the talk in the press and a lot of the showman stuff. He'd probably still do most of the yelling at officials. Similarly, if Cuban were ND's head football coach (if he were a football guy) he would run things similarly to how Charlie has. They're the same basic guy once you get beyond superficial stuff. And I love having Charlie running my favorite football program, and any Cub fan with a brain would love to have Cuban running the Cubs.

Oh and citing Dirk's attacking the exercise bike and the team whining as Cuban's attitude "permeating the team" is nonsense. Miami was losing games, cussing each other out, taking cheap shots, and generally imploding against 7th seeded Chicago in the first round. If not for the refs, they might have left early. Whose attitude was permeating Miami? Losing makes people complain about calls and take out frustrations on things. It's human nature. How many ND fans bitched about the grass, or the spot against SC, or about the non-call on the safety against MSU, or about the Zbikowski fumble recovery in the Fiesta Bowl? A lot. "Oh, but Charlie didn't complain. He took the high road." He did - publically. And as I said, that's the only difference between he and Cuban, is the persona. Cuban doesn't care about what people think of him. Charlie doesn't have that luxury. He's got to recruit kids and families to his school, and court the media, who vote on his team.

So far the 2005 MLB playoffs were fixed, the Super Bowl was fixed and now the NBA Finals. Have sports become professional wrestling?

Weis and Cuban...interesting analogy. College football coach to NBA owner. I think I get your point. I'd compare Mark Cuban to Mike Holmgren before Charlie Weis. Both seem to feel they can't be beaten unless the fix is in.

That team melted in the face of pressure in close games. You know who controlled their huddles during timeouts? Del Harris, that's who. As much as I like Avery Johnson, he often looked like a deer in headlights during the playoffs. Again, go back to San Antonio in the Western Semifinals. A couple of very BIG calls went Dallas' way and they won that series after almost letting it slip away. So where do the conspiracy theories begin, there or Miami?

After Game 3, there was a lot of crying out of the Dallas camp. Play the damn game and shut up. They acted like complete morons and they buckled. They should have SWEPT this team, but they blew Game 3 and shit their pants the rest of the way. This is just a small portion as to why I don't follow the NBA as closely as I used to. Some of these guys act like total bozos. You want beef? How about the Bad Boy Pistons and the Pat Riley Knicks, the way those guys played? Thug ball.

Two double digit leads last night and they still lost. How the referees could manage to account for a 14 point deficit puzzles me. Don't know if anyone noticed that the PA announcer had to kindly ask fans not to throw objects in the direction of the playing floor, either. They did a very good job of making Stern and the League out to be villains. Worked like a charm. Cuban is as genius as he is obnoxious, make no mistake. That was a fired up crowd last night.

If Notre Dame had played an iota of defense in those three games, they would have won those games. If anyone should bitch about anything, it should be receivers galloping wide open all over the field against those three teams. Officiating had nothing to do with those losses and anyone that thinks so needs to focus on the defensive mishaps that took place during those 180 minutes of football.

Again, Cuban is probably wishing he hadn't had such a knee jerk reaction to Game 5. Made him look very foolish. Lost in all of this was good basketball, a great Dallas team that will be loaded for years to come, Dwayne Wade and how good of an owner and community citizen Cuban really is.

i agree with you jigga. i think the mavs got screwed on a couple of calls. ESPECIALLY last night when wade elbowed dirk in the chest and a foul was called on dirk even though he didn't even move toward or block wade. but that's the way the game is played. the mavs got calls like that. you just have to know how to use momentum. make the refs call fouls by being agressive. otherwise you end up on your heels near the end, even with the lead, just like brey-ball. why must my basketball teams be doomed!!!!?

The Mavericks are young, inexperienced and could not handle pressure...especially in close games. No one on that team had ever gotten that far in their lives. I saw a lot of questionable calls last night that went against both teams. I also saw Miami dominate the paint and Dallas not make many jump shots. I believe they missed ten in a row at one point?

Miami had O'Neal, Payton and Mourning. Plus Pat Riley. Oh, Wade too. He's pretty good.

Dallas is going to stick this in their pipe and smoke it all summer. Then they'll come back in 06-07 and kill people. Chalk it up to a learning experience from their owner all the way down to the 12th man. Cuban will get his trophy sooner than later.

I agree with you on that blown call. Dirk was just standing there, Wade shoved his elbow into Dirk, fully extended his arm, and then Dirk gets called for a foul. I wonder how much Cuban's rant about the refs after game 5 affected the officials for game 6?

dead on. they'll be around for a while. hopefully they dump van horn and go after another stackhouse-esk player who can rebound, drive, and take a jump shot. they just need to wrap up loose ends on contracts this summer and they'll be back with a title this time next year. hopefully the suns dont get too much better with stoudemire coming back.....eep.

Too many for me to be talking about an attention craving billionaire of an NBA team. If I owned the Bulls, I'd probably act the same way. Personally, I'd use to my wealth to make Jessica Biel my wife instead of buying an NBA team. Why not both, though, right?

This is the worst part of the year for sports. Baseball. Nothing but baseball.

What are you talking about, the World Cup is on?!

OK, I'm probably the only one on these boards watching it. Except for maybe that one forum member we have who is in Ireland.

I've mentioned before that my fiancee played soccer at BGSU. Thus, I have had to sit through some soccer games recently on Saturdays.

My main business suppliers are in Germany, so I rarely get any kind of answers to my questions when I fax or call them. And they expect me to work hours on Saturdays in Autumn? Ha.

I talked to one of my guys today. He woke up at 3 AM to watch the Dallas game. They love Dirk over there. I found a few of his comments rather funny....

"That Dwayne Wade is bloody marvelous."
