I see that Chris Galippo committed to USC today and the Buckeyes got their first commit. We need early commitments from Josh Oglesby, Jimmy Clausen and Ben Martin to get this 2007 party started.

This will not be easy. ND will go head to head for the best of the best with USC, Ohio State and others. They had quite a few early verbals before the 2005 season even started. I think they have their sights set on some very high profile juniors right now, which they may have to wait for.

I'd go chasing after defensive tackles like there is no tomorrow. Marc Tyler at running back will be crucial with Walker and Thomas soon to depart. Having Tyler and Aldridge together would be awesome, especially with Quinn gone in a year.

A nice running game and a strong defense will be nice cushioning for a new QB.

Dont forget the wide receiver from DC, BENN. I also read an article the other day about a big time DT Andre JONES (Texas), who stated that he would most likely commit to who ever offers him first. He explained that he loved both ND and Texas, and would go to either if offered. Also said that he wanted to commit early because he didnt want to be bothered during his senior year. Wish I could remember where I read it, but I do know this kid is ranked in Juniors Top 100 by Rivals.

Grades or talent must be a problem with Jones. I can't believe that he is a Rivals 100 player from Texas and Mac Brown hasn't offered him.

I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if Clausen commited to ND early. He's gonna have the entire world after him this summer, I have a feeling that even though he might lean toward ND now, he'll still take all his visits and weigh his options before declaring. Not saying he'll wait 'til signing day or anything, but I'd be surprised if he declared even as early as Frazer did last year.

Oglesby would be great. Could you imagine him and Young at the tackles with Carufel and Stewart at Guard. Oh yeah, Wenger at center. On paper that looks like a pretty impressive line. Would love to get Claussen because I think he will bring some other big recruits with him.

Clausen would be key and an incredible recruit to land, but if ND underachieves on recruiting defense, we're in big trouble. I'd take losing Clausen and dominating the defensive recruiting battle any day, but we can't lose him to SC. I'd die watching this kid beat us for 4 years. He is that good.

No doubt we need to load up on defese, and I think this year the team took a step in the right direction. I am really excited about Mcneil and Walls and hope they can play up to expectations. Next year they definately need to recruit some D-Line, but I have faith in the coaches.

I think either Ben Martin or Josh Oglesby will be the first to commit. I remember about a month ago that Mike Farrel said that ND had a silent commit for the class of 2007 and that he would probably come out soon after signing day. Since he said it wasnt Clausen and the only other offers were to Oglesby and Martin at the time, I'm pretty confident that it will be one of them.

I personally hope its Martin, dont get me wrong I would love to have Oglesby, but if I could only have one of the two it would be Martin. Pass rushers of his caliber are not a dime a dozen. Any big man can be coached well to block but it takes incredible athletic ability for big men to be a fierce pass-rusher. Since i believe a strong defense needs to start up front what better way then to get one of the best(if not best) DE in the country.

I hope you're right about Martin, he is a freak. As much as I can't wait for next season I am even more excited about recruiting this time around, based on what Charlie did this year. Clausen will definately make his decision before his senior year and then BENN would follow, considering JC picks ND. But I guess only time will tell and I'm pumped.

Martin and Oglesby are very highly sought after. I don't think Martin will decide soon and if he does, I think he'll go to Ohio State.

My guess is Andre Jones if he gets an offer.

I'm assuming you're referring to ND going into Ohio and stealing recruits from the Buckeyes. That's a very good point. That state is loaded with talent and real close to South Bend.

By the way, does anyone know which states are the best for college football recruits? I know California, Texas and Florida lead the way, but who is #4, #5, etc.?

Depending on the year, Ohio is usually top 5.

I would rank them as follows:

1. Florida
2. Texas
3. California
4. Georgia
5. Ohio

Include Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Mississippi, Illinois and Alabama in no order to round out the top ten.
