Anyone take note of Wrecked Tech last night??? Losing by the LARGEST MARGIN IN THEIR HISTORY OF BOWLS (dating back to 1929 and 34 bowls) to an average Utah team (even Oregon could have beaten) 38-10.....

If Chan Gailey can do this with a month to prepare, imagine what he'll do with 9 months!

I am not to shocked by this score..however if I am correct Tech will still have some great athletes returning next year that could kill our secondary if we aren't careful.

That is true. They have a Shark type receiver (C. Johnson) who can give the secondary problems. Hopefully Mr. Walls will have something to say about that.

For some reason, I saw a lot of GT this year. Johnson is much like the rest of their team....at times brilliant, at times they dissappear. Last night they surprised me in not showing up. But it's the same old story for teams that feel dissed by their bowl selection. GT and their fans felt they were Peach Bowl material. They were dissapointed and they played like it.

I guess GT must feel like they're dissed a lot recently...

Gailey’s record, over his four seasons at Tech:

2002 7-6 Georgia Tech Silicon Valley Classic
2003 7-6 Georgia Tech Humanitarian Bowl (W)
2004 7-5 Georgia Tech Champs Sports Bowl (W)
2005 7-5 Georgia Tech Emerald Bowl

EDSBS is a great blog, isn't it?

I think they felt more deserving this year as their wins included a couple bigger names, including an nice win over Miami. It just makes some of their losses a bit more questionable.

'Tis. ALMOST as good as BGS. I can see them arguing if they were say 9-2 or even 8-3, with a win over Miami, but 7-4.....Ls to NC State and UVa doomed them, thus why they played last night and the others are playing tonight or tomorrow.

Please man. Walls is nowhere near Calvin Johnson's level. Since I live in ACC country, I've seen Calvin Johnson play numerous times. Johnson is "Shark" with a little more speed and athleticism. You really think a freshmen will shut him down? He's close to unstoppable this year. If they had a better quarterback (Reggie Ball is too short and too erratic), his numbers would be a whole lot better. If Reggie Ball is their quarterback next year, we will beat them soundly. I think we'll beat them soundly regardless. Johnson will make a few plays though.

Calvin Johnson against either Wooden or Richardson right now, today as we sit here would be a complete nightmare.

Now in September of 2006, different story perhaps. But make no mistake...he's as good as they come. He, Jarrett and Samardzija are the cream of next year's crop.

Yep. Pretty much sums it up.

On Johnson, Reggie Ball sucks. I have seen few starting QB's with less accuracy. It's almost a shame to waste a WR that good.

Johnson is great, But he has 5 foot 3 inch (joke)Reggie Ball throwing him the ball, If you hrow a safety down on Johnson, he's done! Look at what Georgia and Utah did! Watching Ball can be painful, this is the QB that in the 2004 game vs Georgia spiked the ball on third down to stop the clock, then threw the ball out of bounds to avoid the sack on 4th down!

I agree that Samardzija is in there among the best... but the guy might not even be the best on our team.

Rhema McKnight could prove himself next year much the way Samardzija has this year. It's not that I'm saying Samardzija is any less good than what you perceived, it's that I think McKnight is going to finally have his breakout season next year in this system (he looked good against Michigan, too... I think that could have been the beginning of his long-awaited breakout season.. until he got injured).

All I'm saying is that ND's WR corps might be better next year, even with the loss of Stovall.

It really makes you wonder whether the season would have turned out differently had McKnight been around.. who knows, maybe he would have had a big play against Michigan State or USC... or if not, then maybe his presence would be felt against Ohio State. He's easily our most athletic receiver.

He is our most athletic receiver but its tought to replace a tall lanky guy like Stovall who you could and was done numerous times just throw the ball up and make a play. I think overall however the WR will be better next fall with the addition of the freshman and the bigger roles of Hord and Grimes and the return of McKnight. Johnson I believe is the best WR in the country hands down...he along with Jarret are the class of WR in the country no disrespect to Jeff but those two are just hands down the two best in the country.

I agree, KMac. But Samardzija is getting a lot of good reports from NFL people in the know. If he is setting the table for a 2006 Quinn Heisman run, he's going to get even more attention.

Knee injuries to wide receivers aren't band aid injuries. It is very hard to predict what kind of year McKnight will have in 2006. Samardzija will carry the load. Someone, perhaps McKnight, will need to step up and provide another option. Especially if Fasano goes pro.
