Marcus Gilchrist told Steve Hare of Irish Illustrated the following:

"I know I'm going to pick up an offer from Notre Dame," he said. "My coach told me that I have to call Coach Weis because he is going to offer me. I don't know much about Notre Dame education-wise, but I know they have always been good in football. I'm excited about that."

Have always been good in football? Doesn't know much about ND education wise?
I think he has those two reversed.

Another cornerback listed at 5-11. I like that this staff goes after taller corners. I also like the presence in the Southern United States. I like his GPA and speed.

4 KR and 3 PR for TD, plus 11 INT?

I'd say sign him up. Can't wait to see video.

Jiggs, How many times last year did we hear this type of comment from a recruit? It points up painfully the damage done to the ND program under Davie and Ty. We fell off the screen with a lot of these guys. We never hear these comments when they are referring to USC, FSU, or Michigan. They seem to know everything about these schools but the onlything a lot of them know about ND is "they have a good football tradition". It will take a lot of hard work from Weis and Staff to bring the program back. Thankfully we have the right guy in the right place who loves the school.

Just a few extraneous comments.

There is a whole generation of kids that grew up in the 1990s as elementary kids that were spoon fed Florida State, Florida, Ohio State, Michigan, etc.

What Weis and Ianello can change is making a Notre Dame offer mean more than just status and a bargaining chip for a kid to use against the school he really wants to go to.

Going to ND to play ball can be something more than just tradition again under Weis. Kids will want to come here to contend and win, plus get the education they all seem to desire so much.

reminds me of a story....WAY back in '92, i was a junior in high school and i went with my brother, father and a couple buddies to the blue and gold game at ND. the day before the game, we spent some time walking around campus, checking things out, and at one point, we happened across what must have been a junior day at the time - a bunch of kids in varsity jackets heading into a large conference hall. since we were wearing our varsity jackets as well, we followed them in. inside, there was a luncheon, etc., and lou holtz, along with some rick mirer and a few others, were talking to the group. the point of the story is this....

i distinctly remember Lou standing at the podium and telling these kids that being recruited by notre dame was something different than what they would experience with other schools. he said something to the effect of this:

"Go home and tell your friends and family that you're getting letters from Michigan, or Purdue, or a whoever else may be recruiting you. They'll likely nod their heads and say "that's nice." After today, go home and tell those same family and friends that the University of Notre Dame wants you to play football for them. Then watch the surprise on their face when they say "you must be one heck of a football player." That's because whether you like Notre Dame football or hate it, people respect what it means to be recruited by Notre Dame."

While Lou was saying this, heads were nodding all around the room - that was the effect he had on kids when they visited ND. It was also the same aura that was missing during the Davie and Willingham years, and like jiggs pointed out, a generation of kids weren't exposed to the Notre Dame tradition that a lot of us grew up on. After his first year at the helm, Weis appears to be turning that trend around.
